This week's America's Best Dance Crew is all about Beyonce. Well, not Beyonce the person, Beyonce's songs. Each crew will have a master mix of one of her songs with an added challenge element ranging from a real challenge such as dancing with a hula hoop or chain, to a piece o'cake "challenge" like popping the booty. But more on that later. Right now I have more pressing questions that I need answered like what the hell is going on with her eyebrows?

Malechi did them for me.
Before we start with this week's show, I have to give a special shout out to cbc-cca and jennaboa for giving me some answers about what the hell Afroborike means. Danke!!

Now if I could only make sense of this hair.
We begin this week's episode with Mario on stage flanked by all eight crews. Mario tells us we all voted last week (not me!) and he's going to reveal the top crews going through to next week. The two crews with the fewest votes will go head to head and only one will make it out alive.

You heard me. We will be killing the losing crew. Join us for the after show barbeque!
The first two crews definitely moving forward are.....We Are Heroes and Rhythm City! Yay! I actually liked these two last week. Does Mario's constant littering of the stage annoy anyone else? Would it be too much to ask that he hold onto the results card and throw it in a trash can?
Time for the Beyonce challenge. Mario tells us that this dynamic pop diva has conquered film, song and dance. What?!? How does appearing in an Austin Powers movie and being outsung in Dreamgirls equate to conquering film?? Does shaking your ass and waving your puss at everyone translate to conquering dance? The song part I'll give to her. I hear she's had some success when it comes to selling records. Oh, did I mention I'm not a fan?

Beyonce conquers the dance world!!
Well, Beyonce is just soooooo awesome because she has taken time away from her world tour to visit (or "hit up") ABDC and assign each crew their unique task. But she's really not that awesome y'all because she isn't there; she just recorded a message for them on the DVDs they get from Layla.
We Are Heroes is up first. Their song assignment is "Single Ladies". Their unique challenge? Taking the portion known as the grind and adding strobe effects. Hopefully there are no epileptics watching. Can you imagine having to tell your doctor that the seizure was caused by a strobing puss?

First of all? I absolutely HATE their costumes. Pink and silver? Puke. Bedazzled panties? Really?? As far as the dancing goes, I liked the ending pose, and I thought they had some good ideas, but it felt a little frenetic to me. If you're going to do popping and strobing you need the movements to be clean. They were not clean enough for me.
Lil Mama gives them a standing ovation because she is a moron. Shane thinks that the people that didn't understand why he thinks this crew is hot will know now. Represent. He of course wants to go into a slo-mo of the three-vagina grind, and if you didn't see that coming while these girls were dancing you need to go back and watch the previous three seasons.
Lil Mama agrees with Shane. She thinks it's incredible to see this whole idea just keep expanding. "Y'all kept y'all style and y'all went off."

I think she's been huffing some of the glue she used to attach those bangs.
JC likes that they showed a lot of different styles in this one performance. But he'd like to see them use more of the stage.
Up next is Rhythm City. Their Beyonce song is "Sweet Dreams" and their challenge is to update the Charleston. They are not happy about this at all. They really brought it last week, and they know they need to keep bringing it. But the Charleston is an old people dance so they're not feeling it. Wah wah.

This dance was full of really great ideas, but it wasn't executed well. I loved the beginning with the faces pressing through like they were trying to get him. The one poor guy slipped, but I thought he handled it well, recovering nicely. But their challenge of updating the Charleston was completely missing for me. In fact, I didn't see it at all until Lil Mama asked for a slo-mo of it. I'm left feeling disappointed by my favorite crew from last week.

My biggest/shock disappointment of the night was BYFK -- WTH voted for them? That's all I could think all night. Followed by WTH voted for We are Heroes? (Sorry, Potty, but I really thought they sucked last week too and they didn't really improve this week).
I sort of felt bad for AIM because I think they had more potential than those two crews at least and did not deserve to be bottom 2 after last week's performances. But I wonder if they would have gotten further if Donyelle had let another member of her crew share a different sob story...who knows? And their crew really doesn't have as many big tricks as some of the other crews do (cunnilingus lifts for example -- all I could say is ewwwwww!) so they really needed to go big or go home (no pun intended)
Shane is a total horndog. But somehow it's less icky on him than it is on Nigel Lithgoe (but still icky).
Loooove your recaps Potty -- the picture captions alone make your recaps priceless!

I feel really, really bad for those of you (*ahem* Lizbot) who hate We Are Heroes, because they will be around a loooooooong time. Not because they're so awesome, but because the judges want a girl crew to win SO badly.
Also, if you hate AfroBorks (*ahem* PM), too bad. They'll be around a long time, because the judges are dying to have a more "diverse" (aka not hip-hop) crew win.
I'm not in love with anyone yet. I agree Potty, that the crews I loved last week just didn't bring it this week. I did really like the AfroBorks, though. They were pretty cool. I liked Vogue Evolution, too, even though they were a sloppy ass mess. That trans woman can't even walk a straight line, and their version of dancing just consists of her prancing around stage and swinging her hair, but still... for some reason, I like them!

lol Here4beer -- I fear that I can't really argue with you. You're probably right. But they still suck! Of course, there are not all-boy crews this year so maybe the judges won't be as invested in propping up a dismal all-girl team? Maybe?
I also fear that BYFK is going to be that crew (like Status Quo) who people vote for week after week for some reason despite the fact that they are outmatched by other crews on the show. Well, I might just have to stick to SYTYCD Canada instead (although that's not much better either so far...)

Oh, and PM -- I'm not an expert on voguing but I discovered Leyomi Mizrahi a few years ago when someone posted one of her videos on their myspace page. She's apparently very famous in the vogue world. Here's one of her "battles" with another voguer...(take out the space after the double slashes and the www.)

the whole leg-drop thing they do -- how do they do that?

Oh PM you make me laugh so hard -- your captions are PRICELESS (Lee Press-On Hair was my personal fave)
I agree, no real standouts; I also think that AIM was the right crew to cut (well, BYFK should have gone before them, but you know what I mean). Donyelle came across as a really poor sport and it's weird, because I loved her on SYTYCD but I really didn't like her here at all -- that crew doesn't even "dance"!
I hate hate hate vogue evolution and I totally do not get the love for them at all. All that *ahem* chick Leomy does is swing her head around -- I fear whiplash. It's really annoyong and I don't see this crew (legitimately) going far.
Not really in love with anyone yet, although I really loved RC & MM last week and I hope they bring it again next week.
Thanks for the laughs!

Lizbot: I think it’s less icky on Shane because he’s not old enough to be their grandfather. We’ll just have to agree to disagree about We Are Heroes, although I didn’t think they did great in this challenge.
here4beer: I love the name AfroBorks – sounds like it should be a Swedish funk band or something. ;) I think you’re right about the more “diverse” groups sticking around for a while – I fear this season may be like season 3 of SYTYCD where I hated the outcome.
Lizbot: I really hope BYFK doesn’t turn out to be like Status Quo – I couldn’t stand them and their shitty attitudes.
zbird: I’m glad you enjoyed that one! I also really liked Donyelle on SYTYCD but she had a real piss poor attitude on this show. I don’t know what happened, but it was disappointing to see. Rhythm City and Massive Monkeys are my favs, but like I said before, I have a weakness for the b-boys.
Looking forward to the Karate Kid Challenge tonight – hopefully these guys can start wowing us soon!
