Well, Kandice and Dustin decided to do the hip-hop option, and I'm pretty sure they asked Sara Gilbert for directions to the club. Anyway, once they got there, they had to change into ridiculous hip-hop garb that probably would have been cool three years ago (hey, it's Ukraine, not Compton). Meanwhile, the models opted for Find the Music, which meant they had to don coat & tails as they searched for Tchaikovsky's Concert Fantasy for Piano and Orchestra. Needless to say, it was quite the improvement over the Ukranian hip-hop duds the beauty queens were forced into.

The second coming of Tatu!
Meanwhile, Kimberob managed to get to the old lady in the apartment building sans incident, and in a development that surely thrilled all viewers, they decided to flex their flowetry with the "Make The Music" option. Kimberly and Rob performing an original rap song? EXCELLENT. I imagined it would go something like "My name is Rob, and I'm here to say / [... silence... silence...] BABE!!! It's your line!!! YES IT IS!!! YES IT IS!!! BABE!!!!"
Out on the open road, the Cho brothers were leading the 'Bama girls back to Kiev, but not without stopping EVERY TWO MINUTES FOR DIRECTIONS. Finally, pushed to the limits of patience, the women decided it was time to do their own thang, and lo and behold, they drove off without waiting for the brothers! OMG! Someone didn't wait for someone else!!! Drama!!! And with that, Win/Win officially declared the six pack DEAD. Again, in a real world situation, Karlyn and Lyn's actions would have been obnoxious, but I'm really not sure I could totally blame them in this situation. If I had been in an alliance where one team was slowing everything down, I probably would have cut and run too. Then again, the best way to probably resolve it would have been for the moms to announce that they were going to lead the alliance instead. Either way, it's not worth getting into a tizzy about -- at least not here in the recap. Point is, the Chos suddenly found themselves on their own...
...At least until after the commercial break when the brothers quickly caught up to 'Bama and trailed them all the way to Kiev. This irrationally irked the women, who suddenly began complaining about Win/Win's inability to run their own race. Um, was it me, or had the girls been following the boys the entire past leg, let alone nearly the entire race? I was trying to chalk this all up to tricky editing, but man, was it hard. Still, even though the women were being ungrateful and downright bitchy, I still like them somewhat. I don't love them, but I feel like their snippiness doesn't come from a bad, shallow, or idiotic place (unlike Kimberob and the models). They just seem like two women who are exhausted and cranky and would rather be sitting on a couch eating a meal and watching Everybody Hates Chris. Moms just get cranky sometimes!
Anyway, over at the Detour, we cut back and forth between the models and the beauty queens at their various challenges. First, we saw the girls performing their rap song, which was horrendous and awesome all at once. Unfortunately, rather than let us revel in this spectacle, the producers quickly cut over to the Academy where Tyler and James were listening to a pianist play Tchaikovsky. I never knew it was possible to actually be annoying listeners, but these guys managed to do just that as they pretended to be conductors, waving their arms around like batons and grinning with self-satisfied glee. That's what I call music appreciation!
Well, both teams eventually completed their tasks, which meant it was time to head over to the Pit Stop at the Great Patriotic War Memorial. Glorious! Meanwhile, Kimberob followed some locals to the hip hop club, and on the way, Kimberly began penning her lyrics, prompting Rob to ask, "Are you gonna make it funny?" Hate to break it to you Rob, but no matter what you guys "spit," it's going to be hilarious.
Sure enough, Kimberob turned out to be just as craptastic as we had expected. The two seemed hard pressed to inject any sort of life into their performance, instead opting to stand there like two slabs of meat, reciting the rhymes with about as much enthusiasm as a postal worker at the holidays. On the upside, it was considerably better than Ja Rule. BOO-YA!!!

You gotta admit, Rob is not unlike K-Fed.

Thanks for the great recap, B-side. I fell victim to the curse of the NFL and only had a partial recording. Hmm..you'd think I'd know better by now.
I was a big fan of the Cho bros, but all of that stopping for directions sort of put me off. I hate to say it, but I'm throwing my allegiance to the blondies. I HATE the models and Lyn/Lyn annoy me a bit. And let's not even mention those other idiots. The blondies seem to have their act together, have great attitudes, and get along well.

