I am just going to go right on and say the I am NOT “last-week’s lipstick” grandma, for those who wondered.
. We were there, but we stay as away from the cameras as humanly possible.
I thought Ashley was probably the most articulate little pageant girl we have seen on this show. You could understand every word she said, she could also form complete sentences. I thought she was very well spoken and such a pretty little thing! Not in the fake tan, flipper sort of way. I too saw the tension between her mom and grandma money bags, but mom Christie was a pleasant change from Coach Cooch and the rest of the typical pageant moms we have seen here. She wouldn’t trash talk and was teaching her daughter to be a classy little girl as evidenced by Ashley getting up and walking away when Cooch tried to engage her in bashing Gracie. Good job with the mothering Christie. Other could take some pointers from you and your little girl.
Can’t wait for the recap Crabby! They are giving you quite a bit to work with on this one!!
Well done as always DC, can’t wait for the full recap. I most definitely noticed TENSION between Grandma and Ashley’s Mom… I was busy couting Granny’s chins but I did notice that Ashley’s Mom looked like she might punch Grandma at the nail salon….Jersie?? Cute kid, but that name, OMG, poor kid. I laughed my ass off at the teenage coach who learned from watching T & T episodes..yup, that’ll guarantee her grand supreme with anchovies-NOT. Maybe they should hire Eden Wood..
The White Trash Mafia, ha ha love it. I had hoped for fists to fly, maybe next time. I hope Coach Cooch is not going to be a regular on T & T, but definitely a regular on Gasm Boards!!
And just because I got the most awesome captcha EVER (braaaains!!) I will add, without further detail, that my granddaughter makes a solitary appearance, ever so briefly. Gracie’s mom was pretty awful. I can get being pissed at Nikki for trash-talking Gracie (really? You have to slam on a small child? In public? Do that HERE or on the infamous Voy boards! Have you learned nothing?) but she really could have toned it down a notch too. Also, the fact that she used the “word” “youngin’” not once, but twice, made my night.
As bad as Gracie’s mom acted, I still think Nikki’s the worse of the two – I mean really, trash-talking to another little girl that an eight year old is ugly? WTF? I’d love to see Faithlyn take on Alaska and watch Nikki trash talk her. I can’t stand either of the two girls, but in that moment I’d probably be rooting for Lori and Alaska.
Just when I thought I’d seen it all on T&T! What a mess
I wonder if FAFF’lyn met Nikki in a hotel lobby masterbating with a magazine? She signed her name on the dotted line, the lights went out and Nikki showed her how to grind? We all know she’ll show ya no mercy but she’ll sho-nuff, sho-nuff show ya how to grind..
Also, I have added “use the word young’in at work” to my bucket list
I wish, in addition to eyebrow help, that women would stop wearing unfortunate bras. The white trash mafia needed to lock and load those girls.
As I said on the last recap, the “socking it to the judges” bit? Really? Trashy, trashy. Also, keep doing the “socking it” move and your L5 S1 will blow out a nice herniated disc by the time Faith-lynn is 25,oy!
What a surprise: I really liked all three kids this episode! Jersie’s deep purple dress was gorgeous.
I have to agree with the above posters that Nikki is far, far worse than Gracie’s mom. Telling little Ashley that Gracie is ugly? I can’t think of anything more despicable. And poor Ashley was clearly uncomfortable and didn’t know how to respond. At least Gracie’s mom had the decency to confront Nikki directly, instead of talking crap about LITTLE KIDS. And at the end Gracie’s mom encouraged her to congratulate Faith…….Lynn, which showed maturity far beyond anything Nikki has ever demonstrated.
Where the heck is Faith………Lynn’s mom? Does she realize that Coach Cooch is turning her daughter into a nasty, rude little mean girl?
Cant believe they had that cunt cootie bitch coach on here again… Really T&T.. dang.. I really was hoping for a bitch slap from the lady that was so country and English was so terrible really wanted her to beat coochy’s ass. I am sure she will get a beat down from someone she keeps talking about other peoples kids. How pathetic.
