In honor of Rock Night, I have a bottle of tequila, lines of crushed up TrimSpa, and a Sharpie tattoo shaped like a heart with a knife in it on my upper thigh. Over doing it a little? Maybe, but the sugar and holy glow from last week pushed me over the edge, and Rock Night gives me an excuse to sin again. I throw a couple back and warm up with a little Guitar Hero until the downstairs neighbor hits her ceiling with a broom. Any normal day I would have yelled "sorry!", but tonight I'm not taking it. I go into the kitchen and bring back pots and pans to drop on the floor. I hear her baby screaming. My job is done here. This ain't a nursery, breeder biatch. This! Is American Idol!
Tink starts off the show by thanking us. The telethon raised seventy million bucks for the needy all over the world. Yay, America! Thank God that's over. There was a smile on my face all day today. I drank at noon, prank called my Meemaw, and threw my cigarette into a water fountain. Ah, it's good to be back.
As if they are publicly acknowledging a return to the abuse and psychological violence that is AI, the producers cut to Antonella Barba and then to Glocksen clapping in the audience. They both look much less stressed out now that they're not in the public eye so much with everyone making fun of them. Wait a second. Glocksen's covered her real eyebrow and painted on a new one that goes way high, like Speed Racer. She looks like a drag queen I once knew named Mindy. Aw. I loved her.
Tink is also noticeably more relaxed tonight. He's ditched the bloody tie and hit up a tanning bed. Woah. So has Simon. Is something going on?
Anyway, everyone's taken the sticks out of their asses and now we can relax. Church is over, bitches. Tink shows us clips of Bon Jovi and I scream like a school girl. Then I rewind and cackle away. The 80's have tried to come back in the past few years, but we can never fully commit to it's resurgence, and Bon Jovi is one of the reasons why.
Jon Bon Jovi is the guest mentor tonight, and he's brought along David Bryan, the keyboardist from Bon Jovi.
Jon Bon looks better with age and has that easy going vibe that made him a stah. His hair looks good and way too full. Is that a wig? I want one! David sits at the piano with his head down. He looks like the Muppet that was always too wasted to come on screen. Jon Bon tells the kids that they need to take his songs and make them their own. Powder looks confused and Jordin throws her head back and does her Julia Roberts laugh. Stop posing and listen to Jon Bon, Spanx!
Powder's up first with "Blaze of Glory" from Young Guns. Jon Bon is impressed with him, and can tell he's sung the song before. Powder says he was that kid who stood in front of the mirror and sang this song into a comb.
Powder seems like a nice person and I want to like him, but he just won't let me. He couldn't find a Bon Jovi country song so he picked something from a cowboy movie and wore an embroidered hick jacket. Oy. His voice sounds great. Bon Jovi said he knocked it out of the park vocally, and he was right. If you close your eyes, this performance was really good, but as I watch him run around the stage and the audience, fist bump Randy, and spew the old "point and wink" all over the crowd, I feel acid in my stomach. Get that finger out of my face before I snap it off, Powder!
Randy says he loved it because of course, he recorded the original version with Bon Jovi. He calls it Powder's best performance other than Country Night. Paula says it's the best opening they've had all season that she can remember. Simon says it was just ok and that he seemed like a bad actor playing a role. If this was an audition for a rock star Powder would have failed, and Simon doesn't think he's done enough to stay for another week. Thank God. The bitch is back.
Powder, sweating profusely, says he still loves Simon and appreciates the Judges because they're not the ones keeping him there, the voters are. Damn free elections. It's all this lady's fault.

Great recap flipit, and fast! I gotta disagree with you on Blake and M-Doo. Blake's performance, basically deconstructing a well known rock anthem, was pretty ballsy. Not my cup of tea, but I think all the little girls who pick up the phone and vote dug it. I liked Melinda's performance as well and didn't find it boring at all. Jordin was terrible but she has the benefit of last week's votes as well so she has nothing to worry about. I think it's Lakisha and Chris leaving tonight, but at least they'll both go out on a high note (no pun intended) since they both did pretty well last night.

