That’s not a bird or a plane or even Underdog….

The premiere of ABC’s V, their sci-fi endeavor, did extremely well last week with 14.3 million tuning in to see the lizards arrive. In fact, among that all-important 18-49 age group, it was the highest premiere since LOST in 2004. Although it dropped 23% of that audience last night, with 10.6 million tuning in for the invasion, those are still good numbers.

The top show, of course, went to the 2009 World Series……

“Look, we even had it engraved in Japanese!”

The NY Yankees win over the Philadelphia Eagles in game #6 of the World Series hit big-time numbers at 22.3 million watching the 7-3 victory on FOX. NBC came in second with it’s big Sunday Night Football match-up of the Dallas Cowboys vs the Philadelphia Eagles. (Philly didn’t win that one either with a 20-16 loss). The rest of the ratings list is dominated by CBS (11 shows). This is really getting old. There are never any surprises & I was really hoping that this fall season would give me something to get excited about. Trust me, I NEED to get excited!!!

Here is Mr. Nielson’s “Top Twenty” list for the week of Nov. 2-8:

1. World Series Game #6 FOX 22.3mil
2. Sunday Night Football NBC 21.9mil
3. NCIS CBS 20.2mil
4. World Series Game #5 FOX 17.1mil
5. 60 Minutes CBS 16.9mil
6. Dancing with the Stars (Mon) ABC 16.7mil
7. The Mentalist CBS 16.2mil
8. CSI CBS 15.6mil

20. CSI: NY CBS 12mil

The “HIT” list:

HANK-ABC.jpg
Gone…. & yes, forgotten…..

It has been confirmed that ABC’s Hank with Kelsey Grammer, has been cancelled. It’s currently filming it’s 10th episode & will NOT continue after that. They have already aired 5 episodes of the show & ABC has no plans to air the remaining five. Instead, the 8pm time slot will be filled with reruns of Modern Family for the rest of the month.

ABC also officially announced the cancellation of Eastwick after it’s 13-episode run, while picking up the forgotten for an extra 6 episodes. This is great news for me. I ALMOST got excited! I’m a fan of Christian Slater, so him being on my TV screen is a good thing. As for Eastwick, Rebecca Rojmin was more believable as a transvestite than a witch.

The Wednesday night comedy war between CBS & ABC is split…..

Dole out those hugs… it’s getting more exposure now that Hank‘s been canned!

The New Adventures of Old Christine, (CBS) with 7 million viewers, is beating Hank (ABC)at 5.3 million.
Gary Unmarried, (CBS) at 6.7 million, is ahead of The Middle (ABC), with 6.1 million tuning in.
Modern Family (ABC) has 8.6 million watching, beating drama Law & Order (NBC) with 8 million viewers, but neither one can compete with Criminal Minds (CBS) & it’s 12 million fans. This also kicks Cougar Town‘s ass (ABC) with only 6.8 million sticking around after Modern Family.

The CW’s Vampire Diaries is still strong, with 4.9 million watching.
Castle ABC 9.7 million
Flash Forward ABC 8.5 million
Bones FOX 8.5 million
Family Guy Presents: Seth & Alex’s Almost Live Show FOX 6.6 million
Heroes NBC 6.2 million
Community NBC 5.6 million

Here’s the “Top Ten” list on the cable networks:

madmen.jpg
New Beginnings?

In the primetime cable race, AMC’s Mad Men finale did well overall with 2.3 million watching the fall & rise of Don Draper & Co. There’s a BUT to all this. It doesn’t hold up as well in the all-important 18-49 age group. Most of these viewers don’t even remember the 60′s, let alone care about watching them. Mad Men slips to 1.1 million in this demographics. It’s FX’s biker soap operaSons of Anarchy, that comes out on top. It scored 2.3 million viewers in that age group.

These shows also did well in this 18-49 group:
Kate: Her Story TLC 2.3mil People are still into this trainwreck!
Keeping Up with the Kardashians E! 2.1mil. Why???
South Park ComCentral 1.9mil Still has that edge.

I’d love to squeeze the piss outta him!

Football is still #1 on cable, but the kiddie shows are creeping back to the top now that baseball is officially over for the season.

1. NFL Football Falcons/Saints ESPN 12.3mil
2. Spongebob: Truth or Square NICK (Fri-8pm) 7.6mil
3. Spongebob: Truth or Square NICK (Sat 9:30am) 7.1mil
4. FanBoy & Chum Chum NICK (Fri-9:pm) 5.7mil
5. Spongebob NICK (Sat-9am) 5.6mil
6. FanBoy & Chum Chum NICK (Sat-10:30am) 5.4mil
7. Spongebob NICK (Sat-8:30am) 5mil
8. WWE RAW USA (Mon-9pm) 5mil
9. Spongebob: Truth or Square (Sat-7pm) 4.9mil
10. The O’Reilly Factor FOXNC (Thur-8pm) 4.9mil

That’s it for now. I’m not surprised at the new cancellations. These shows seemed doomed form day one. Fox’s Dollhouse is next.
