Also, I apologize for the lateness in posting this recap. Major technical issues this week with my PIECE OF CRAP computer. Anyways, Today's episode is jam-packed with dreams, both crushed and fulfilled. Read on to see who wins!
Previously on ANTM: A lot happened. Hey, remember model boot camp? And Brittany's tantrum? And when Jael got thrown in the pool? They're skipping a lot in between, but aaaah, good times. This might have been the craziest bunch of contestants yet, between Ducky and the mail-order-bride and Mother Renee and Baby Einstein Kathleen. I know, right? God, if she had made it past the first episode, this could have been quite the season. Regardless, it's been a roller-coaster ride for all the finalists, because one can never tell where Tyra's favor will go from week to week, and here we are, down to the eternal optimist Natasha, Cha Cha Diva Jaslene and Mother Renee.
One last time. Meeeeemoriiiiieeees, like the corner of my mind.
Fade up on morning in Sydney. There's no Tyra Mail(!) and we cut to the chase with Man Jay greeting our finalists, there this morning for their CoverGirl shoot. The tinkling of a harp denotes just how special this CoverGirl shoot is. Today's winner's "print ad" will be featured in a magazine and seen by millions of people.
Renee's CoverGirl face.
The girls are shilling for one specific product today. Normally I wouldn't say it in the recap because, you know, I'm on to you, capitalists, but half of the fun of the commercial is the girls trying to work out a tongue-twister involving True Shine Lip Color. Needless to say, the Brain Trust will have some issues.
We already had a CoverGirl commercial, so today the girls will be doing a "My Life as a CoverGirl" segment instead. This will be completely ad-libbed, so to ensure hilarious results.
Man Jay will not be present at the photo shoot, just at the "My Life as a CoverGirl" segment filming, but the girls will have some "help" in the form of last year's winner, Caridee. That's nice and all, but it really just serves to remind everyone involved that winning ANTM may help your pride, but not really your modeling career. Seriously, this is the most I've seen of Caridee since last year's finale. Also, I'm realizing that Caridee is not that pretty. Like, at all. Still glad she won over Melrose though.
As Natasha prepares for her video segment, Man Jay explains there's added pressure because Brent, from CoverGirl, is there and he oversees all these segments so he's the man to impress. And methinks Man Jay has a little crush on Brent and his upper body, so Jay wants to impress Brent with his coaching skillz as well.
Look at Man Jay eye him like a dog on a bone.
To make this extra-fun, though every girl is ad-libbing, they all have to work in the phrase, "New True Shine Lip Color in sheer, shiny shades matches 97% of skin tones."
Natasha, knowing she has some language issues, actually writes out a little script for herself. On her first taping, Man Jay thinks she sounds too rehearsed and explains they're looking for spontaneity, so she should throw out her script. On her next round, I don't really think she sounds more natural, but Man Jay and his BFF Brent are happy with it, so Natasha rejoices.
Renee is up next, filming on a boat in Sydney Harbor. She thinks it weird to do a commercial without lines, but knows she has that same old story to captivate audience's sympathy as she's done all season, so she's not too worried. I mean, for real. Over it, Renee, can you tell us anything else about yourself? On her first attempt Renne begins by greeting the camera, then coming out with "I had a baby nine months ago and I thought my life was over." I bet your son will feel really good when he sees that sixteen years from now. Man Jay cuts and explains they would like to hear something a little more positive.

It was clear weeks ago Jaslene would win...especially since she's the one who obviously has an eating disorder.
Every one of her bones shows, but the photographers and coaches are praising her as having the "perfect body." (I paused the video during the Australian/Aboriginal shoot and counted her ribs.)
Did you catch in her in the background of the 5-11-07 episode when the girls were out for a night on the town? In the corner of the cmaera shot, as the camera tried to pan away, Jaslene was seen taking a slice of orange, placing it in her mouth, then immediately spitting the whole thing out as though the mere taste of food and thought of calories nauseated her.
It's sad with all the talk of showing "healthier" models, an anorexic took the title.

Spitting out the orange in disgust?? How about..she was using the orange to dull the taste of liquor she just took a shot of?
Anyhow. Great Recap.
I was kind of expecting Jaslene to win, although I was rooting for Renee. The only reason I wanted her to make it was for the sake of her family though.

you can clearly tell jaslene does not have an eating disorder. her face doesn't look pale and sunken in and if u looked at her legs in the fashion show they looked like normal healthy legs. she's just naturally skinny. and in the beginning of the season they thinned her hair out for the makeover. ano's hair fall out, clearly not the case with jaslene. im sorry for the rant but it's really getting old that people think she has an eating disorder just cuz she's skinny. this is why tyra shoulda kept janice around. yeah it sucks that the modeling industry gets hard for super skinny girls but honestly if u wanna be a top model or even a supermodel u need to be skinny. they dont make couture in plus sizes.