I think the Chos confused running a nice race with running an aggressive race. You can do both, but I got the sense they forgot fast = $1 million.
Not surprisingly, I'm pulling for the hometown team, Karlyn and Lyn. Even if they've never finished a leg better than fourth place.

Damn it! Why did the Cho brothers have to get lost on the way to the hip hop club? I really wanted to see them rap! Could have been real hilarious....

I'm STILL pulling for the BQs. Once again they did things their way and stayed near the front. I get the feeling the finish was even closer than the broadcast indicated. If anyone can win it for the fair sex these two dynamos can. Funny that the male models are actually bitchier than them. Hee hee.
Hated to see the Chos lose, but they brought it on themselves. They never grasped the principle that they could have been better competitors and vie for the prize yet still be helpful and honorable. Their constant waiting for the others cost them scads of time and I think they might have won some legs and prizes if they had just run the race. This is where the blondes excel. They are smart, tough and independent.
Lyn/Lyn are bitter and bitchy. They should lighten up from time to time.
And, BTW, I have been to Ukraine twice. The natives pronounce the name of their capital city Kee-eev.
What can I say about Kimberob? They are petty, shallow, irascible, argumentative, mean-spirited and generally disliked. Can't wait for the ep when they get philiminated.
Speaking of our fearless host, I just subscribed to Men's Journal and found, to my delight, that Phil has been recently hired and writes an adventure site column and is quite the accomplished world adventurer. My respect for him is waaaay up now. I never knew that, because this is my first year watching AR.
I've found that in order for my DVR to ensure catching the entire show in spite of CBS NFL football I have to set it to record AR and then "Cold Case". You'll get a delayed start of AR and then watch the first 20 - 30 minutes of what would have been CC. Voila!
Can't wait for next Sunday and the further adventures of the Super Beauty Queens!

I didn't get to see the show but I heard tell there was a package. Was there?
Sorry that the Chos felt the need to speak to everyone along the way and ask them their opinion about where the Cho's should be going. Sheesh!
Don't care who wins - but I would like a screen cap of a package. At this point I will settle for a re-cycled screen cap from the Golden Days of PhilPacks.

Unfortunately, the Cho Bro's deserved to be eliminated due to their stupidity. But I can't stand the Alabama gals...listening to them bitch and moan about the Cho's asking for directions, all the while they are blindly following, drove me nuts.
Go Beauty Queens! They seem to be having a good time AND playing the game.
Regarding the 'Bama gal's rap...am I the only one who thought they looked like a grown-up version of Kriss-Kross?
Great recap... and yes, I belive there was a brief package shot.

YES! The package made a reappearance this episode, thank god. But shhhhhhhhh! Let's not talk about it lest my sweet Phil get embarrassed and start hiding it again.
Hello, Rosie? Where is the house and car and all the other gifts for the Chos, who were the truly good people on this race? I love Dave and Mary, but the Chos deserve some rewards too.

Hm, usually I love the recaps, but just seemed that a lot of the digs at the BQs, Models, and Kimberrob were a bit on the thin side, not much villain fodder from any of these "villain" teams, just face it. There was the atomic bomb remark, oh well, I've heard worse. As for the whole Kiev bidness, the ticket agent said "Keev" because actually they are changing over the spelling to Kyiv to better reflect the Ukrainian pronunciation, as Kiev is associated with the Russia language.

Couldn't decide whether I wanted the Chos or Bama gone , both teams were just truly painful to watch.

My mouth dropped open in utter shock at one of the Lyn's stating that they should hurry up and go or else the Cho's would want to follow them. Hellooooooo! Who's been following whom for how long now? How rude! Just proved what I said before: the 'Bama girls are Bitches!
GO BQs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did anyone else catch the Cho's on the Morning Show yesterday? They truely are as sweet and caring as they were on the race. They've even started their own charity.