@ChiaChiodos….I agree,, put Alaska or any other well coached pageant season girl up against her and poor Faithlyn and cootie coach will be leaving crying. She would really be ready to cuss somebody then.
I am 90% certain this one was filmed before the one where Faithlyn was featured. I know this one was filmed in may.
Poor rich Grandma is unfortunately so beauty challenged that she makes Mama June easier on the eyes to take. That’s something I thought could never happen.
OMG, it’s a Coach Cooch double-header!
What was with Ashley’s grandma’s mouth? I couldn’t figure out if it was a condition of some sort or if it was just her lipstick that had smudged!
Is Fai’ling daughter of Failor from Real Housewives of BH?!
I read the recaps and the subsequent comment wars because they both are funny as hell. I do not watch the show because it makes me want to call CPS on some of the horrific parents, coaches, and kids on the show. I mean there are some good ones (Pagent-Grandma, I love you!!!) but for every good one, there is about 423908230 bad ones.
I believe Coach Cooch is the mayor, town crier, and only resident in White Trash Town and the only member of the “White Trash Mafia”. Requirements to be part of the WTM is as follows: big horse teeth, obnoxious voice, telling kids they are ugly at a PAGEANT, involved in pageants to begin with because they sucked and are now making their kids/”students” live THEIR dream (PG, I know you don’t do this and I know you probably realized that but I wanted to put it in there anyway), have an “honours” degree from ISpeakOutOfMyAsshole High School, threaten idiotic lawsuits on a WEBSITE dedicated to making fun on you, going on a reality show that makes most people have explosive diarrhea to begin with, and trolling around websites and telling people off because you suck.
While many people on T&T and life fit this bill, you Kristin are the only one who fits ALL of the criteria and therefore the ONLY member of the White Trash Mafia. Congratulations, you suck!!
DearCrabby, I love your recaps hun. I usually lurk on this recap but I want to change that. You do a great job!
Really, honestly, there really are far more of us “good pageant folk” than the bad ones. It’s just that (a) we have the good sense not to let TLC follow us around with cameras, and (b), if we did let them, frankly, we’re boring and no one would watch the show.
I think that Nikki is the reason the phrase “stranger danger” was created based on how she skulked up to Ashley to talk smack about another little girl. Creepy!
Really. Y’all don’t know about editing. Ashley was talking smack with faithlyn and they seemed to only show me talking with them. And as for Gracie’s mom, she’s trash. You can’t even understand what she says, and she looks for fights….and a pageant??? Wtf. It doesn’t get any worse than that. As for all of you that think I’m oh so terrible, talk all you want. You don’t know me
. But you do amuse me.
Oh, thank heavens I do not know you. That has to be one of the most ignorant and meaningless statements to emerge from trash talk shows. Of course it is the one people like Nikki throw out because they do not have the capacity to intellectually defend their aberrant behavior.
All of us know about editing. The main thing we know is that if you don’t give it to them, they cannot use it. Blaming the editing monkeys is loser reality show participant Trope Number One. Got anymore sterotypes for us?
And where did Faithlyn learn the smack-talking behavior? Oh, that’s right! From YOU!! If I were dumb enough to allow the cameras to follow me, and a child in my vicinity, mine or not, started smack talking with another child, they’d be hearing the what-for from me faster than they could blink! I most assuredly would not be jumping in and egging them on!! So try again.
Nikki that pageant money could be better spent trying to get Faff’Lynn into your alma mater so she can build a brighter future. Now if you just tell me where you studied hair, nails, HVAC or computer repair I can counsel her on which GED classes will best prepare her for graduation. Signed Faff’Lynne’s future if you continue to be a part of her life.
