Cash Cow of the Family

Sometimes winning American Idol isn’t a good thing. Season #3 winner, Fantasia Barrino, found that out the hard way. After her second album bombed, she still had bills to pay & almost lost her home. Enter VH1… exploiter of the has-beens. Now she’s up & running again, working on a 3rd album & getting ready to return to Broadway, all the while cameras are rolling. Fantasia For Real premieres tonight at 10pm. Don’t think everything is wine & roses now. She still has to support her whole family, who by the way, drain her of all her money. Brother Joey, who they call “Teeny” (hmmm…. wonder where that comes from) is the biggest offender. He’s a worthless, lazy deadbeat, who feels no need to work. Add to that, two more brothers, her daughter & of course Mom & you have everything you need for a reality show. VH1 has more…..

“…. the ‘brown girls’ version of “Sex and the City.”

Let’s Talk About Pep is also premiering tonight on VH1, at 10:30pm. Sandra “Pepa” Denton, of Salt N Pepa fame, hasn’t been laid in four years & feels that now is the time to go hunting for a man. Of course, it’s only natural to have cameras following, to capture all the “magic”. Her & her 3 girlfriends, Jacque, Kittie and Joumana (who is married), swear that this is NOT a trashy show. Then why is it on VH1?

Elsewhere on your TV is the 6th season premiere of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations on TRAVEL, at 10pm. He’s in Panama. Why? To eat, of course.
Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives premieres its 8th season on FOOD, at 10pm too. Guy travels to San Francisco to check out the pork (insert joke here). I may have to DVR this one. He is suppose to go to Western New York for pizza & that’s my neck of the woods. Is he going to Lena’s?

All the CBS comedy shows return tonight with new episodes. How I Met Your Mother celebrates it’s 100th episode with a song & dance routine with, of course, Neil Patrick Harris front & center. Bob Saget does the introduction & we will finally get to see who Barney’s tailor is. It’s Tim Gunn!

Hold him back… he’s trying to sing again!

I’m wondering if Two & 1/2 Men will have a ratings drop now that we all know Charlie Sheen is an asshole. (like we didn’t know that already). I’m betting it doesn’t affect the ratings at all & it still makes the “Top Twenty” list.

Also returning with new episodes are House on FOX, at 8pm. The show just won “Best Drama Series” at the People’s Choice Awards & Hugh Laurie snagged the “Best Actor” title. (I’m always dazzled when I hear him talk ‘British’). Fringe, which follows at 9pm, has an “unseen” episode. Does that mean it’s not new?

Castle returns at 10pm on ABC. of course it follows a two-hour episode of The Bachelor which airs at 8pm. Should I be watching this show…I mean Castle, not Bachelor?

Am I missing something good?

Chuck takes it’s rightful timeslot at 8pm on NBC. Heroes follows with a new episode at 9pm. Maybe when they dump The Jay Leno Show, (I hate to say “I told ya so”, but I did!) after the Olympics, they’ll put the nurse show, Mercy in that spot. I hate to see it cancelled. I like it so far.

Oh & don’t forget my new “guilty pleasure” show, Hoarders at 10pm on A&E. Sometimes it’s just too shocking to believe that people really live like that. Then I think back & I do know at least two families, in my past, who did live with stacks of books & boxes & trash everywhere.

That’s it for tonight kids. Tomorrow is the big premiere of American Idol. It’s only the audition shows, so no Ellen. They’re not going to break her out till they’ve weeded through the crazies.

I miss Paula already!

So the question is “Who will win the ratings war Tuesday night…. the 9th season premiere of American Idol or the 150th episode of NCIS? We shall see……
