You know, I have to start giving Tyra Banks more credit. While I love America's Next Top Model and have always believed that our host is one of the most gorgeous people on the planet, I also thought she was a figurehead. I imagined that she was the leader of a puppet regime and there were much more influential people behind the scenes. That still may be true, but after the emotion she put into her speech last week, I have a sense that she not only is interested in making good television for Bankable Productions, but she is also interested in changing the lives of the young women that she finds. Maybe I am falling for an act, but I took notice. The remaining seven contestants also took notice, and they started this week with the elimination of Rebecca and Tiffany fresh on their minds.
[Yes, the Amazing Race recap is coming - so simmer down!]
Everybody was saying how Tyra's rant from last week was so very much unexpected. I think some of them could understand why Tiffany left, because a lot of them admitted that she didn't seem as interested in it. But when Rebecca goes, you know that it is a competition. In the early part of the season, it was good enough to just look pretty on camera, but as things progress the models are going to have to show something. They don't have to be perfect, but they will have to start getting better. Tyra came in to say that she went a little overboard, but that she really cares about everybody and what they are doing.
Luckily for our potential top models, their competition is giving them a crash course in everything they need to know to be a on the runway or at a shoot, plus everything in between. This week everybody visited, Jann Carl, of ET, to learn how you should act when you are being interviews, as well as being able to interview somebody else. Now before you say "What, did she play Drew Barrymore's mom or something? What does she know about interviewing?", ET means Entertainment Tonight, and Jann Carl is the host. Suffice it to say, she knows a thing or two about giving interviews.
These sorts of things tend to be great to watch, because, well if you watched them try to read a TelePrompTer last week, you would already know. It's a disaster waiting to happen, and if that wasn't enough to lure you in, the girls are also the ones going to be doing the interviews. If we were to create some sort of unintentional humor threat level scale, we would be talking about DEFCON 15, which is like 10 more DEFCONs than the military would use.
With that being said, I would like to say that I was a little disappointed with how things went. The best unintentional comedy moment happened when the cameras cut away to Michelle, who was wearing an "I'm With Stupid" shirt, and the arrow was pointed right at Tatiana. During the segment, Michelle actually wasn't half bad. She is so very emotional, but when the challenge rewards being honest with your feelings, she comes across like she has nothing to hide and is just being herself. Tatiana, who has been complaining about being isolated from the rest of the group, complains that she doesn't know enough about any of her roommates and feels this is going to be difficult. We don't really hear much from Tatiana in any of the other episodes, so this has me feeling that she is going to be in trouble later in the episode.

Bitching to a loved one on the phone in this show is equivalent of going down to the basement/takin a shower in a horror flick.
Great recap. BTW I'm dying to read AR 7 recap. where is it already?

Kahlen bugs me out. She totally looks like David Spade, she's dumb as a post, prudish and wholesome (I hate that), yet... I'm pulling for her. Even before her friend died. I'm troubled by this.
Of course, as I said 10 minutes in on week one, Naima is heads and tails above the rest. However, remember April and Ya-Ya won everything on AMTN 2 and 3, and they didn't win. (Ah, April... I loved that girl.)
Props to the ANTM editors who have taken a page from TAR and BB and have focused more on making fun of these girls. NONE of them knew what "crack of dawn," meant? Christ. The "actually" counter was good (esp when Jann Carl said it), but the best was in the preview for next week; the tympani drum note coupled with Keenyah's gunt.
not to harp on it, but NO ONE looks good in green light or green make up. yet, somehow, Naima did. She rules.

Dude I'm so glad you put that FANTASTIC picture of Tyra on the page. I always love that moment when after the girls all do their pics, this pic of Tyra pops up and knocks them all out of the ballpark. This one was smokin'....this woman is my inspiration at the gym, makeup counter, hair salon......

All I noticed in the preview for next week is that Michelle seriously needs to touch up her roots. If the ANTM people are going to give the girls makeovers at the beginning of the show, at least teach them how to continue to take care of their new looks!

Is it me or has Janice gone soft this season? Not that I don't expect her to be sympathetic when a girl is grieving, but all season there's been so many opportunities.

The 7 deadly sins thing was an interesting photo shoot, but some of the sins definitely seemed harder to portray (in a high fashion way that won't get you called a drag queen, even though that's how the makeup people made some girls look from the start.) How does one "do" sloth in a way that looks glamorous and model-y? How does a nearly-anorexic-looking girl do gluttony without being too obvious? Lust, envy, and wrath were the easy ones, even though I doubt most of the girls could have done envy quite as well as Naima.

They probably had the 7 sins shoot set for when they were down to 7, and then just dropped the one they were going to do if there had been 8. I can't believe i analyzed it that much. Naima takes good pics, but her sing songy way of talking is annoying. I'm glad Tatiana got the boot, she was so awkward. Kahlen's got to be next...

Did anyone hear what Jay said when Christina was getting lowered down? He said, "Wow, $10 a pop! Well, maybe that's a little cheap..."
I thought that was funny, dunno if anyone else did.

top two will be keenyah and naima, with kahlen as this season's shandi/blind girl. you know i'm right!

dude, kahlen totally did the fish hook while dancing. that was awesome. right at that moment she became my favorite. this whole season has be 'favorite-less' for me. until now. tired of michelle, why in the world is she still there? and get used to critics girl, you want to be a model...its part of the job. can we please have an episode where you don't cry, please. she's like annoying catie. remember her. errr. annoying.

I luv Michelle. this girl is beautiful, even though her photo looked like the last street walker drag queen on crack. In her prep and makeup she looked beautiful even in curlers.
I thought Keenya was look chubby. She's been having the cow while everyone else opted for the salad.
Ms. Bankable showed a lot of class breaking it down to the girls why she freaked last week. I think this show is all her. Her ideas, her challenges, her heart.

You know…I’m beginning to like Kahlen the most in this show. I think she’s the most photogenic of all and I find her personality quite endearing. Yes, I’m rooting for Naima as well but I think Kahlen may be her top competition. Keenya takes a couple of good pictures but I don’t find her extraordinary. I don’t even see her as being the top 3…but we still have a long way to go. I'm still very uncertain about the other girls. My guess for next week is that Michelle will be getting the boot. Chik really needs to build some backbones if she expects to be on top.

Without Lluvy, this show is an empty shell of nothingness.

The lower the DEFCON the worse it is, so your DEFCON analogy was incorrect. As someone who deals with DEFCON on a daily basis I felt it necessary to point that out.

I love Michelle.

I thought to tell you guys that the seven deadly sins shoot was thought of as far back as sept. 2004. I entered their Viewers challenge contest, and the seven deadly sins was my idea. Of course they thought of how to make that work in a photograph, but it was my idea for a photoshoot. I didn't win but they did it anyways. So they had this before Kahlen even was casted...And perhaps they did want to vote off two just for drama this season at this point, and go in from a shocking elimination to a more darker photoshoot...Since they knew they were going to do it long before they knew these girls.

Actually this is the correct elimination order:

Jesus, don't be a retard.

I know these shoots are planned out ahead of time, but they needed to try and do something about this. They record and broadcast Kahlen's grief over her friends death, then make her do a photo shoot... in a coffin? What about that doesn't scream "poor taste."