Great recap Flipit!
I have to say, I've never been a big Blake fan but I thought he killed it last night. It was one of the most interesting and authentic things I've seen on AI. I also love the fact that he waited to this point in the competition to pull that out. He's playing this thing very smart. My husband hated it though so I agree w/Simon about half of america loving it and half hating it.
Also, Melinda has bugged me from the start but the girl can SING! I've said it before, if she won she'd be a tough idol to market.
Jordin happens to be my favorite for the best option to actually be an idol this year. I'm pretty sure w/last weeks song and the pity votes she'll get from Tink making her cry will put her at the top.
Chris can go. He offers nothing.

I normally agree with you, but I did really like Blake's performance last night. Yes the hair was bad, but at least he didn't wear an argyle sweater! I normally love Jordin and she is my favorite, but she was terrible last night as was Chris. Daughtry not only sang that song last year, but recorded it...and no Chris, no one HAD to sing it... I don't know who will go home tonight. I would like Phil & Chris to go, but I am sure Phil will be around next week.

I thought Blake's performance was great! I was skeptical at first but he committed to it and finished strong. I'm ready to see Chris GO. He does nothing for me. Bland, bland, bland. Jordan's meltdown was a surprise. I've been pulling for her. I was glad to see Kiki do well but I'm not sure it's enough to keep her around. I like Phil and would like to see him stay around because he seems like a decent person, but I think his days are numbered. Melinda rocked it, especially in a genre that's out of her comfort zone.
Love the screencap of the Laura and GW!!!

I geniunely like all of the contestants left, but I'm thinking Chris and Lakisha will be out tonight. I absolutely loved Blake's version. He made it comtempory, but you could still sing along to the chorus. I think he's refreshing and you never know what he's going to do. The rest of the contestants are just good singers, but to me he is a good artist. Constantly taking risks, trying to make things his own and performing to the best of his ability. I'd love to see him make it to the final 2 or 3 (with Melnda!)

I am worried... I voted for Kiki 32 times and very seldom (6) got a busy signal. I have not voted this season at all..... but felt after her great singing last night she deserved and having to kiss Simon she deserves to come back..... And I must say that kiss surprised the hell otta me...... Has Simon EVER done that before???
Flipit, you are becoming a pro at this recap stuff.... faster than the speed of light, more powerful than a steam locomotive, able to jump on the next available dude in a single bound.... Priceless baby-- they need to pay you--- more.

I loved Blake's version! My vote would be to record it and make it a single- what a FUN remix to dance to! It was awesome! I was impressed by MindyDoo as well- she totally sold her bad self as a rocker. She owned that song. Speaking of owning songs...Lakisha was unbelievable. Damn girl...go! Another performance that should be released as a single. Who would've thought Bon Jovi is an AI blessing in disguise?

I thought Blake was great -as well as Phil.
I thought Melinda was awful and thanks for noting the annoying growling sound she was making...not good.
I am afraid to say it because I love Chris, but I think he will be gone as well as Lakisha (love her too.)
And there is no way Blake will go - his numbers are crazy if you check DialIdol and everyone here in my neck of the woods (Oregon)(radio, tv, etc.) is carrying on about his Bon Jon rendition...they loved it.

Oh forgot to say...
Dear AI,
Please do not keep pushing this idiot president on me...I am not that dumb...I am not a republican. It is insulting to see him on there pandering to the young crowd. As if he hasn't embarassed this country enough. Stop it already.

I'm used to disagreeing with Flipit so I'm glad to see the majority of comments (and 95% of the articles I've read online) loved Blake's performance. He was incredible, but that didn't surprise me. I expected him to do well with Bon Jovi. The two surprises for me were Jordin doing so poorly and Melinda actually performing and entertaining, instead of just singing. She has a great voice but last night was the first time I thought she could entertain.
With 70mil votes last week, it's hard to say who's going home other than Chris. One off night shouldn't worry Jordin, Melinda and Blake gotta be safe, so that leaves Lakisha and Phil. Both deserve final four after last night. Based on overall performances, it would be better if Phil goes now but I have a feeling it's going to be LaKisha.

All the little girls + Pegster dug out their phones and called for Blake. I'm embarassed to say I pretty much kept redialing until I went to bed.
flipit, don't be dissing my boy! How could you? You will NOT be officiating the Blake/Pegster nuptials. So there.

