“One Big Straight Gay Multi-Cultural Traditional Happy Family Comedy”

It’s ABC’s turn to showcase it’s comedy line-up tonight……

The Dunphy’s: Phil, Luke, Alex, Haley & Claire. Phil on a successful marriage: “Never go to bed hungry.” Claire: “The expression is ‘angry’.” Phil: “When you say it like that, it is.”

Modern Family premieres tonight on ABC at 9pm, right after Dancing With the Stars results show at 8pm. This is being toted as this year’s biggest hit & I think I agree. I’ve watched all the promos & I LOL’d.

Cameron & Mitchell are the gay couple in the neighborhood who have adopted a beautiful little baby. “Was it love at first sight?” “No, no no no no no…. but it is now”.

Jay, Manny & Gloria. Jay is a husband, father, ex-husband, grandfather & step-father. That’s why he doesn’t answer his phone.

Cougar Town with Courtney Cox, premieres at 9pm. As you can tell by the title, it’s about a middle-age, single mom trying to get back her youth, to the embarassment of her teenage son. Oh & it’s also the name of the high school football team, “Go Cougars!” I’m liking this one too, from what I’ve seen. It just seems like there’s an awful lot of “cougars” in this town.

Eastwick follows with it’s premiere at 10pm. It been called “Wisteria Lane with witchcraft”, in direct reference to Desperate Housewives. It’s really loosely based on the movie Witches of Eastwick which starred Jack Nicholson as the “devil”. That role is now being played by Paul Gross, who is definitely not Jack. The witches are Rebecca Romijn, Lindsey Price & Jamie Ray Newman. This could be campy-fun, but I’m holding my judgement until I se the show.

Nothing funnier than drunken bitches witches.

Over at NBC, they aren’t going the comedy route. They are trying to make up for the loss of ER with a new medical drama. Mercy premieres at 8pm & the focus is on the nurses in a hospital trauma center. Nurse Veronica (Taylor Schilling) is just back from Iraq & is struggling to resume a normal life. If any of you have watched Nurse Jackie on Showtime, don’t expect that here. This is much more family-friendly & that might work in this time slot.
The Law & Order: SVU premiere follows at 9pm. This is the only drama NBC saved from Jay. Speaking of Jay, The Jay Leno Show at 10pm, has Vince Vaughn plugging a movie & Bob Costas & Al Michaels will face-off at the ‘racetrack’.

“There’s nothing funny to see here. Move along.”

CBS has it’s comedy continuing tonight with the return of The New Adventures of Old Christine at 8pm. The 5th season opener finds Christine in the Bahamas with brother Matt, trying to secure a fake visa so Barb can return to the U.S.
Gary: Unmarried is back at 8:30pm for it’s 2nd season. Gary gets his “dream come true” job as a sportscaster. Both shows were almost canned by CBS last year. Let’s see how long they stick around this year. I’m a fan of Christine, but Gary is too predictable.
Two huge ratings hits return tonight with Criminal Minds premiering at 9pm. In it’s 5th season opener, Hotchner disappears while profiling a serial killer.
CSI: NY follows at 10pm with it’s 6th season premiere, picking up where it left off, with it’s cliffhanger ending of machine gun fire at a bar, where they were honoring a fallen comrade.

FOX has auditions continuing on So You Think You Can Dance at 8pm, going had-to-head with it’s dancing competition, DWTS.
Glee is all-new at 9pm. Kurt, after being continuously abused as a nerd, tries to join the football team.

Over on the CW, there is a new episode of America’s Next Top Model at 8pm. Tyra teaches the girls how to “walk the runway”.
The Beautiful Life follows at 9pm. Nina Garcia from Project Runway makes a guest appearance.

There’s a new episode of Top Chef: Las Vegas at 10pm. Penn & Teller make a surprise visit & the chefs challenge is to make them a ‘magical’ culinary delight. The guest judge is Chef Michael Bernstein.

I’m out of time today kids. I need to get going to the video store. I have late video games!!! My “Pick of the Night” is Modern Family.
Oh & I think Kathy Ireland & Ashley Hamilton will be the ones going home on DWTS.

I’ll say…Paul Gross is definitely not, Jack. Paul is extrememly attractive…something which Jack has NEVER been. As for the show…it has potential.

I forgot SVU was even on…
