We Were All Rooting For You! (Well, I Wasn't)

tyra_speech_frontSo, I know what you have all came for, and yes, we have it. At the end of last week's America's Next Top Model, we were given a preview of Tyra tearing into somebody. There was a lot of speculation as to who it would be, and let's be honest there are plenty of candidates. I am not going to spoil the surprise, but I will tell you that it was well worth the wait. Tyra has solidified herself near the top of the reality speech hall of fame. She was so mad at the way everybody performed this week, she showed not one, but two girls the door.

Lluvy was eliminated last week, and in sort of surprise, Rebecca was second to last. She clearly wants to do better, but just doesn't know how to vamp it up. Let's all admit it, she is quite bland. The only person who may have less personality is Kahlen, and no surprise, they are best friends.

We really jumped into the recreational portion of the episode when the girls went out to dinner at Dolce. If you didn't know that is Aston Kutcher's (part-owned)restaurant, and if you are going to be in Los Angeles, it is on Melrose and Sweetzer in West Hollywood. Dolce is a medium-nice restaurant, and they were shuttled off to the VIP section, but Tiffany had no clue what she was doing. Whenever you are in a situation you can't control, it is best to roll with the punches. For Tiffany, those punches did not include tuna tartar or calamari (if you go, try the carpaccio, and the penne). But come on, enjoy the moment. What is the worst that can happen? You get sick and throw up all over the place? You already did that, why so gun shy?

Our instructional portion of the episode centered around acting. As much fun as it was to watch the girls pretend to be sick last year, this year's challenge was going to be even better. The girls had to learn cockney accents, and if you want to know the meaning of hilarious, it is watching these models as they try and perfect that cockney accent. It's also fun because everybody out there has tried to pull off the cockney accent, and it's a particular affliction among guys when there is some sort of English or Irish beer around.

After a quick refresher course, the girls were tasked with learning not just a cockney accent, but a whole set of lines that they were going to act out in a scene the next day. And you know what happens when the girls have to act out a scene - they get a gorgeous male actor to do it with them. Last year, it was Taye Diggs(cool guy, B-side introduced me to him at the Ghost Bar in Vegas), and this year it was Boris Kodjoe, best known for his role on Soul Food. Soul Food was on Showtime, and was the place to find high quality dramatic acting among black actors. Well, at least it was until HBO came out with The Wire.

Predictably, the girls went crazy over Boris. I am actually surprised that Tiffany didn't pass out like Rebecca did a few weeks ago. The excitement was so contagious that even Kahlen looked like she had a pulse. Her eyes were bugging out more than Christina's:

kahlen_boris
Kahlen: "Once you go Boris....."

But this is not a game, this is "ACTING" and things had to get serious. Our contestants were whisked away backstage of this little Shakespeare theater that is on Kings, also in West Hollywood. If you are forced to watch one of your struggling actor friends perform there, make sure and try the margaritas at Marix, just a few block away. If it's breakfast you crave, try Hugo's, which is right next door. It's, uhhh, slightly dainty for me, but some may like the potato pancakes. But enough with my citysearch.com impression. The girls had to get dressed as a peasant and do their own makeup, which included blacking out one tooth to make it look like it was missing. Somewhere out there, Brandi is cursing herself for getting kicked out early. This would have been the perfect challenge for her.

jen:

tyra was ridiculous, wasn't she? it was sort of like when they have "martha stewart" on conan and all of a sudden she flips out like she's the devil.

and yeah, i see your point about rebecca (kind of), but who cares if ugly people can take good pictures.

i am so profound...

laska:

Every time I watch Michelle, I can't understand why she's still in the running, but then they show her photo and I'm impressed.
I was expecting the words "I SPEAK FACTS!" to come shooting out of Tyra's mouth at any second. Someone has been watching too much of the competition.
I think Tiffany was playing her ouster like it was no big deal to keep up her proud from the ghetto image and to keep from crying in front of the others. I don't think Tyra needed to go quite that postal on her.

Jane:

Did anyone hear Janice yell "au revoir bitches"? Hilarious!

Jez:

I love michelle.

America's Next Top Fan:

Loved that Naima picked Michelle because she was so heartbroken she lost. Naima is so sweet...this girl shits gold. Or as cockneys would say "zzhitz gode".

Why is it that people think because you live in the ghetto you have a ghetto mentality? So Tiffany can't get rid of her ghetto guilt she expect Kenya from Compton to sympathize but was shot down when Kenya told her to get over it. Tiffany, girlfriend, you got a problem. This girl definitely took the best pictures consistently but you can always fuck it up with a bad attitude. You'd think she'd learn from Brandi.