I wasn't disappointed when Win/Win was eliminated though I've been rooting for them. As everyone else has already said they deserved to be eliminated. Not only did they wait for people but they also never hurried anywhere. SIGH. I've decided to root for either of the female teams since none has ever won TAR but I'm not that happy about it. I find Lyn/Lyn too bitchy and the BQs too perky. I need a female team who's more middle of the road. Oh well, as long as the winners aren't the models or Kimberob.
B-Side, great as the recap was, how could you forget a screencap of the elusive Philpackage?!?!?! It was there when he explained the roadblock. You screwed up, dude. But we love you anyway.

Can that black chick in the pink be any more bitchy? Then to have the nerve to say the Cho brothers cannot run their own race.
Here's to the blondes winning it all and being the first female/female team to win.

well, the cho brothers have given us quite a few head-slappers over the course of the season, but sunday was the worst. boys, boys, boys. patronizing the sweet southerners was charming for the first half of the race, but when you're running dead last, it's time to remember that you are IN A RACE. the bama moms were a little unfair to the chos with their comments (which, to their credit, they qualified with a few 'i hate to say it's in the interview segments), but they were completely right to ditch the boys when it was clear that they were too far behind to catch the other teams. i know the friendship was genuine, but the 'bama moms love their children more than two quirky asian guys they met on a game show.
yes, we could pull for the 'bama moms, but without the chos there to hold their hands, i don't see them outlasting the other three teams. sadly, we are now left with only two teams to root for, both of which are what you might call 'likable by default.' aside from their assorted run-ins with the six-pack (mostly the 'bama moms), the models and the BQ's have been relatively tolerable. i'm going with the BQ's, mostly because it's about time an all-girl team won the race, and they have earned it, running a strong, independent race: unlike last season's hippies, the BQ's haven't needed a game-saving twist like a yield or non-elimination round or a fast-forward. they've used the other teams where they could, but they've pretty much gone it alone. dustin kicking james' ass in the tank race was enough to win me over to the BQ cause. i don't hate the models, but they're sort of teamed up with kimberob, so that pretty much settles my allegiances.
of course, what i'm really rooting for is a bridge to fall on rob's head.

The bama moms were right to ditch the hapless Chos, but they were not right to be bitching about them following, and not "running their own race" the very next second. I also don't think they were right in that it doesn't seem they were entirely up front about how they understood the alliance to work. Even if there were enough clues to for the Chos to figure it out, seems they did take advantage of them, which is fair play, except they are quick to condemn the non 6-pack teams in the harshest terms. Hate 'em!
As for "likeable by default", loads of people just plain like the BQs. Period. And actually I kinda love Rob too (not so keen on Kim though). The models are innocuous enough but pretty meh for me.

My heart wants Bama to win because I know they need the money more than the others... but my head wants the BQs to win because they've been kicking ass and understand the concept of the race. I like how they said, "We don't have any friends." They know they don't have any alliances, so they don't have to depend on anyone nor do they owe any loyalty to the other teams.
As for the Junkie Models, glad to see a bit of personality peeking through in this episode. Although small, at least we were able to see more than just Blue Steel or Le Tigre. I can't help but feel a little remorse for Rob... getting punked by his girlfriend every step of the race has got to hurt down there. That creature from outerspace really knows how to hurt his feelings!

Love the initial screen cap...hilarious.
Rapping white people = ratings gold. Watching/hearing people rap who really can't is quite possibly the most hilarious thing ever.
The return of the PhilPackage was so very kind of Phil. Sad and dismayed that there wasn't a screencap.

I would like to see Kimberob get yielded. Can you imagine Rob's reaction?
"Babe- someone yielded us! Babe- what are we gonna do?
Babe- watch the sand in the hourglass. Babe- it's your fault the time's not going faster."
and so on...

I'm glad Win/Win got eliminated, even though they were nice guys. It was just so frustrating to see them constantly waiting for the other teams even if that meant they would fall into the back of the group.
Go beauty queens! I love their attitudes. I don't think they've ever really been upset or grouchy at all.

mangos, if you watch the videos on the Amazing Race site they've shown a few spats between the BQs. It's pretty inane stuff -- but they keep their creepy "I'm chipper" smiles in place the entire time. It's creepy.

I love the models, but that's because I'm a lecherous gay. My God, it's so nice having them to stare at, even though they say horrifically arrogant, stupid things.
