Hello again, Gasmi. We're back with episode 4 of 90210! This week, we are treated to some more Silver and Dixon, Naomi and Ethan, Ty and Annie, and a whole lot of outfit changes. Plus, the father of Kelly's son is revealed once and for all! Find out who knocked her up and left the country, after the jump...
Shh... I'll never tell
This week kicks off (as usual) at the Wilson household, where Dad informs Annie that the play's director had a family emergency and is taking a permanent leave of absence. Annie cannot believe that the musical might be cancelled, although you'd hardly be able to tell, because she's smiling. Well, I suppose she's not actually smiling, but her teeth are so big you can't really tell either way. Regardless, Lucille takes this golden opportunity to offer herself up for the position of director. Annie is none to happy about this but hey, it was either her or Tobias, and we all know how that one panned out.
Over at Naomi's, the whole happy family (sans Jen, Naomi's sister, who they are photoshopping in) gather in front of a Christmas tree to take photos for their Christmas card that year. Her parents have a seemingly insignificant conversation about their beach house while the photog snaps away and dad ultimately walks off to take a phone call from "an 'important client'. And by 'important client' I mean other woman. And by 'other woman' I mean my mistress. And by 'my mistress' I mean the woman I clearly care more about than either of you skanks."
Maybe he didn't say all of that, but either way Naomi is mad. I know because she's making that flared nostrils face again. She asks her mom why they even bother before stomping off.
Back at the Wilson's, Dixon sits down for breakfast as his parents have a conversation about money troubles. Dixon asks about it but Dad tells him not to worry. Oh it's nothing Dix, they're just are still paying off your adoption bills and the fancy school you're going to is expensive and, frankly, you eat a lot. Read between the lines.
Before heading out for school, Naomi stops into her mother's room to ask where they will be having dinner that night. Oh, you mean you're not yachting tonight? Sorry, Naomi, I had just assumed from you're outfit that you'd be at sea all day. Seriously, can I maybe have the wardrobe stylists phone number or something? I just want to have a little chat with her. I promise I won't threaten her young or reverse look-up her address, but these outfits have GOT to stop.
Mom! Does this make me look like Sailor Moon?
In the cafeteria, Kelly and Brenda are sitting down for breakfast and after a brief discussion about Donna and how cute her baby is, Brenda cuts through the shit and asks for dirt about Ryan. Kelly says it's a little unnerving that he's so much younger than she is. Kel, it's called cradle-robbing and it's SO hot right now. Go with it. Brenda asks if "he" knows about Ryan and Kelly says no. Um, why should "he" play a role in her dating? The kid is 4 years old and he's traveling the world, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say she's free to do what she wants.
Outside, Naomi approaches Ethan and tries desperately to act upset (which doesn't work because she can't act) over how crazy her life is because of her family. Ethan says he's sorry but they're not together anymore, so find someone else to talk to.
Dixon pulls into the parking lot in the family van and knocks the mirror off a neighboring Porsche. I guess my first question would be why he bothered trying to back a minivan into a parking spot versus pulling in head on? Oh me and my silly logic, the CW is no place for that. The owner of the Porsche comes out and asks for Dixon's insurance information. Dixon asks if they can just figure it out between the two of them because he doesn't want his dad to find out. The guy tells him his dad is away on business for a couple of weeks, and he just needs the cash before he gets back. Phew, dodged that bullet! But how will our Dixon get the money for this? He may need to get a job. Now where in Beverly Hills could a new kid like Dixon get a job? If only there were some magical place where the gang oft went, perhaps named after a fruit...

I'm only watching this damn show for the old cast!
I told my husband that there was no way Brandon was the baby daddy because he would be involved in the kids life, I knew it had to be Dylan. He told me to stop acting like these are real people I am catching up with. I am mildly shamed. :)
To me Brenda & Dylan 4-ever! I want him to come back just to hook up with Brenda again.

Isabell's right, if Brandon was the father he'd make LA his home base and Sam would be with him whenever he was in town. And although Brandon and Kelly loved each other, they never had the kind of explosive chemistry that would produce a random night of passion. (I totally buy the Kelly/Dylan soulmate thing. I don't even need the Old West.)

I don't know, I am not buying Dylan as the absentee father either. With everything he went through with his parents and wanting to be part of a "family" for so long, I think he'd be more involved in the kid's life.
The Donna reference bugged me as well. Assuming Donna is still Kelly's "sister-in-law" wouldn't she know what's going on in her life? I took the convo to mean that Kelly hadn't seen her in a while either.
I also only watch this dreck for the old cast (sans Nat). Still hoping for a Dylan guest spot, if the show lasts that long.

Wellll, word on the street is that the current "old" cast members are a test to see how the audience responds to nostalgia. If all goes well, they will have more former cast mates on the show. Here's what I know so far:
Brenda is only signed on for a few episodes currently and then who knows.
Jason Priestley is in talks with the producers about potentially directing an episode, although I don't know if he'll actually be IN it.
Luke Perry has turned down offers to come back, and adamantly denies he'll be making a cameo...
That's as far as I've gotten, although I wouldn't be surprised is Zuckerman showed up, especially since they made a big show of her daughter going to the high school....
But then again, who knows? Minds can be changed, money can be offered, we shall see!

I LOVE your Arrested Development references! Lucille was sorely missed in last week's episode.
Every aerial shot of LA, especially the ones at night, look like they were lifted directly from The Hills. I'm sure the CW doesn't have the biggset budget (see: ANTM), but come on!
I thought Dixon hit Ty's car but after reading this it looks like it was just some other random kid. Guess these actors are completely interchangeable.
I think you need to advise the wardrobe department re: Brenda too. Everything she wore in this episode was completely unflattering and made her body shape just look WEIRD.
I've heard some gossip that the actress (I use that term loosely) that plays Annie is a complete diva/nightmare on the set to the cast/crew. Apparently she said something along the lines of "this is my show and everyone else is riding my coattails"...wtf?! It's been three mediocre episodes. Also heard the males were planning on staging an intervention with the leading ladies because of their weights, but Rebecca Katsopolis defended the girls and their fast metabolisms. I'm a little ashamed to have heard all this.... (but not really).
If, like me, you are still pining for the original and its classic opening song, go to youtube and enter "Colton and Aboud on 90210"...two of the guys from Best Week Ever doing a hilarious parody? impersonation? whatever? of the original theme. There's a Melrose Place one too for those who are so inclined.

So I am totally hoping Luke Perry comes back! I was always a Brenda Dylan fan and I want Brenda to snake him back again. I love the old cast and want to see more of them... now I need to ask this again... I thought at the end of the original series, wasn't Valerie the owner of the Pit after dark? If not, who was? I think Tori Spelling should stop acting like a spoiled brat and come back on the show, who else will pay her to be on tv?

Why should Shannen Doherty, who was on the original show less than half the time Tori Spelling was, be paid more? I for one hope Tori comes back to the show, because she's hilarious, but I completely understand why she didn't.
Oy. I just had a mini-marathon of the whole season so far. Is it just me or is Shenae Grimes (Annie) doing her best Anne Hathaway impression? And Naomi is like the love child of Fergie, Angelina Jolie, and Cordelia Chase. And I ain't buyin' that chick as a 15 year old. No. Freaking. Way.

HYPONOTOAD:
My guess? Shannen Doherty has more star power than Tori Spelling. More importantly, seeing the Brenda/Kelly reunion garnered a LOT of press, and therefore ratings. Frankly, she's worth a lot more to the show than Tori Spelling. Sucks for Tori but the truth hurts. People aren't interested in Tori the way they are Brenda. Her premature departure from the show left people wanting more.
