I'd Give My Right Arm For A Decent Terrorist Attack!

You know when you go to a wedding that you don't really want to go to, but the one saving grace is that you know that that one cool uncle will be there, the one you know is going to be a fun time? He's always the life of the party, maybe he ends up with a lampshade on his head or making out with the bride or electrocuting the groom with a floor lamp? So when you go and find out that he's not in a partying mood this time, or he's trying not to act like a moron in front of some girl, or he's in some sort of twelve-step program, it's sad. Because he's your go-to Awesome Guy. Well, that's what it felt like with this week's 24. Come on, 24, you're always so awesome, and now you throw at us the most boring episode ever? WTF man? I thought you were cool!

We begin in the Presidential Bunker, which we'll be seeing a lot of tonight, where Tom has set up a video meeting with the Attorney General. Wayne, suddenly and magically stuffed into a suit, is totally fine. Just a bump on the noggin, my dear chaps! He asks Dr. Doctor to give him a shot of adrenaline, so as not to show any weakness in front of Daniels. If you ask me, not even a shot of pure Jack Bauer blood will help Wayne look any fiercer than a helpless kitten, but whatevs. Dr. Doctor has plenty of "medical reasons" not to comply with his wishes, but Wayne makes him do it anyway.

Jack and Bill trade info about Gredenko and Palmer over the phone. Jack says he has no intention of honoring any deal with Gredenko, so he just wants the Attorney General to draft up the papers and he'll take care of the rest. So Jack will let the whole pardon thing go with Nina but not this Russian dude? I don't know about that. Also, the Attorney General must feel like the most popular boy in school today.

Wayne slooooowly makes his way back to the cabinet room. Daniels coldly welcomes his back, while Karen smirks over on the sidelines. Tom gives a summary of what has happened so far, and Dr. Doctor informs everyone that Wayne should be totally fine. Brain damage - tis but a scratch! Wayne makes his case, that the cabinet can't ignore the wishes of the American People, since they voted him into office. And I can't help but think seriously? They really did? Were they being distracted by something shiny? Daniels starts waving his "25th Amendment" banner and makes his own case, saying that since Wayne stopped the attack on Iraqistan, he no longer has the balls to be President. Tom, perhaps to alleviate the boredom of this scene, says they'll reconvene in ten minutes to decide. Yawn.

That's it, Tom! Dance your troubles away!

Screampillar, Your review was much better than the show itself. I don't think anyone could have been a bigger fan of this show than I, but this season truly stinks. I am flipping during commericials to watch M*A*S*H reruns, and sometimes forgetting to flip back. I heard somewhere that Keifer has been filming a movie and that is why he hasn't been in these episodes as much. For whatever the reason, they have gone seriously downhill, and can forget the Emmy nod next year.

Ty:

Great review...but did anyone else find it strange that the "audio device" that Gredenko had looked like a tape recorder circa 1990? I mean, they inject a freaking ISOTOPE in his arm bone to track his movements, but they give him a honking huge tape recorder for audio, complete with wires and everything. I seriously had to pause my TV because I was laughing my ass off so hard.

I would rather watch my brother play DOOM 2 than watch another boring episode like this. At least a video game has constant suspense, action and the blowing up of stuff. Not so much on 24 lately. I groaned inwardly as I realised I was watching a video conference on TV. And the supremely moronic "twist" of having Palmer the Lesser launch the strike on Iraqistan actually had me thinking for a second that perhaps an imposter had taken over his body. Because in my mind that was a more viable go-to explanation than what actually happened. Like if he was back on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and he had been turned, so, you know, evil and whatnot. Hey, it happened to Eric Balfour, not too much to hope for.
Gredenko was too interesting to stay, I guess. Too bad he's finished. I also laughed when I realised 24 took a page from Prison Break and lopped off someone's arm to advance the plot. At least Gredenko didn't have time to get a fricking VETERINARIAN to sew it back on.
I miss Brady the autistic brother from last week. CTU should hire him, and he and Chloe could share a cubicle. Wouldn't that be fun?
Great recap considering you didn't have much to work with. Thanks.

I agree with the others - excellent recap despite an atrocious episode. I have a feeling your recaps will be better than the show for the rest of the season. I wish they'd just quit now and try again next year. 24 has betrayed me.

Ty - I definitely laughed at the ancient "audio device." I guess they used their last high-tech in-the-ear transmitter on the retarded kid the week before.

ronclone:

I don't know what you're all saying, i actually enjoyed the episode. Granted, it wasn't that good, but not that bad either.
Palmer (pressident pussy II) launching the strike was a little stupid, all that trouble for nothing!
By the way, Great recap!!

I agree with others who everyone else who said this was a pretty crappy episode. The chopped off arm was so obvious when they mentioned that Gredenko couldn't dig out the isotopes. The writers should have put a flashing "foreshadowing" sign on the screen. The only high points were Tom's Pier 1 bowl of Espionage and Gredenko making the 'mericans beat the crap out of Fayed.

I haven't read the recaps lately, so maybe I missed this. Is there a consensus on Nadia's purpose other than possible eye candy?

Why must NBC make me wait for over a month for Heroes to return!?

jules:

Ye of little faith...you all are so impatient.

Thanks jules, basically what I was going to say. Last night was amazing, can't wait for the recap.

Truly abysmal episode, but the 4/9 one gives me hope that the writers finally realized they have to ditch this sinking ship and the show's going to be revived. Quick, quick with the recap so we can comment!! :)
