Rebecca Romijn starts work Monday on Ugly Betty. The former model has signed for a regular role on the ABC series as the mystery woman who’s conspiring with Venessa Williams’ character to take over the publishing house.
Rebecca’s character has already been seen this season. Conveniently, her face has always been covered in gauze– although the voice was supplied by another actress. Oh, well. It’s not exactly a case of the Two Darrins.
But there’s something more significant to the story of the beautiful actress with a movie career turning to a supporting role on an ensemble series after tanking on the WB (remember Pepper Dennis?).
Rebecca’s role completes an unlikely, unholy network television triangle: with ex-husband John Stamos saving lives and ratings on ER, and fiancé Jerry O’Connell returning in Crossing Jordan in January, all three participants in this very friendly Hollywood divorce and rebound rebound are commanding prime time network TV!The FCC should take a break from its obscenity obsession and look into that.
(And by the way, who noticed the way Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip got up on its soapbox and socked it to the FCC in a rousing Ed Asner speech this week? Now that Aaron Sorkin’s gotten the word to focus on “relationships,” the show’s gotten even wackier and more off balance, with Matthew Perry getting smoochy with Cherry Jones’ girlfriend, the guy from The West Wing suddenly getting all gooey over Amanda Peet, and our pal DL Hughley gradually getting a little too close to Rob Corddry’s little brother. Someone decipher all that and start recapping Studio 60– it’s the best bad show on television!)

How could she possibly have been cast as Fay?!? The character supposedly had a decades long affair with Daniel’s father! Are we supposed to believe that her youthful appearance is due to some spectacular plasic surgery?
Who keeps giving this woman work? Did we learn nothing from “Pepper Dennis”?
