UPDATE- Don't Call Just Yet -
by madeyoulaugh
Ever get the feeling American Idol is phoning things in this season? Well, we do, especially now that the exclusive TVgasm insider at the Fox network has revealed that tonight's supposed live episode aired on the East Coast with WRONG PHONE NUMBERS. We don't know how it happened since they had the full 24 hours to edit the mistakes, having been taped Monday night. Fox will re-air a corrected version of tonight's episode on the East Coast on Wednesday 3/23. The live results show to will now air on Thursday nationally.
So beware, East Coasters. That vote for Bo Bice might actually be a pledge for Constantine. NOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Kudos to Fox in their never-ending quest to turn Rupert's network into 20th Century Seacrest.
madeyoulaugh....out!
UPDATE - DETAILS OF THE EAST COAST BLUNDER AFTER THE JUMP
From Reality TV Magazine by way of our good friends at Reality Blurred here are the details of tonights AI IQ Error.
- The number for Mikalah was supposed to be 1-866-43657-09 but the text on the bottom of the screen showed 1-866-43657-01 (which is the number for Anthony Fedorov).
- For Anwar Robinson the screen text at the bottom showed 1-866-43657-02 (which is the number for Carrie Underwood). Anwar's correct number should have been 1-866-43657-10.
- Finally, for Jessica Sierra the screen text at the bottom showed 1-866-43657-03 (which is the number for Scott Savol). Jessica's correct number should have been 1-866-43657-11.
UPDATE II: Fox now has their explanation on the American Idol Website:
If you woke up this morning, you found out about the news from your local radio station or newspaper. If you read TVgasm before you went to bed, you would have already known. We work hard for our readers. Thankfully, our friends at MSNBC had the good sense to give credit where it was due.

MYL, did you just scoop Drudge? I feel like he would be all over this thing. I wonder what they're going to do to amend things...

Hmm, I wonder which one of those Pat O'Brien was trying to call?

Taped on Monday? I thought everything was 'live'

Too bad I can usually never get through anyway - the lines are always busy and I do not have the X to text.

Ed, I think only the results show is live.
Wait, hahaha I have a Coke/American Idol ad right next to this comment box. Fabulous!

This just really sucks. It really makes you wonder how rigged American Idol is??????

This makes the whole season tainted and the ultimate outcome will always be in question if they re-do the vote. The only fair way would be for no one to be voted off this week, and then next week have the bottom 2 vote getters eliminated.eleninated.. Oh, and go vote for Makalah no matter what!

I thought it was odd that the numbers on screen didn't match up...seems like a blatant attempt by Fox to squeeze another night out of Idol. Will the contestant numbers be the same as last night, or do we have to sit through an hour of filler to get the correct numbers?

I know this has nothing to do with today's AI post, but I have a very relaible source that told me Mario Vasquez signed with P. Diddy...
...AND came out of the closet. Apparently he has a boyfriend and everything.
You heard it here first!

I feel they should not eliminate anyone and next week eliminate the 2 bottom vote getters. Many American Idol fans are people who are available on Tuesday night to watch the show and then to vote for their favorite. Many of those same people may not be available to cast their vote on a different night. They are handling it totally wrong, in my opinion.

Great show and we should be very proud of our young performers. They should all stay this week.Start fresh next week.

No matter when they take the vote, it is time for Mikalah and Constantine to go home. I could also handle losing a few of the others, but if Mikalah and Constantine go, I will be much happier about this season's talent level.

Oh my! I can't believe I voted 50 times for Anthony last night! Yuck!
Posted by: Jick | March 23, 2005 1:10 PM(#14 of 28)
I just cant believe you voted 50 times period.
Posted by: madeyoulaugh | March 23, 2005 1:51 PM(#15 of 28)
Hey it good that you voted for him. He lives 10, maybe 15 feet from me. (I really don't want to measure from my front door to his.) I want him to be famuous and then move out. Else, little kids are going to start coming by to take pitcures of his childhood apartment...
But on 2nd thought, maybe I can be as cool as the TVgasm staff and take pictures of him on my cell phone!! =p

No, not everything is "live" - only the shows that specifically say "live". They try to give the impression everything is live, and they tape it as if it were live, but due to time constraints (and Nikko's four attempts to get it right last week), there is some editing done to the Tuesday night shows. Only Wednesday is "live" (with a delay, of course).

i had no idea it wasn't live! And who broke the news first? tvgasm? and who gave a shout out to tvgasm?

When I turned on 'Entertainment Tonight' today they said they were going to begin with news that shocked Hollywood. I thought a famous celebrity had died but no, they were just taking about the American Idol voting debacle. Fantasia won last year so I am thinking it is a good thing there is something wrong with the voting system. Her voice hurts my ears.

Mar,
I can safely say were were the first to break the story about both the wrong phone numbers and FOX's intentions to reair a competition night and delay a results show til thursday.
Initially we were given a shout out of cred from MSNBC but then at about Noon today they changed their online article removing any mention of TVGasm.
Frustrating, true. But as long as other places arent claiming to have had the news first, I dont mind not getting the credit for it. As soon as someone else busts out with "We were the first to break this" thats when I and TVGasm community goes nuts. Dont believe me? just ask THE DC SOCIALITES.

The show will be live next week on tuesday and wednesday, they used tape episodes for the top 12 & 11 because they wanted to make sure they could fit the show in one hour.
Posted by: C | March 23, 2005 5:52 PM(#21 of 28)
The phone company is going to rake in $$$ with an extra night of text messaging.
It's too bad that MSNBC didn't keep a mention to TVGasm, and give credit to TVGasm where credit was due.

I feel like the real scandal was Carrie's hair- http://cdn-startpage.aol.com/aoldotcom/idolsplit200djr.jpg I was a Carrie fan, but now I hope she gets voted off based on that. It is so horrifying. It is ALMOST as bad as Jessica Lynch's bangs.
Posted by: Catie | March 24, 2005 10:09 AM(#23 of 28)
Voting on Wednesday night didn't really go very smooth. My AT&T/Cingular phone quit working after the first hour of voting but was just fine this morning.
Please don't let Constantine go home. He is the only reason I watch. We really need a HUNK after the past two years of duds winning.
Posted by: Pat | March 24, 2005 11:32 AM(#24 of 28)
I hope you are kidding about Constantine being a hunk. He makes me throw up a little in my mouth everytime I see him. Especially because he looks like a dirty hobo extra from 90210. Like a friend of Donna's ex-boyfriend, Ray. So gross.
Posted by: Catie | March 24, 2005 11:38 AM(#25 of 28)
Catie- you are right on the money! Wasn't that pink chiffon scarf nasty? He is the grossest! He had too much make-up on or plucked his eyebrows too much; I don't know what it was, but he was extra discusting this week (and that painful performance aired twice!) I had to leave the room.
Posted by: Kelley | March 24, 2005 12:04 PM(#26 of 28)
I hope soon this doleful attempt at the "reality" show gendre will soon become AMERICAN IDLE! I watched it 2 times and the last one was SO BAD I almost ran from the room screaming!
