This Just In: Rob Is Not Jesus

I love you, Amazing Race. And I love this episode of you most of all. This show was you at your best, TAR. You gave us missed clues. You gave us near drownings. You gave us Mystery Men who let Shmirna sit on their laps. You gave us Little People working with Phil to get our teams checked in at the Pit Stop. And you gave us fish being squished into boobs. You gave more than we ever knew that we wanted.

This episode opens with Romber. They want us to believe that this is because Romber was the first team to arrive last episode, and thus the first to leave this episode. But Romber is featured so much that I'm beginning to think that this season should be called The Amazing Race All Romber Edition. After all, when we're not seeing footage of Romber themselves, we're seeing footage of other teams wondering where Romber is. At least when GSN starts the Romber network, they'll have lots of footage to pull from. (TVGasm Educational Update: Does everyone know that GSN is airing all the old seasons of TAR? I believe they're in Season Five right now. Set your Tivos. Now back to our regular recap.)

TARAS%20Phil.JPG

Romber opens their clue, and we learn that the teams must drive four miles to the town of San Pedro de Atacama, Chilly. There, they must find the church of San Pedro de Atacama, where they'll find their next clue.

Really, TAR, that's the best you can do? Driving four miles? Were you not able to get a location agreement for the house next door? I know that Drew probably would have slipped 20 times as he strolled over at a snail's pace, but he's gone now, and these people are supposed to be All Stars! I think the best TAR players of all time deserve more, and we as an audience sure as heck deserve more.

Before they take off, Rob announces that he is "not real concerned with what everyone else is doing." And also that Romber doesn't care if the other racers like them. I know I'm a little obsessed with this point, but for someone who insists over and over that he doesn't care about the other teams, Rob spends an awful lot of time talking about the other teams. At least the other teams are honest that they are obsessed with beating Romber. One of my main hopes for this season is for Rob to admit that he's super competitive and he really does want to beat the other teams. My other main hope: For Danielle to find a place to touch up her roots.

How easy is this step of the race? Well, by the time Team Cha Cha Cha (the 2nd team is leave) is opening their clue, Romber has already traversed the difficult four mile route, found the church and opened another clue. They now must fly 800 miles to Puerto Montt, Chilly. There, they must choose a car and drive themselves thirty miles to Metri, Chilly.

Romber immediately sets to work on finding an internet connection to book some flights. Meanwhile, Team Guido has opened the first clue and is heading off for the church. But not before noting that Chilly has really good wine and that they'd like to stop for a nice glass of chardonnay.

And this is where I thought: "Maybe they should do just that. Maybe all the teams should do just that." Let's think about it. It is a scientific fact that when you're drunk you become 84% smarter, funnier and better looking. So why wouldn't you want to run the Race that way?

But I can't spend too much time wondering what Shmirna would be like drunk, because we get some awesome footage of Eric reading the clue and then walking off camera while saying "Peace out, Cub Scout." Is that a real phrase? Do people actually say "Peace out, Cub Scout"?! And do they say it without laughing? Because I'm pretty sure that I'm going to start saying it a lot because a) I love things that rhyme and b) it's awesome, but I'm also pretty sure that every time I will say it, it will make me laugh.

As they're walking away, Eric continues to peruse the clue. This is confusing to Danielle, who wonders how Eric can read and walk at the same time. Did anyone else suspect that Danielle might have made a better teammate for Drew, who wouldn't have tried something so outrageous? Other things that confuse Danielle: Mimes (moving without talking?!), ventriloquists (talking without talking?!) and Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo (how could a movie that good go unnoticed?!)

As much as everyone hates Rob and Amber you have to admit they are good. I don't know if anyone is watching the times but they are leaving a good hour before most of the teams. They are truly one of the best.

Ash [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Good recap... but I wanted to make sure spelling CHILE, Chilly, was on purpose. I thought maybe I missed that in the last recap or something! :)

I don't really care that Kentucky was eliminated, and I also can't help but like Rob and Amber. I liked them both on Survivor and it's not their fault they are better than the other teams (although that doesn't mean CBS can't let them go after this).

Dugg [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I think that this reason is starting to suck is that the producers didn't real get the best teams, they got the most interesting. So who really is the main competition for Romber?

I would have like to have seen them compete against the strongest TAR teams not these.

hardlyworking [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Am I the only one who thought it was strange that none of teams chose to do the rock climbing? I got the impression that the rock climbing was near the area were they read their clues. But yet, every team chose to do the river rafting...did I miss something??

YankeesFan [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I think from past experience all of the teams realized that climbing a wall is a lot harder and more time consuming than it looks.