Nice recap. I have to disagree about Blake and Melinda, too, though. I liked Blake's the most last night, maybe especially since I never heard the song before. Plus, I thought he looked cuter last night. I liked Melinda's more than LaKisha's.
"Dead Or Alive" was not a good choice of song on Chris's part. I hated it when trite Chris sang it last year and I felt sorry for trying-to-hang-in-there Chris sang it last night. The video game series is much more entertaining. Jordin did badly, but she's safe enough, I think. Phil is made of such cheese that I just cannot like him at all. VFTW picked him after Sanjaya got the boot as I had guessed. He'll probably be safe though.
My guesses are Chris and LaKisha unfortunately.

UGH - the Blake fanboy posting is about more than I can handle.
He is such an unemotive douche. He looked horrible, he sounded horrible, and I can't believe people are buying into his Justin Timberlake v.2 persona. Icky.
That said, I think LaKisha may be going tonight, which is too bad because she's a FAR better singer than everyone there except maybe Melinda.
I think Chris and LaKisha are hittin the road.

So, check it out, check it out, check it out , check it out. Ok Randy, we hear you!
Flipit, you give recap a good name.
I'm not that fond of Blake, but I appreciate that he didn't perform a cookie cutter rendition of the song. I really need to see Powder go. Like 3 weeks ago. Take the Prez with him.
Love you.

Blake sucked, End of story. After Chris he was the worst of the night. He was beatboxing to cover up the fact that he could not sing the song. In practice you could hear the trouble he was having singing it. The both of them need to go tonight.

OK, "Powder Point Presentation" was priceless ... nearly spewed up my drink!
I have to admit, I really liked Blake. He's doing what few other contestants have ever done (well, from season 3 on, since I didn't watch seasons 1 or 2): he takes a chance and creates new arrangements for songs. He's probably the bravest Idol contestant we've seen.
Loved Melinda's performance. I personally think she really sold the song. And she doesn't break character at the end of the song -- most of the contestants are singing something tragic and as the lights go down, they smile like a baby who just farted. Melinda keeps it going on for the just the right amount of time.

Awww, Flipit, I'm kinda scared you love me. Are you like a Sanjaya stalker?
I take solace that the vast majority of online comments/articles today loved Blake. But if we are all wrong and he goes home tonight, at least I'll get my Tuesdays and Wednesdays back. I know he has some work to do to win, but he deserves Final Four more than LaKisha, Phil, or Chris. (and Jordin after last night)
I'm a 42 year old gay Blake lover. (and so is my husband, though he favors Jordin a little more...)

George Bush will do anything to attempt to brainwash this country. I was absolutely horrified to see him here.
By the way, how bad does BonJovi look? Yikes, he has his hair to hide the face lift scars. Any more upward face pulling, and he becomes Asian.
I am also not into Blake's various noises. Just sing, dude.

KH, Jon Bon Jovi still looks HOT for over 40. It's not impossible, you know. I'm another example of over 40, no wrinkles naturally.
Not everyone is as prematurely aged as Flipit. :-) (karma)

BTW, Flip It, Have a Nice Day was hardly an obscure song. I probably heard it about 900 times, and saw the video an additional 600 times. And I never listen to the radio, and rarely watch MTV.

Way late on this one, but gotta say....
BLAKE SUCKS. He's not that "INNOVATIVE". He cannot sing and isn't especially great beat boxing. He barely makes an expression while performing. Overall he's BORING. His time should be up and hopefully is next week.

Flipit you cheap whore. You sell your vote out for a pretty (and that's questionable) face?
Blake really is the Emperor's New Clothes. I agree that if the singing is average he really should be the best fuckin' beatboxer ever. Apparently the best beatboxer in Seattle is akin to being the fattest person in Somalia.

1.) I'm sorry, but anybody that doesn't like Blake is a giant douche. You all probably secretly love Phil.
2.) Anybody that likes Lakisha is a racist. Or gay.
3.) Anybody that likes Phil...see point 1. And blow your brains out.
Do I have any reasons for the above? Nope.
I'm so over Melinda. Chris is mediocre. Not sure what to say about Jordin though.
