America's Best Dance Crew: Top Ten Performances and Season Four Preview

Yo yo yo! So check it out, dawg. This here's a little preview special for season four of America's Best Dance Crew. Randy Jackson has put together clips from the first three seasons and made a list of his top ten performances of all time. But don't let that fool you. The real purpose of this show is to make sure you know that ABDC has moved to a new day and time: Sundays at 9pm. The premiere is Sunday, August 9th. At 9pm. On Sunday. The 9th. Got that? If you didn't, don't worry, Randy will remind you about five thousand more times in the next hour.

See?

So for those of you that aren't really crazy about Randy Jackson (me!) take comfort in the fact that after this show you probably won't see him again until the finale when he hands over the trophy to the newest winners. Unfortunately he is hosting this episode, so we get to see way too much of him.

ABDC20090802b

Already this is too much for me.

Randy tells us he's seen a lot of amazing performances over the past three seasons of America's Best Dance Crew (airing Sundays at 9pm), and tonight we're going to take a look back at the hottest performances EVER. Disclaimer: Randy has picked these performances. These top ten performances are in no way reflective of what anyone else on the face of the earth thinks. Randy did not seek nor did he get any input when compiling this list.

Number ten on the countdown is Super Cr3w. Get used to names being spelled really stupidly. It's just how they roll on this show. I find it interesting that the season two winner of the show comes in at number ten and is never heard from again on this list. Personally, I thought a different crew (or Cr3w) should have won that season, but America didn't agree with me. We are often at odds like that.

ABDC20090802c

It looks like we're also going to be treated to commentary from the judges during this top ten episode. Oh! And for all of you out there who have wondered what Mario thought about the performances, we get to hear from him too. You know who is notably missing from this "special"? SHANE SPARKS. I could give a rat's ass about what Lil Mama or JC Chavez think about these numbers. I would have loved to hear what Shane had to say. Where are you Shane???

Hanging with Kayleigh

Hmmm. I guess it wasn't in his contract that he had to be present for this.

Randy's number nine pick is Fanny Pak dancing to "Get Ur Freak On" by Missy Elliot. I loved this dance; they were really freaky and at one point acted like they were rubbing blood on their faces. ♪♫ Awesome.♫♪

ABDC20090802e

I also loved this other performance by them.

ABDC20090802f

In case you forgot when it starts.

The number eight performance is coming to us from Break Sk8. They made it all the way to the top four in season one, although I have to admit I was never as crazy about them as other people were. Sure, it was cool that they "danced" on roller skates, but I got over it after a while. I'm a fickle bitch, what can I say?

ABDC20090802g

Randy tells us that Break Sk8 wasn't the only crew to blow his mind with their distinctive style, there was another crew that was very unique: Dynamic Edition. For those of you that watch So You Think You Can Dance, you may remember Brandon Norris, the clogger who liked to add some hip hop flavor into his routines that auditioned for season three of the show.

ABDC20090802h

I liked them. They were dorky but cute. Very white bread trying to be hip, but they did TRY. They were also always together.  JC Chasez pops up to tell us he thinks they were the cleanest group they've ever had on the show, and I think he's right.

ABDC20090802i

Write that down because I almost never agree with him.

After Randy reminds us AGAIN about their new night and time, we take a brief commercial break.

ABDC20090802j

Does anyone else find this commercial disturbing? What is she shaved her pubes off? Would it just be a bare bush with branches or what?? These are the things I ponder late at night.

Okay after the morphing bushes we come back to some clips from season one labeled as "highlights". Basically they're clips of people flipping and doing tricks. See?

I was a little disappointed. My two favorite performances were the Jabawokeez (how the hell do you spell that) in their Funky Town remix (2nd to last show of their season) and the Beat Freaks "Hot and Cold" performance that was probably the best I've ever seen.

jarthon:

I totally agree with your list!!! Like everything you said I agree with 100% and you have it so right.

blazergirl:

So excited this show is being recapped this season. Last season was really impressive. As far as the countdown, I can not believe that Beat Freaks was number 6; those girls were amazing! They definitly should have been higher. Excited to see the season start (and Donyelle!!!)!

brattygrl:

Okay, so I totally have nothing to say about the show, but the commercial on the other hand.... After seeing this thing run Lord know how many times, my boyfriend just cracks up hysterically out of nowhere one night! All proud of himself, thinking he's clever and "got it" and I'm an idiot and didn't! He's like the trees...in shapes... get it? I swear guys never mature past 15...

shantigal:

Yes, yes, yes, Potty, I will watch with you. I freakin' love this show.

Pretty sure J.C. is and always wears makeup. Doesn't help though, he's still blah. I love listening to Little Mama and Shane's critiques.