J-Unit. I'm suprised you didn't screencapture Brittany & Rib flirting before the shoot. It looked like Rib had a complete hard on and Brittany kept falling into it. Hilarious. But Michelle rocked that shoot.

Ms. Bankable laid it down last night proving that she still has her ghetto roots and could still be cultured. Tiffany needs to learn a thing or two from her but I don't think she will. What a way to let down your grandmother.

Meg:

I though Tyra's little flip out was ridiculous. I believe that Tiffany was only showing her remaining friends a little humor, basically her way of saying, I'm fine, don't cry! And Tyra took that as disrespect? And this woman wants to be a talk show host?? Ridiculous!! My honest opinion, Tyra acted out because Boris was there. She wanted took bad in front of him. Because she has a little crush on him, maybe?? Don't tell his wife!

I love Brittany! She is fabulous!!

America's Next Top Fan:

Junit. Instead of Tiffany it would be funny to see Ms. Bankable angry face on the main page. Plus it doesn't give away who lost.

America's Next Top Fan:

J-Unit you rock!!

Ashes:

I couldn't view the video of the Tyra-Tantrum. Can anyone give me the gist of what she said?

Bob:

I can't understand why women that have tatoos are picked to be on this show in the first place. The judges always make sly comments about why they shouldn't have them. Tiffany needed to go on her attitude alone. Rebecca, for being such a goody-goody girl and very cute in my opinion, was smoking cigs with Kahlen in the first couple of minutes of the show in case you missed it. Totally changed my way of looking at her.

Leah3t:

Yeah Tyra was out of line. Though I was impressed they didn't edit her freak attack out. I thought Tiffany was just trying to not cry as she left. So weird.

And you all know you tried a Brittish accent yourself as you watched that show.

joslyn:

Me neither, J-Unit. I wasn't rooting for her, either. I don't think I am really rooting for any of them; they are all kind of ho-hum this year. The second grade reading skills on display- a perfect example of how how cute + dumb= a hot mess. Tyra's smack down was the best ever! More kids need to have someone put it on 'em like that.

Nels:

I developed a lot more respect for Tyra after this. I often wrote her often for her rehearsed comments and such, but this was sincere and seemed to be from the right place. And Tiffany got it, she understood the point, at least from what she said in her closing comments. Go, Tyra! This is not a game.

yourmom:

I thought Tiffany needed it. She was just giving up on reading the teleprompter. But I could see how that would be nerve-racking for her. I hate having to read in front of people(like a hot model/actor) especially weird words like magenta (haha) dumbasses.

Kate:

This was my favorite episode by far...not just for the Tyra tantrum, but also for Michelle repeatedly saying how great she is at acting, but couldn't do a cockney accent to save her life .

Oh, and Rib is also an actor...years back, he was in the original cast of Port Charles, then they started killing people off and he was the first to go (I believe he was hanged and strung up by the cables above the stage at the Nurses' Ball).

couchpotato:

That was a goooood episode of ANTM. Tyra's outrage was touching and emotional to watch. It was obvious that Tiffany didn't want to hear it; like her grandma was giving her yet another lecture or something. I'm sure it went in one ear and out the other... such ashamed. P.S. I wasn't rooting for her either.

G.P.:

I guess we can call what we saw a "TYRAde"? Hahaha, admit it, I was first, I was first!!!! I'm a guy who thinks Tyra's H-O-T. That vein-popping, neck-snaking, finger-waggin', tongue-lashing she gave to Tiffany only made me want to marry her even more. Imagine getting yelled at by that gorgeous rock for the next ten years...? I'm salivating.

corona kid:

I was rooting for Tifanny, I must admit, rooting for someone to throw a beer at her so she could repeat the most famous ANTM lines "Bitch threw beer on my weave!" If only Miss Tyra had a beer, that would've priceless! Love Janice calling them all bitches, can't wait for the surreal life! I'm sorry, but good pictures or not, Michelle is not attractive at all. Tyra has blasted people before for taking good pictures but not looking like a top model, why not her. Maybe Tyra is a lesbian and in love with her! That'd be hot!