@Faye that made me LOL
@PageantGrandma My friends see the pictures of my daughter and her pageant friends hanging out and having fun. They see the pictures of my daughter tagging along with her coach as she volunteers in the community and they start to think our crazy little habit isn’t as crazy as they thought. And then they see an episode like this and they go back to thinking we are totally insane. I accept the fact that we are a little crazy but there are a lot of positives to pageants that seem to get lost in episodes like this. The show has been turning into a freak a week lately and we won’t do any system that allows filming. I’ve noticed that the directors increase the fees for the pageants that are filmed, play up drama between moms, demand large deposits for parents who want their children to be submitted for the show and I don’t think it’s good for pageantry in general. Plus, I work in a professional environment and I really don’t think I would want a T&T appearance to show up in a google search of my name.
From what I could see Faith+Lynn looked the best on stage. I don’t doubt that Nikki pours her heart and soul into coaching the child, I just think she’s missing the important things. It’s not all about the crown, it’s about having fun, making friends, winning with humility and losing with grace. I’m so sick and tired of people whining about how they were edited to look bad. If you don’t give them anything to use, they can’t make you look bad.
I thought Ashley was the prettiest of the girls. I also enjoyed her personality. I couldn’t get past Jersie’s coach having never done a pageant but I still thought she was better than Nikki. Grace was cute but those women were awful. Not as awful as Nikki but still pretty awful.
Kudos to Nikki for stealing the show. I’m pretty sure she’s getting a thrill because everyone is talking about her. I guess this is probably the high point in her life, being a bitch and making fun of little kids on a reality show. Next stop, a job at Hooters and a double wide?
I never claimed to know how to do hair, makeup or nails. I just know how I WANT them all to look! And faithlyn has a mind of her own. Shes been a fireracker since she was 3!!! And btw, sorry Hun, no hooters job for me. I don’t have none!!
What human being would call their child or the child they coach “Hot”? My god, Faithlynn is 9! She is not supposed to be “Hot’! That just disturbed me to the core and I am sure some pedo’s out there were drooling. It was creepy the way that child was behaving on stage.
I’m sorry but Ashley’s moneybags grandma reminded me of Chris Farley in drag.
And, I thought it was cute how little Jersie was all smiles at the end of the pageant after she saw how (relatively) well she did. I’m glad her mom said she was going to look for a real coach. Maybe she’ll start talking.
What’s with giving kids place names? Jersie, Brooklyn, Alaska? I don’t get it.
All three kids that were featured this week were adorable. I loved Ashley and her non-stop chatter, her routine with the umbrella and mirror was cute. And Jersey (or however you spell it) was sweet, too – poor kid needs more practice and, you know, a coach that knows what she’s doing, but she was cute anyway.
And Gracie’s red dress was beautiful. And she had class, which is more than could be said for some other, non-featured twats on said program. (The ones with the ratty red dresses that acted like little brats and look like they’re headed straight for the pole)
Pageant Grandma, I totally want to go hang out with you at a pageant. We could get an entire Gasmi flock cheering for your granddaughter.
I didn’t think I imagined that Jersie’s sister was named Brooklyn. I wish I had.
And “I don’t have none” speaks volumes to the quality of a certain person’s honors degree. Wonder if it was homeschool….
@rollingeyes Grandma was clearly suffering from fruit punch mouth.
Can the parents/coaches not just agree to disagree and ignore each other? They are the ones that get the girls started “talking smack.” They are children and live what they learn from the adults around them. Nikki is awful but from what I could tell it was the other two women that kept it going this episode. All of them need to grow up and realize they aren’t out in the street, they are at a pageant where they paid a ton of money for 5-6 women to say your kid is the cutest out of 30 or so others. Think about it.
“I loved Ashley and her non-stop chatter, her routine with the umbrella and mirror was cute.” It was cute, but I didn’t understand how it fit in with either theme (circus or derby).
The music she used and the big hat made it derby. You don’t get to hear the real music, of course.
Once someone said the theme was circus/derby Ashley’s outfit made sense. She looked like a tiny Jessica Alba pre-recycle your poop to make shoes I don’t really have an acting career but like Hilary Duff people seem to be oddly interested in everything I do.