Have to agree with there being no real competition. The producers did a pretty poor job of picking teams. I wonder if they asked a lot of the other teams and they said no.

I thought the recap was great and really funny. Love the shmirna screencaps :)

Ms. Tumnus [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Loved the screencaps, I share your love of DannO but dude, it's Chile not Chily.

PixieGal [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Yea....Chile. Took me completely out of the recap with this "Chilly" nonsense.

TWilliams [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I will third or fourth the Chile reference. It is Chile and the "chilly in Chile" comment by a racer last week wasn't even funny.

I have to say I love the Beauty Queens. Before anybody bashes that I have to say I think they are one of the few teams not Romber-obsessed and that is reason enough to love them.

I think Rob talking about the other teams doesn't really count because he is REALLY only talking about himself in comparison to them. If he ever said something about another team without himself or Amber being in the same sentence, then I would say he thinks about others too much. At this point, I'd say "not so much." It is still all about him.

LOVED LOVED LOVED the picture of Charla's bugging eyes on the raft.

TWilliams [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Oh -- one more comment.

Did anybody else find it odd that after the BQs said they teamed up with Terri and Ian because he was "good with directions," they (the BQs) led?!? WTF.

LongHairedMan [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Hi!

Does anyone know where I can read a funny recap for TARAS? One where Chile is spelled Chile?

PS, TWOP sucks.

KatiesHole [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I guess the Kentucy pair can go back on 'The View' and Rosie can give them even more gifts...maybe a vacation home this time....being naive on TV has a price: a new house, car, all kinds of shit....

Ian and Terri have got to be 2 of the ugliest, most hideous people ever to be on a reality show. Talk about the gruesome twosome. Ick.

KH

TWilliams [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Maybe Team Kentucky could get sent to college -- that could be a reality show all in itself!

LongHairedMan -- have you tried a Google search on EdHill or anything?

jay [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Give awesome a break. The recaps are semi-funny, but we're used to some of the best on here. Caption the screen grabs and look for Phil-packages, and you'll satisfy the natives (well, and be funnier, but, you're trying!).

As for the complaints about no competition for Rob and Amber, they did this pretty much when they ran the first time and Uchenna and Joyce (remember them?) still managed to beat them. Now, I do agree that some of the back-pack teams (Schmirna, John Vito/Jill, Kentucky) should not have been invited, but all of the others were top four teams. I think Joyce/U will still challenge them, and Eric and Danielle may prove competitive, and I always liked the BQ's, so, those are 3 teams that can challenge.

I liked KY, but, let's face it, after the endless non-philimination legs last time, they needed to go. Talk about wearing out your 15 minutes!

Now, let's rid ourselves of Schmirna, and the guido's and I'd be able to watch the race without puking.

TWilliams [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I, too, think there are some worthy teams on the race. Of course some of the best are MIA (first on my list are Kris & Jon); but they probably had real jobs and couldn't get another leave of absence for another shot at reality stardom. Seriously -- could any of us get off this much time from OUR jobs?!?

Some of these teams just haven't peaked yet. The BQs didn't finish at the front of the pack early in the race. Uchenna and Joyce had some less-than stellar legs (until she shaved her head). Teri and Ian and Eric were all runners-up. Danny & Oswald were and are consistent. I think it is unfair to slam all of these participants as mediocre.

Lets also not forget that Rob and Amber had no competition for the first two legs because they both inexplicably appeared at the Pit Stop hours before any of the other teams. How convenient was it in episode one that they made it out of the airport before everyone else and were halfway to the detour before any other teams found a taxi cab. They searched a field for a good thirty minutes and finished the OTHER task before team #2 even got there -- and they only had to drive some 60 miles! No team is that good. They were too good and I am NOT buying into it.

They'll have some competition soon and I wouldn't be surprised to see this Dyanamic Duo stumble in the next couple of legs. Hopefully they'll be gone before we know it.

TinkerbellAPixie [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I was actually pleasantly surprised by this recap.

I have to add to Jay's advice for "Awesomeness" - you definitely want to find screenshots of the PhilPackage, if the PhilPackage is not shown we will take the PhilBackside or PhilChest. Also, feel free to come on down to the comments and talk among the people. We like it when our recappers mix and mingle with us.

:)

Zharak [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I think the TARAS recaps are pretty good. They don't even compared to some of the other shows on this site.

eellsinoc [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Seriously? Wednesday? Am I the only one that is going to comalain about the long wait for this recap? I mean this is - IMO - the reality show of ALL reality shows...show some respect!!!

schoonie [TypeKey Profile Page]:

"Am I the only one who thought it was strange that none of teams chose to do the rock climbing?"