Ashes:

G.P. why only the next ten years? Are you assuming the marriage wouldn't last longer than that or are you assuming that she won't be gorgeous for longer than that?

couchpotato:

For Ashes who didn't view the Tyra Tantrum - Check out this site. They actually have a transcipt! http://www.realityblurred.com/realitytv/archives/top_model_4/2005_Apr_14_tyra_yells

G.P.:

Ashes, I was thinking that she wouldn't be as gorgeous after ten years, but, you know what? After reconsidering, I've decided that I wouldn't mind growing old with Tyra even if her face (and other appealing parts) begin to fall. She's got a "realness" about her that's quite magnetic. The question is, would she still want a grub like myself after ten years? Of course, she would! You KNOW I'm gonna make it worth her while! :-)

Leah3t:

Though I do not want to marry Tyra, (as I want to marry a man) I do wish she was my big sister. She does have a "realness"- my friends and I were saying she's like one of those cool camp counselors you worshipped when you were 14.

snazzybangs:

what the hell is wrong with michelle's teeth? does she have clear braces or just some nasty unbrushed teeth?

has anyone else noticed this?

yourmom:

I totaly agree Leah. Did anyone see her on Punk'd? I thought she handled it so well and on top of that she was lookin hella scroungy(but still beautiful like always).

America's Next Top Fan:

Corona Kid you are sooooo right. I forgot about Tiffany's beer thing. This girl is reality TV gold. If Ms. Bankable want another reality breaking scene she'd be smart to bring Tiffany back for Cycle 5 or 6.

its amazing how quickly Tyra can turn on the ghetto. She was snapping up and down, neck was gyrating. you go guuuuurl!

Just hurry up adn let golden child Naima win. We all know shes going to.

You know, anytime one of these girls calls a parent or boyfriend for inspiration, they pretty much get kicked off. The lesson: DON'T PICK UP THE PHONE!

Tyra's Tyrade (like that?) was pretty awesome, but you know it's always strange watching someone lecture someone else. I felt awkward just watching it. It was almost as awkward as the time I tried to introduce J-Unit to Taye Diggs.

Ashes:

Couchpotato, thanks for posting that link. I'm at work and can't get the video link to play, so I've been curious about the details of what Tyra said. I particularly like how the editorial comments label the comments from other judges "Two male judges trying desperately to assert their masculinity:" before the text of what they said. Too funny! It sounds like Tyra had some good points but may have gone over the top in her delivery. I'm sorry I missed last night's episode!

vinnie:

You can still catch it on Friday. It sucks that Tiffany lost confidence in herself, I WAS ROOTING FOR HER. Oh well, maybe this will teach her to be less GHETTO and more DIVERSE.

Cindy C:

People please, I noticed that a lot of your comments had a sarcastic tone to them; I also noticed a lot of second-guessing of the judges. Please lets not fall into any second-guessing and let the professionals do their job.

I remind that the winner of this contest will have the eyes and ears of the world upon them for the next year as s/he is sky rocketed to supper model fame. They will be dictating the styles and trends that we will be wearing and will be looked upon as cultural royalty. I again stress that we should stand back and participate in this contest from afar and LET THE PROFESIONALS DO THEIR JOB. TOO MUCH IS AT STAKE.

Cindy C

Leah3t:

Cindy C you are totally right! Like how the first one is now on the surreal life! And the second one is.....well, somewhere that cultural royalty hangs out!

curlypacks:

Leah3T I notice that your post has a sarcastic tone....

I liked Tiffany, but serisouly they gave her a second chance and thats what she did with it? She needed to go.
Kahlen is hilarious, she's like this seasons Norelle- total rock

_:

I remind that the winner of this contest will have the eyes and ears of the world upon them for the next year as s/he is sky rocketed to supper model fame. They will be dictating the styles and trends that we will be wearing and will be looked upon as cultural royalty. *snip* TOO MUCH IS AT STAKE.

Cindy C

That has to be a prime example of sarcasm, right? Cultural royalty? Too much is at stake? Eyes and ears of the world?

I think you'll find a very small percentage of the world's population cares about who wins ANTM, people have rather more important things on their mind. Furthermore, anyone who considers them cultural royalty is a cretin, to continue with the analogy, models are more like court jesters; not without influence but hardly royalty.

antifoil:

i'd hit it

Marie:

It was obvious that Tyra wanted one of the ghetto chicks to win -- Brandy and Tiffany. Brandy, if she were white, would never have even made it on the show. That hair. Those buck teeth. That "yo ass would be to' up" attitude... Ay yi yi. And was Tiffany pretty enough to warrant a 2nd chance on the show? I don't think so. That plus-sized model that didn't make it on the show was MUCH better looking than either of them.

But I don't think Tyra's biased in the sense that she wanted ANY black girl to win. After all, she doesn't seem to care at all about Kendra. Tyra just seems to have really pushed and given chance after chance to Brandy and Tiffany. Hmm, now that I think about it, Tyra didn't seem to really like Ya-Ya last season either. And Ya-Ya was much more educated and classier than Eve, who was fighting with everyone.