I don’t think Faith (long pause) Lynn is ugly or mean. She seems to have a lot of (what passes for) talent in pageants. I just think she needs one of the baths they use to get skunk funk off people because she unfortunately has that sea yamps stench all over her (shame regret inbreeding buffalo wing sauce vanilla beans jasmine and rosemary)
She is pretty delusional calling little kids names, if I were there I would have knocked her and her chompers into next week. Why also would she spend all her money on a girl that she isnt even related too? Maybe she is Faithylinns daddys little princess whore.
Wow. I have met quite a few people like this Nikki person throughout my life. She’s just a bully. She’s probably acted like that since she was small – bullying people who she secretly feels are smarter, or more naturally beautiful, or who are weaker so she feels she can get away with it. And now she’s teaching an innocent child (or two or three) how to be the same type of person.
Faithlynn (sigh. When will people learn that “kre8tive” names merely cause potential employers or college application boards to immediately peg a person as low income, low class or undereducated?), Faithlynn seems like a nice little kid who is being utterly polluted by an extremely low class bully.
I’m sure her mother feels that the interest being shown Faithlynn by a childless (THANK YOU GOD!!!) bully who is attempting to garner attention for herself through a kid, is her kid’s ticket to a better life (think Reba McIntire’s “Fancy”).
Well, lady, allowing an immature and foul-mouthed bully to dress your child up in gaudy, age-inappropriate clothing before she is told to prance and do stripper/”dancer” moves on a cheap stage in some sad, airport/convention center hotel conference room, in front of a few, random people found off the street who are to judge your kid for this spectacle, is simply not the “ticket” you are seeking. Know what is? Teaching your child that hard work, determination, sportsmanship, manners and most important, AN EDUCATION, EDUCATION, EDUCATION, is the path to success, well, that’s the ticket you are looking for.
Pageantry simply teaches your kid that if you work hard enough at being a slut, you can maybe, possibly, score a man who admires your sluttiness and can support you. (Way to aim high).
I really hope Faithlynn’s mother and any other mother or father of any other child exposed to Nikki, pulls their child away from her as fast as possible. She is a horrible, negative influence. Simply look at her life. That’s what she is giving your kids. Please, get them away from that immature bully.
As to Gracie’s family, I never once heard them badmouth another child on that program. Unlike Nikki. Further, they stated they were angry off the bat because Nikki had been criticizing Gracie and calling her ugly. I believe that wholeheartedly, based on Nikki’s public comments to date on this show about various children. Gracie’s family simply wanted her to stop speaking about their child. Sure, they may have showed their lack of education in their manner of speech and rough language but I understand the sentiment. If a scummy person like “truckslut” Nikki had badmouthed my “youngin”” (cute), I would have had the same desire to confront her and tell her to keep my child’s name out of her ugly, filthy mouth.
In the end, the proof is in the pudding: Gracie and her family showed class by not badmouthing children and by congratulating the winner. Nikki and the child she is polluting showed a total lack of class by gossiping about little kids and calling them “ugly”.
Wow.
We’re all coming down on the pageants here. I don’t really know too much about them. Of course, they’re sensationalized on TNT. But, I think the larger state pageants do offer scholarships. I’m not denying there’s a lot of petty bullshit and low-class shenanigans going on here but you have to look at people like Vanessa Williams. She’s one classy lady and she was Miss America. Don’t know how young she was when she started, though.
Maybe that’s the problem. These kids are starting out too young and aren’t do this of their free will a lot of the time. It seems lots of these parents are trying to live out their dreams thru their kids. It gets to the point where can’t separate themselves from the kid. Nikki, you’re not competing. Faithlynn is not your comtemporary. She’s a child. Don’t have adult conversations with her. Don’t try to project your feelings to or thru her. She may have the moves and know how to work it but no one’s going to want to be around her if she starts mimicing what you say.
Missed this episode – visiting the fam. Does anyone know if it is online? And, if so, where? Thanks!