Actually, two teams tried the rock climbing, but changed their minds. If you go to the CBS site, you can see the photos of Uchenna and Joyce trying it.

eellsinoc [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Okay I think I was on drugs or something...I meant to say...

Seriously? Friday?...

et al...

Awesomeness [TypeKey Profile Page]:

OK, OK, I get it. You guys didn't find the Chilly thing funny. Luckily for all involved, our racers will probably be moving next week and everyone can pretend it never happened!

As to the rest of it, let's ask ourselves WWB-SD? (What Would B-Side DO?) and I think, if B-Side were here, he'd ask us all just to get along.

Kisses!

LongHairedMan [TypeKey Profile Page]:

awesomeness, thank you for the kisses and thank you for the effort.

Some free advice: Pretend the intenional misspelling of Chile was a mistake, because admitting it was an attempt at humor is actually more embarrassing. The LWW_DJ(Lame What would so-and-so do joke) is played out.

TWilliams - googling EdHill gets me nowhere but that Fox news lady or back to here. However, I know where you were talking about but I see TVGASM has blocked references to that site.

awesomeness AND TWilliams - that site actually seems to be the answer to BOTH your questions, since it appears B-Side has moved over to there with all the other old TVGASM recappers!

So now I'm happy. Goodbye TVGASM!

mistichristi [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I think everyone needs to give Awesomeness a break on the Chile/Chilly thing. Get over it people!! This recap is hilarious! The screencaps were laugh out loud funny and so was the whole thing. Great job Awesomeness, I look forward to reading more of your recaps. Long Live TVGasm!!!!!!!!!!!

aholic [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Awesomeness - I think you did a great job.

LongHairedMan - See ya!

626 [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Silly me, the "Chilly" referrence reminded me of last week's (awesome) recap and made me laugh out loud all over again. Just because some of you didn't get the joke is no reason to slam Awesomeness about it.

Loved the recap. Keep up the awesome work!

WDWBelle [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I thought this recap was great, and I was lol'ing throughout. Team Crazypants is the perfect name for Myrna and Shmirna.. those two are one french fry short of a happy meal. Also, Ian is creepy. I think the BQ's are playing a great game.. staying calm and quickly figuring out where their mistake was. Mary is too mean to David-good riddance. Awesomeness- that comment on David smiling about Mary drowning was hilarious! Keep up the good work.

CSIS [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Great recap, though I definitely could use some PhilPackages.

The midget screencaps kill me(in a good way).

LongHairedMan-cut your mullet and go Sh*t on someone else's parade.

TWilliams [TypeKey Profile Page]:

If you get tired of calling them Team Crazypants, I think the Crazy Bitches would work just as well. What horrible people -- I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt; but I no longer can.

I watched David and Mary's exit interview on the CBS website and Mary said they were given like $487 for one leg of the race -- a figure that is rather large in my opinion. I don't ever recall that amount of money being given for any leg on ANY of the past races. Mary said that she realized she did NOT like the Crazy Bitches because of the people they were -- NOT because they passed her on the road. Mary said Charla and Mirna were asking people on the plane for money and saying they were hungry and had none. Mary was disgusted with their antics and I am too after hearing about them. They are bossy, bitchy, pushy, rude, elitist and ugly.

I enjoyed their bitchiness and wild-ways in episode 1; but since then ...

I wonder how many more unfortunate people these women will horrify/terrorize in the upcoming legs of the race. Let's hope they are gone tonight.

aholic [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I am so glad you mentioned that crazy happy look Dave gave after Mary talked about falling out of the raft meant dying to her. I had to watch it like three times, it was so funny.

I think he might be getting REALLY tired of being yelled at.

moxy [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Awesomeness..
Rob Damn it! This was a funny recap. Great job and thanks for all your hard work. I am a huge fan.

Awesomeness [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Thanks for the feedback, guys.

I fear that I'll be so distracted keeping my eyes out for PhilPackages for you guys tonight that I might miss all the action... So be warned, this next recap may contain ONLY PhilPackages!!

skurk [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I love Rob & Amber. Everyone thinks that they should not be allowed to play, but I enjoy watching them. He is always kind to Amber, doesn't make rude comments about her boobs (like Eric)
Rock on Amber & Rob....

hardlyworking [TypeKey Profile Page]:

skurk - I have to agree with you...Alot of people don`t like Rob because of his "win at any cost" attitude. But through it all, he does remain very nice to Amber. They are probably one of the only couples to appear on TAR that does not have any full blown fights. Even if they will lie, steal and cheat with the other teams, they always manage get along with each other.

These teams that spend all their time shouting and screaming at each other(I`m looking at you, Team CrazyPants!) just get on my nerves. Is all that drama really necessary?
