Star-Studded can’t begin to describe tonight’s 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards! Let’s JUMP to it………

Picture 4-2

My anticipation overwhelms me! It’s the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards tonight on NBC. This is my favorite awards show of the year. It’s so much better than all those others. We get to see celebrities from both venues, movies & TV, all in the same room eating & getting drunk together. This year is the biggest star line-up ever. It’s the mother-load of fame. I’m just giddy with excitement. It’s just like Thanksgiving! I’m going to gorge myself on all glitz & glamour. Of course, I will also be there on the red carpet to tear apart all those horrible fashion choices. I’m an expert. I watch Project Runway.

Red Carpet coverage starts at 4pm this afternoon on both E! & TV Guide Channels. It gets serious at 6pm when Ryan Seacrest & Giuliana DePandi interview the celebrities for E! & Lisa Rinna & Joey Fatone do the duties for TV Guide.

NBC starts Red Carpet coverage at 7pm with the Awards show starting at 8pm.

Here’s what I mean about STAR power at tonight’s event. I’ll start with the Movie nominations.

Best Picture:

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Frost/Nixon

Revolutionary Road

Slumdog Millionaire

The Reader

I’ve seen none of these movies, but I’m picking “Revolutionary Road” for the win. It’s got Leo & Kate together again. That’s enough for me.

Best Actor:

Leonardo DiCaprio – Revolutionary Road

Frank Langella – Frost/Nixon

Sean Penn – Milk

Brad Pitt – The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button

Mickey Rourke – The Wrestler

See what I mean about STAR power! I just can’t pick who I want to win. I’m leaning towards Leo, but I feel like I’m cheating on Brad if I do. (I’m sure Pegster wants Leo to come out on top, but Brad’s just as ‘golden’ as Leo, don’t ya think?) Sean Penn has a good chance at the gold, but in the end, it will probably be a “WTF” moment and Mickey Rourke will emerge as pack leader.

Best Actress:

Anne Hathaway – Rachel Getting Married

Angelina Jolie – Changeling

Meryl Streep – Doubt

Kristin Scott Thomas – I’ve Loved You So Long

Kate Winslet – Revolutionary Road

We’ve got a real cat-fight going on here. I know one thing’s for sure. Meryl Streep will be the worst dressed of the group. This old lady just doesn’t know how bad she looks at these events. She will not disappoint me again tonight. All the cameras will be on Brangelina though, waiting to see how this power couple reacts when neither one goes home with a trophy. I predict another upset & the little princess of Genovia walks away with the award.

Best Supporting Actor:

Tom Cruise – Tropic Thunder

Robert Downey Jr. – Tropic Thunder

Ralph Fiennes – The Duchess

Philip Seymour Hoffman – Doubt

Heath Ledger – The Dark Knight

If Heath Ledger doesn’t win this one, I will be totally shocked. I know the guy is dead, but I really think he deserves to win & not because he’s gone. He was awesome in “The Dark Knight” & would still win if he was among the living. He “made” that movie. Tom Cruise being a nominee will guarantee a fight on the red carpet for photos between the Cruises & the Pitts. Who will be more stunningly dressed? I’m going with Katie. Angelina tries to hard to be different & Katie seems to lean towards the classic look. (don’t I sound like Nina).

Best Supporting Actress:

Amy Adams – Doubt

Penélope Cruz – Vicky Cristina Barcelona

Viola Davis – Doubt

Marisa Tomei – The Wrestler

Kate Winslet – The Reader

Kate Winslet is nominated in this category too. She could go home a double loser. Marisa Tomei is back. It was a shocker when she won an Oscar for “My Cousin Vinny” & I don’t think she’ll win this one. One of the “Doubt” girls will win. One thing’s for sure. Penelope Cruz will be stunningly beautiful & Tom Cruise will be kicking himself in the ass for not hanging on to her.

Best Director:

Danny Boyle – Slumdog Millionaire

Stephen Daldry – The Reader

David Fincher – The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button

Ron Howard – Frost/Nixon

Sam Mendes – Revolutionary Road

The only one I know is Opie, so I’m rooting for him to win. I watched David Frost interview Richard Nixon all those years ago & I’d like to watch this movie just to see how it come off as a movie. It was boring as all hell in real life. Of course I was just a child in 1977 (23).