I'm glad they're both finally gone. Naima is my pony.

America's Next Top Fan:

Love the new ANTM header. Tyra is so hot.

The Hammer:

That's the loudest talking vagina I've ever heard.

The Player:

"s/he sky rocketed to supper model fame"

wait a minute, does this mean that one of the winners is a) a trannie and b) modeling at a supper club?

ER:

This link is not working....There is no Tyra though I trya.

daniel:

i can't stop watching that clip.

SHIIVVERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ogre:

I finally saw the episode tonight. If I were in Tiffany's place, I definitely would've poured beer in Tyrant's ugly weave. She had no right to scream at someone who she had just eliminated.

curlypacks:

wait a minute, does this mean that one of the winners is a) a trannie and b) modeling at a supper club?

yes, I heard its the same dinner theatre that Constantine Moralis got his first taste of hard rock playing Jesus Christ superstar.
Incidently they also have a great shrimp bisque on the menu

TyraSupporter:

I feel that Tyra let her emotions get the best of her. Tiffany was not focused because she did not want to be there, and she could not relax into all those strange new enviroments.
Maybe Tyra was riding her wave...but Tiffany really needed to hear those words. She's 22, you're not an adult at that age...regardless of what legal rights you may have. Being an adult means maintaining your responsibilities, and it takes time to develop this skill.
I believe that Tiffany will be able to have a good life on her own terms.

Nony:

I'm sorry for being such an idiot, but what's "in the mish"? :(

Mandy / ny:

So glad Tiffany gone

-The more i see michelle The more i love her
i think she's very beautyful and have firm healthy body.
-i don't know why lots of people don't like her

-now rooting Kahlen Chris Michelle

Nony,

"in the mish" = "in the missionary position"

catlin:

haha that video clip was hallarious....

catlin:

haha that video clip was hallarious....

Miss K:

...DANG.

Tyra was rolling her neck so much I thought it might snap off. She's like the beautiful woman down the street who won't hesitate to kick your butt if you step outta line.

TinkerbellAPixie:

Gotta confess I read this entire recap with a bad Cockney Accent and it made it even funnier.

Jolly good recawp J-Unit, rawghty then, A'm awrf now.

Heathers:

Hey J-Unit, do you live in LA? Do you go out in Hollywood? Do you run into famous people? Seriously, I think all the TVGASM writers are suffering from a little Amazing Race Ron-Repeat syndrome. We get it...moving on...

joslyn:

Heathers-
I like J-Unit's LA insights, thank you very much!J, keep doing your thug-thizzle.

Heathers - until someone writes a blog that makes running into the hostess of Applebees funny and interesting, we'll stick with our superficial celeb stories.

Garrey:

After watching that last week, it was sorta scary...I mean, seeing Tyra yell like that when she's usually so calm was weird. She didn't even yell like that when Yaya spit out that Japanese food thing. Needless to say, I was turned on!

I think that last weeks episode was far out. I really did want Tiffany to win. She was flawless. She was a natural beauty. As for Rebecca, I'm glad she was eliminated. Her attitude (smelled horrible).

Tweety2202:

I thought Tiffany deserved EVERYTHING that she got from Tyra. Tiffany not only had one chance but she had two opportunities to become a top model and did not take it seriously. The rude comments she made about the challenges were totally out of line, when you are trying to make it, you should be nothing but humble and Tiffany was not. Tyra believed in her to let her come back after season 1 and Tiffany took it lightly. She did not go after it with any kind of tenacity whatsoever. Tyra needed to put her foot in Tiffany's ass. Go Tyra!!

hannah:

no i think tiffany deserved that that bitch i love tyra!!

jane:

KaYLEN IS SOOO PRETTY!!

minelli:

does anyone know where i can go to see the clip online?!? i missed that episode ;(

Maggie:

Why does it count to have these young ladies do the 7 deadly sins in a coffin?? I sure that when I am extremely hungry I don't look for a gravesite?
Thanks, Maggie

c. t:

I wonder if Tyra would have yelled the same way at Tiffany if she wasn't on the set, but on the streets of Miami???????? Makes you say ummmmmm...
And I believe she was showing off for Boris.

Jas:

Hello jellos, the clip does work, however you need to install quicktime.

http://www.apple.com.au/quicktime/download/

Go through the installation and refresh your browser, if that still doesn't work you might need to reset internet defaults or install a newer version of Internet Explorer. I have recent versions of both, and it works fine. =)

Kt:

tyra seems like a fake ass bitch... the show complains about the girls wearing too much make up while trya's face is loaded with it. I bet if she took all that off she'd look like shit. Her nose, cheeks and chin are plastic...