I don’t know much about pagents either but Emmy and Tony award winning actress Kristin Chenoweth says that pagents paid her way through college – she has a Master’s in opera performance and is also a very classy lady. She was also second runner up for Miss Oklahoma – but I don’t think the T&T type of pagent is the kind that got her there.
I agree with what one of the posters up thread said \TLC is probably only looking for the Freak Show\.
Who cares if Nikki is a bully? This makes for some interesting TV. There are far more worse situations for a kid to be in. If Faithlynn’s parents don’t have a problem with her and Nikki why should we? I watch TV for entertainment and I hope Nikki and Faithlynn get another episode.
TLC is definitely in it only for the freakshow. Like any other kids’ activity, there are plenty to choose from, but most of us are pretty normal. Like the “normal” there’s no way you’d waste a Wednesday night watching on tv.
We don’t know what Faithlynn’s parents think because they are conspicuously absent from the show. Which I don’t get. In order to be on this show, doesn’t a parent have to be on it with them? This is the FIRST time we don’t see a parent, only a coach. And if her parents don’t care about as Nikki claims, they why is she in pageants? Again, doesn’t a parent have to be involved to some extent here? This situation is just weird. And why would you blow all your money on one kid who is not even yours? HOw many siblings does this kid have that she is THAT ignored by mom and dad?!
I would love to ask Nikki’s defenders (all 2 of them from the last tread) and especially the one whose child is coached by her….how do you feel about how she calls other CHILDREN names? I mean adults can hold their own, but a 7 or 8 year old? Do you really need to feel that superior to a small child? Is that part of your brutal honesty? I will tell you as an educated Northeastern (Brooklyn in the house!) you start talking smack about my kid like that either stand your ground and tell me to my face so you can take your ass whooping like a grown up or run like hell. Those my dear are your options.
Oh and just to let you know, defend her all you want for her \brutal honesty\ and how much your child loves her, but I guarantee one thing. The second you back is turned she is talking shit about you and your kid to someone else. People like her always have something to say about everybody and loooooove to spew to the nearest ear.
****thread***
I will correct it before the grammar police show up with my court summons
@ Kimmi Paul
1st I don’t care about your grammar. 2nd, you’re willing to fight someone who calls your kid a name? No. You’re willing to assault someone who calls your child a name. Ugh…grow up! Nikki didn’t even say anything to that child’s face. Grown ass woman ready to fight because someone said her kid was ugly on TV…what a laugh
@nancy remember the episode with the drag queens and the ultra classy pageant dad? The mom was right there but they didn’t identify her as the mom. Focusing on the crazy just makes better tv! I’m sure the mom was right there but they film each kid for 4 days for a 42 minute show. Nikki was obviously more than willing to provide them with more than enough crazy/ugly, they didn’t even need to show the mom.
@ashley24
You’re right, she didn’t say it to the kid’s face, just to Faithlyn and another child (whom she was not coaching and had nothing to do with btw) which is sooooo much more cowardly. Oh and in front of the TV cameras that were following her. Did she not think anyone would not hear that? HELLLLOOOOO!!!! And you of course did not answer the main question….
Do you think it is appropriate for an ADULT to be talking so nasty and making fun of a CHILD??? Especially in front of her protege (another child) and on television? Is that the wholesome values you want your child to learn? Also, is it perfectly ok to make fun of other adults with that same child?
If you can answer those honestly, then we can have a discussion…until then don’t bother me.
Oh and just so you know, I have never assaulted anyone because I do not associate with people like her. All I’m saying is if you can dish it out you better be prepared to take it. As I tell my daughter, you always need to watch what you say because you have no idea who might be sitting around you. Apparently at her age, Nikki has not learned that same lesson….
My Christmas gift to this thread is to tell y’all that one of my favorite movies, Smile (1975), is now streaming on Netflix.