Beat Freaks were awesome and should have won, imo. My favorite routine so far was Fanny Pak's Get Your Freak on. Missy loved it too. That's pretty impressive when you can wow the original artist after they have created their own dance interpretation of the song.

When is it on again? ;).

shanti

themiki:

Are you gonna be recapping this show???? Yay!!!!!

Has anyone seen the commercial for this season where Qkwest (fuck your weird spellings) Crew is dancing in the church. They do this barrel roll with three people towards the end that I have to rewind my Tivo to rewatch several times whenever it's on. Those guys were fucking amazing.

Looking at the photos I would put my money on Massive Monkeys and Rhythm City. There are ALWAYS novelty acts like those douchebag line-dancers this season. Sometimes the novelty acts are actually good (like Fanny Pack), but they never make top three. I actually think Fanny Pack made it about four weeks longer than anyone thought they were going to.

Already hating the gay voguers. There are so many brilliant gay dancers out there, and the first time our community gets openly represented on a tv dance show it's fucking voguing?????? Way to fight stereotypes there! Can we have some homo b-boyz please?!?

shantigal:

J-mo, you need to get your Gay Drag Queen Dance Crew on this show.

Lizbot:

Yay! So glad you're recapping this show Pottymouth! I think SYTYCD will always be first in my heart among dance shows (underwhelming season and annoying judges notwithstanding), but ABDC holds a firm second.

And I share your pleasure that we don't have to see more of Randy on the season. Most annoying man on television (next to Mary Murphy...oh, that was really rude!)

I loved the Beat Freaks but I was disappointed that they didn't bring their A-game to the finale. Quest crew did (they blew me away with that piano routine!). It was a shame (on the Beat Freaks part) because I think they really were a girl crew who could take it all the way. Not sure when that will happen again...

tv freak:

I so agree...his list was so far off...

Thanks for the Fanny Pak clip, but I have to disagree. Their best performance was the Soldier routine. However, I did love almost all of their work and was bummed that they did not make the finale (SoReal Crew deserved to leave first).

Finally, Vogue Evolution is the first openly gay crew? Do you mean they are the first crew that is entirely openly gay, because I am pretty sure that a few of the dancers from Fanny Pak were gay also.

zbird:

I am soooo glad that you mentioned that Randy isn't on the regular show, because this was the first time I've watched it, and I would never watch it again if his annoying mug were on it week after week. His relentless pimping of the "Sunday at 9" was so freaking annoying. Not to mention that he kept calling it "Randy Jackson Presents ABDC" which, ugh. How obnoxious. Yuck.

Anyway, great dancing and awesome recap. And now that I know that Randy won't be returning (much) I will watch the season. Thanks PM!!!

BlackieChuu:

Seriously, if this countdown was a true list of best performances - it would be all Fanny Pak/Dynamic Edition routines, with the Jabbawokkeez, Kaba Modern, and A.S.I.I.D. as well

PottyMouth:

Anonymous: I love those routines also. I think if I was making the list it would be the same four or five groups with a couple of each of their routines.

jarthon: Thanks! Hope you keeping watching and reading!

blazergirl: I know. I was surprised that they had Strikers All Stars placed above Beat Freaks. Not sure of Randy’s logic on that one.

brattygrl: That commercial is sooo bizarre. I think it’s hilarious that your boyfriend got it before you did. Hee!

shantigal: Yay! I’m so happy you’re going to watch! I really loved Fanny Pak and had wanted them to win their season. It’s on Sundays at 9pm – I can’t believe I forgot to mention that! ;P

themiki: Yes! I love that commercial – they did something similar in one of their routines last year. Remember when they did that blindfolded bit? LOVE those guys. Yeah, vogueing seemed like a limited choice to me; I’d much rather see homo b-boys!!

J-Mo! What shanti said!!

Lizbot: There are a couple of girl crews this year, but we’ll have to wait and see what they’ve got. This and SYTYCD are my one two for dance show as well.

tv freak: It’s so funny that you bring up the toy soldier dance because I was so torn between the two of them. I think I went with the prom one because I wish I could have poisoned all the popular kids at my prom. :D

zbird: I’m glad I mentioned it too! I’d hate for you to have missed the season because of him when you won’t see him again until the end. Phew!

BlackieChuu: I agree. I think I’d actually find it hard to narrow the list down to ten, but there are definitely some people on Randy’s list that would not have even made my top twenty.

I’m so glad you all are going to watch with me! This one has a different flavor to it than SYTYCD, and that’s what I love about it. I love seeing what the crews come up with, and it’s always so impressive to me that a lot of these guys (and girls) have had little to no formal training.

Don’t forget! Sunday at 9!

SWAK, PottyMouth