All the while, I was rooting for Renee--and I have no idea why, because I didn't think she was the best or the nicest--but when it came to the final episodes, my loyalty really shifted to Natasha.
She was the one with the most growth, obviously. Her pictures are great and her charm makes her endearing. But what really got me was her class; I love how classy and poised she is. Every contestant finds a way to demean some other contestant, but she just focused on herself, even if she did sound like a narcissist--which is better than, say, MEAN.
I read in an interview they did with the two finalists that Jaslene dismissed Natasha with "she wasn't competition," and that she knew she was going to win because she was up against Natasha. In HER interview, Natasha was nothing but graceful. She even chose to not watch the final episode in the season finale party because she wanted to wait until Jaslene arrived from Chicago (her flight was late), seeing as how they had spent so much time together and Natasha really considered Jaslene a friend. And when the interviewer pointed out that Jaslene hadn't thought she was good enough from the beginning, she didn't backfire, she PRAISED Jaslene! All that reminded me of how she handled the girls ganging up on her last week. That was class, people.
Thank you for the recaps, Mills; they were not only hilarious, but pointed out many things we the viewers might not have noticed.

I've been wanting Jaslene to win since last season... she's the girl who stuck out in the beginning of Cycle 7, then when the other girls were chosen, I was like, "Now who..?" I'm so happy for her.
And yes, this eating disorder stuff IS old. Jaslene doesn't look sick. She's not even boney. She just looks like she has a very small rib cage. It's not like her bones pop out and her skin is sinking into them. She's just a very, very, very tiny built girl.

Ahaha! In your wrinkled hag face, Renee! Ho wasn't even grateful in her exit interview. To me, it says that she was putting on an act these past few episodes. Oh well, I'm glad Jaslene won, but I also liked Natasha, so all in all, it was a good finale.
Was anyone else bothered by Natasha's voice during her Cover Girl commercial? It was too soft and, I don't even know, it just bothered me. I guess that's her way of toning down her accent.
I have never watched, nor do I plan on watching, So You Think You Can Dance, but I will definitely be reading your recaps, KrankMills. You're hilarious.

I was sad that Natasha didn't win. Oh man. She's just so funny! And she does have a lot of class. And she did grow and improve. Honestly, the way it had been going the past few weeks, I thought it would be between Renee and Natasha. But, sadly (I don't like her much, but she IS gorgeous) it wasn't to be.
I do have a little bit of a problem with the fact that Tyra's been all "kiss my fat ass" this season particularly and then they choose the scary-skinniest girl of the bunch. I realize that there are other factors for choosing and that Jaslene may just be "small boned", but come on, she's still creepy skinny. It may have been the desserts picture, but its scary.
Once again, my pick comes in second. Well, except for Caridee. Called that one.

I love your recaps, Krank! I didn't know SYTYCD will be starting again soon. yay! I loved Amanda's recaps last season, but I'm sure I'll enjoy yours, too.
I wanted Natasha to win. From what I could see, she is very gracious and not so judgmental (i.e., backstabbing) as the other girls were. Plus, she handled the falling skirt fabulously! Oh, well. Maybe she can try again next year, like Jaslene did!

I forgive you for last week Kmills :)
I feel like Renee should have won, but I'm happy with Jaslene.
Neither of the final two girls could walk worth a crap! Out of this cycle, I think the strongest 3 definately made it to the end, but I have to say... this cycle was weak with pictures and with the walk. I don't know if its the girls or the narcissistically crappy themes for photoshoots/runway they came up with this cycle.
Oh yeah... I have to say, Renee does look a bit older than the other girls but does she really look any older than Caridee? i think Renee looks old because of that nasty mullet they gave her in the makeovers... she has an interview up on the CW website where she actually looks like a 21 year old (long hair, bangs, etc.)

AGrinkov... did Jaslene really say that? Wow... what a bitch. Couldn't say anything nice, oh no.. she still had to be a nasty bitch even though she already won. What a skank...
Anyways... I wasn't surprised to see her win.
I would've prefered Natasha, but Jaslene was ok too.
I just didn't want Renee to win.
I mean seriously... 9 months ago I had a child and thought my life was over???? Seriously?? Shall we give her a nomination of Mother of the Year? Or just start sending her son to a therapist. What kind of funked up comment was that?? What a nasty bitch.

I think the season ended fairly. I liked Natasha a lot personalitywise and I liked her photos but sometimes in person she looked not so great.
Until next season, lets kep dreaming of Nigel...

i don't get this show. they will use any excuse to get rid of or keep someone. last season they praised caridee for her "classic" look. renee' has that same kind of look and they tell her they've seen it before so it's not a good thing. when danielle was on the show they hounded her about her accent because a top model needs to be able to speak well and the public needs to be able to understand them. yet this seasons top two have some of the thickest accents that have been on this show and the judges don't say a word about it. i guess that shows that none of that stuff really matters - they just use it as ploys to eliminate people

Shollia,
yes, Jaslene did say it. I wasn't shocked by that--didn't she say "we just don't accept who you are"?--I was shocked by how Natasha handled it. She could write a book on class, that girl!
I don't know whether I should advertise another website, but Natasha's (and Jaslene's) interview is on buddytv. Check it out; hear the interview too, and notice how her accent is less noticeable now!
By the way, I don't think Jaslene has an eating disorder, because I've met girls as skinny as her, who are just born like that. But I do confess--THAT CANDY SHOOT WAS SCARY.