“This sharp-witted satire stars Barbara Feldon as Brenda DiCarlo, an icy taskmaster and former beauty pageant contestant charged with coordinating the final round of the Young American Miss contest — the pride of Santa Rosa, Calif. But despite the pageant’s squeaky-clean image, the townspeople are far from model citizens: The contestants are cutthroat, Brenda’s husband is suicidal and the head judge’s son is a peeping Tom. Bruce Dern co-stars.”
I just wanted to tell Jersie’s mom that it’s possible her daughter has an obsessive compulsive disorder called selective mutism. If she won’t talk to adults or in public, look into the disorder and see if the traits fit your daughter. She may grow out of it (like my sister did) or she may need some cognitive behavior therapy. It’s not a big deal, but she may have some anxiety that goes along with speaking and she may need some help. Good luck!
Wow Cranky, that sounds like Miss America crossed with Meet the Feebles. I may have to plug in the wii to watch it.
@ForJersiesMom
I was thinking the same thing!!!!! I didn’t know it was an OCD related issue, thanks for the info!
@sal (38) go onto tv links, and use the sockshare version of this episode. I have the direct link if you want it, but I’m not entirely sure if I’m allowed to post it here…
Claireoke – I was wrong, it’s a Social Anxiety Disorder and very often presents with OCD, but is not itself an obsessive compulsive disorder. At any rate, forcing a child to speak or threatening them only adds to their anxiety. I hope Jersie is “opening up” more, but if she’s not, treatment may help her.
@Valentine & 2MuchBravo I love glitz pageants but I would say the number of girls putting themselves through college with pageant winnings is around the same number of girls who are putting themselves through college by working the pole. Even lower with these kiddie glitz pageants. The Vanessa Williams and Kristin Chenoweths are the exceptions and not the rule. I think as long as people have realistic expectations and the kids are having fun, then it’s great, but people like Nikki are like a toxic cancer and will spread the negativity and nastiness.
Judging by her twitter, she’s moved away and has moved on from Faithlyn to a new little girl…
@crankyguy Funny you should mention Smile! I just watched that a month or two ago on some new channel I suddenly got, This TV or something like that. I really enjoyed it. I like satire with a dash of dark humor.
I felt really bad for Jersie. My daughter was the same way when she was little. She was just simply shy. She (mostly) grew out of it. Her mother trying to basically shame her into talking made me cringe. That tactic will only make things worse. I left her alone, let her come around at her own pace and she was just fine.
My grandmother, who had no tact to speak of, once said to me “Is she shy or is she just mean?’ when my daughter wouldn’t come to her. She was 18 months old. My grandmother was a rather loud woman and was basically a stranger to her. Of course she was scared of her. Ay yi yi…people.
Where is Dear Crabby? I’m dying waiting for the full recap…
@audball- Thank you so much!
Anyone see this new gem TLC is working on? It’s about married women in pageants. I’m already excited for the recaps.
http://www.deadline.com/2012/12/tlc-orders-pageant-wives-backdoor-pilot-about-married-women-in-beauty-pageants/
I don’t think Vanessa’s career would have taken off had she not taken it off. The publicity she got from being Miss America was ok, “resigning” was better and being on the cover of Penthouse with George Burns was, as they say nowadays “priceless”. And in as much as I love Kristin Chenoworths singing voice, I really have a hard time with her speaking voice. It is a pet peave of mine when a grown ass woman talks like a baby.
Robin
@Robin…I totally agree. Vanessa Williams gained fame as Miss America, but she would have probably faded into the shadows like most of them do, had her Penthouse spread not come out.
@Stagemom, This I gotta see, hopefully we will be able to get it too! What shall we bet on the only commenter Ashley being THE pageant director?
And going to 300 pageants a year? She should have my captcha: “rack and ruin”
How can I contact Ashley’s grandma? Such beauty should be shared with the rest of the world—–the chins, the mouth, the balloon belly, the tasteful clothes (such taste!!!!), the posture. But the MOUTH takes the cake. Let me buy her a mirror–Pleeeaaasssee.