Original Song:

“Down To Earth” – Wall-E

Music By: Peter Gabriel and Thomas Newman

“Gran Torino” – Gran Torino

Music By: Clint Eastwood, Jamie Cullum, Kyle Eastwood and Michael Stevens

“I Thought I Lost You” – Bolt

Music & Lyrics By: Miley Cyrus and Jeffrey Steele

“Once In A Lifetime” – Cadillac Records

Music & Lyrics By: Beyoncé Knowles, Amanda Ghost, Scott McFarmon, Ian Dench, James Dring and Jody Street

“The Wrestler” – The Wrestler

Music & Lyrics By: Bruce Springsteen

Look at this list of Power here. There’s Bruce Springsteen, Miley Cyrus, Sasha Fierce, & Clint Eastwood all in the same category. I’m picking Bruce to win this one, even though Disney tunes usually win. I’m hoping that Miley doesn’t show up all dressed up like a little girl. She should be all glammed out so she’ll make a scandalous red carpet moment. Sasha Fierce will definitely be wearing something tight & shiny to show off her ample ass. She will be fierce!

NOW we get to the BIGGEST competition of the night…..The BEST TV Drama!

Best Drama:

Dexter (SHO)

House (FOX)

In Treatment (HBO)

Mad Men (AMC)

True Blood (HBO)

The only network show is “House”. That’s surprising considering CBS has the highest-rated dramas on TV. Not a one is on this list. Makes me wonder who does the nominating? My trifecta of Sunday night shows are all pitted against each other. How can I choose? I’m leaning towards “Dexter”. This past season was so intense, but the newbie, “True Blood” was also an ‘edge of your seat’ show. “Mad Men”, on the other hand, kept me wondering what was going on & why did I care. It sucked me in and wouldn’t let me go. I loved it. “House” didn’t have it’s best year IMO. I know one thing, if “In Treatment” wins this thing, I will be OUTRAGED!! It doesn’t even compare to the other four. I will write a scathing letter to the foreign press if that happens.

Best Actor TV Drama:

Gabriel Byrne – In Treatment

Michael C. Hall – Dexter

Jon Hamm – Mad Men

Hugh Laurie – House

Jonathan Rhys Meyers – The Tudors

I definitely want Michael C. Hall to win this one. He is so good at being a serial killer. Just the fact that he choked the life out of Jimmy Smits is enough for me. I’m just hoping that Hugh Laurie shaves for this event. He looks like such a bum.

Best Actress TV Drama:

Sally Field – Brothers & Sisters

Mariska Hargitay – Law & Order

January Jones – Mad Men

Anna Paquin – True Blood

Kyra Sedgwick – The Closer

January Jones as Betty is a shoe-in for this one. She was the best mother & wife since June Cleaver. I loved watching her deal with the day to day tasks of being perfect in every way. Her meltdown on the diningroom chair is classic! She also wore some really great clothes. I’m hoping she wears something vintage on the red carpet. Kyra Sedgwick’s nomination will guarantee a Kevin Bacon sighting. Worst dressed in this group will be her though. She’s just not fashion savvy. Who wants to look at her anyways. I’d rather look at her husband.

Best TV Comedy:

30 Rock (NBC)

Californication (SHO)

Entourage (HBO)

The Office (NBC)

Weeds (SHO)

No sign of “Two & a Half Men” on CBS which is the #1 comedy in the ratings. This is proof that ratings mean nothing when it comes to awards. Being a money-maker doesn’t mean it’s good enough to be honored by anybody. 30 Rock is the winner. Tina Fey has had a fantastic year & this will be the icing on her cake. She’ll look good too.

Best Actor Comedy:

Alec Baldwin – 30 Rock

Steve Carell – The Office

Kevin Connolly – Entourage

David Duchovny – Californication

Tony Shalhoub – Monk

Alec Baldwin is riding on Tina Fey’s coattails and this will be a win for him. No Charlie Sheen or Jon Cryer on the list. Not even Sheldon. CBS has really been snubbed all the way around. I guess they don’t care. They’re making tons of money. Besides, they still have the Emmy’s in the fall.

Best Actress Comedy:

Christina Applegate – Samantha Who?

America Ferrera – Ugly Betty

Tina Fey – 30 Rock

Debra Messing – The Starter Wife

Mary-Louise Parker – Weeds

This is another big Tina Fey win. She just can’t lose. I can say, without doubt, that Debra Messing will look riddiculous & everybody will put her on the ‘best dressed’ list again. I don’t get it. I think she’s a nightmare. Her gowns look like they were designed by Suede. Thhe only one who may look worse than her would be America. She takes her role as Ugly Betty seriously. Christina will win the ‘best dressed’ in this group of hens.

There ya have it. The nominees for tonight’s show & who I think, or hope, will win. I’m in it for the whole run & I can’t wait!!

I don’t know what else is on tonight, but I will check it out for those of you who won’t be watching the Golden Globes & post it later today.

love