Star:

Trya should;ve listened to tiff... she just kept talkin without hearing Tiff's side of the story

Tyra: Rebecca, I admire your emotion right now. It shows to me that this was something that's very important to you. Tiffany, I'm extremely disappointed in you. This is a joke to you. You've been through anger management, you've been through your grandmother getting her lights turned off to buy you a swimsuit for this competition, and you go over there and you joke and you laugh? This is serious to these girls, and this should be serious to you.

Tiffany: Looks can be deceiving. I'm hurt, I am. But I can't change it, Tyra, I've been...

Tyra: You can't change what?

Tiffany: I'm sick of crying about stuff that I cannot change. I'm sick of being disappointed, I'm sick of all of it. I'm not...

Tyra: You're not sick of being disappointed, Tiffany...

Tiffany: Obviously I am...Tyra: No, you're not. If you were sick of being disappointed, you would stand up and you would take control of your destiny. Did you know that you had a possibility to win? Did you know that all of America is rooting for you? Do you know that? And then you come here and treat that like a joke? You come and here and look at that and say, 'I can't read that'? You read 10 times better than half of those girls over there.

Two male judges trying desperately to assert their masculinity: You did. You did.

Tyra: And you come in here with a defeatist attitude.

Tiffany [finally looks and sounds upset]: I don't have a bad attitude. Maybe I am angry inside, I've been through stuff, so I'm angry.

Tyra [screaming so loud that even we're scared]: Be quiet, Tiffany! Be quiet! [so loud the sound engineer can't compensate] Stop it! I have never in my life yelled at a girl like this. When my mother yells like this it's because she loves me. I was rooting for you, we were all rooting for you! How dare you! Learn something from this! When you go to bed at night, you lay there and you take responsibility for yourself, because nobody's going to take responsibility for you. You rolling your eyes and you act like it's because you've heard it all before -- you've heard it all before -- you don't know where the hell I come from, you have no idea what I've been through. But I'm not a victim; I grow from it and I learn. Take responsibility for yourself.

jrock:

Cindy C said: People please, I noticed that a lot of your comments had a sarcastic tone to them

Then she said something which read more sarcastically than anything on the whole site:
They will be dictating the styles and trends that we will be wearing and will be looked upon as cultural royalty.

now that's funny

Anna:

i think Tyra is amazing...i love her! she wants the best for the models. she says things and tries to understand each of them and care for all of them. she knows what they are going through because she had experienced the responsibility to be a model. they should know that!

trya shudnt have gone off likeeee PUSSY

SL:

tyra nee d to shut up! she didnt have to get a hisy fit! tyra need to get slapped!!!!!!!!!!! i liked tiffany!!

Candycane:

lets be honest and step into reality. I like tiffany because she kept it real but i dont believe she is americasnextopmodel material. I think tyra did go a little over board with her speech. I guess shes trying to get a leading role in a movie or something, who knows??? As for michelle, i dont even understand how she even made the show. She is very masculine looking with a big ass chin and that blonde hair color they hooked her up with makes her look even worse. She shoulda got eliminated before lv or whatever her name is.Atlest lv had a good walk. aint nobody got nothing on eva though. she is one of the most preetiest girls i have ever seen.

miA:

I'm just glad tiffany is gone cuz her attitude was absolutely unbearable and Tyra yelling at her is understandable...it hurts when you believe in someone so much and that person doesn't even believe in themself...it's hard and it hurts to see them like that and just give up when you haven't even given up on them yet

CJ:

tyra was FAKE! i thing she just did that for rating's sake. and besides does anyone remember during their confrense tyra suggested that they need to do something to wake the girls up. personally i think that the whole this is staged... and as much as i love the show i can't stand tyra because she just seems fake she doesn't have any real sincearity towards anyone except for making the mula. oh yah and janice babe... you were NOT the world FIRST top model...anyone hear of twiggy?
CJ

Lady:

I think the way Tyra acted on that show was ridiculous. I agree with the other poster that she was just showing out in front of Boris. Tiffany was a little careless and she gave up too easily, but that was just uncalled for.

lONG TIME FAN OF ANTM LOVE WHAT YALL DO, BUT YOU MADE ONE MISTAKE MERCEDES SHOULD HAVE WON OVER YVONNE OR WHO EVER SHE WAS.
OH TWO MISTAKES EVA IS THE SECOND
BUT I STILL LOVE TYR
