Padma Lakshmi is back on the market!

After months of rumours, two weeks after her husband received a controversial British knighthood that got extremist Muslims riled up–and hours after terror attacks in the UK that some speculate could have been a response to the honors– the beautiful, stoned-out host of Top Chef has gotten the big man to admit officially that he’s lost his sexpot trophy of a (fourth) wife.

“Salman Rushdie has agreed to divorce his wife, Padma Lakshmi, because of her desire to end their marriage,” spokesperson Jin Auh said in a statement today. “He asks that the media respect his privacy at this difficult time.”

Because of her desire to end their marriage… After Rushdie’s knighthood was taken as another “Satanic Verses” attack on Islam, we were worried Padma might get caught in the crossfire. She responded by showing up in the gossip pages in the company of other men, pushing her husband to break the news.

The pair wed three years ago. He’s 60. She’s 37.

    Lakshmi or Mahalaxmi (Sanskrit: लक्ष्मी lakṣmī) is the Hindu goddess of WEALTH, light, wisdom, the lotus flower and FORTUNE.

    In other words, the patron saint of gold-diggers.

    Clearly Padma got what she needed within three years and is outa there.
