Commander Adama is confident in his plan. Sharon is able to sneak past the Cylon Centurions because the Centurions have been programmed not to disobey any Humano-cylon and weren't given the ability to tell the difference between any of them. Irony of ironies, the current Cylons don't want their own robots to rebel. He tells Lee to take Pegasus and protect the fleet, but he is going to go back and set his people free.
Returning once more to Caprica, things are getting even more heated. Roslin is talking to Tigh about the suicide bombings. They are going from strategic places to almost indiscriminate death. There are those that would say you could make an argument to take out the police academy because those people chose to side with the enemy, but Tigh was talking about blowing up places like the market place, once again to make a point. He started going on and on about how they were evil men in the garden of paradise and once again his only job was to distract the Cylons enough so Adama could get them the hell out of there.
At first, Starbuck completely rejected her daughter, but then something happened. Kara couldn't stand her running around and decided to go into another room so she wouldn't have to hear the noise. Then she hears a loud thud. When she ran outside, Casey was on the steps, and she was bleeding from her head. Suddenly, Kara couldn't hold back her motherly instincts any longer. They rushed Casey to the hospital and she stayed by her side, with Leoben next to her, until she woke up. When her daughter opened her eyes, Kara took Leoben's hand. What the fuck? Would she really start to love this guy? I am not even sure her daughter is actually hers. It looked a little old when I first saw her, so I wondered if Casey was a Cylon. There would be no reason to create a Cylon child, but then again, these Cylons surprise us all the time, so anything is possible.
After the latest suicide bombing, the Cylon leaders decided that there would have to be drastic measures taken. How drastic? They wanted Baltar to sign off on the murder of hundreds of civilians to demonstrate their willingness to do whatever it takes. Baltar is used to agreeing with whatever they said, but this time was different. Even after they shot and killed Caprica-Six for protesting the order (she'll wake up in a few days anyway), he still couldn't bring himself to do it, even with a gun pointed at his head.
When Baltar was on Galactica, the visions of Six used to pop into his head and tell him what to do. We could never tell if it was only his imagination, but it is ironic that the visions started when the person he thought was his lover from Caprica was dead. She told him that sometimes you have to do things you hate to survive another day, so Baltar signs it. I was hoping that they would shoot the pussy anyway, but alas, Baltar lives.
Things only get worse from there. While Tigh, Tyrel, and Anders are planning the rendezvous with Sharon and Galactica, Tigh's wife comes back. She has just had sex with Cavil again, this time just for money. Cavil was really happy with Ellen's technique, particularly "the swirl", but told her that she would have to start giving him intelligence on the insurgency or she would put Saul back in jail, and she won't want to see what he is missing the next time they see each other. Right before Tigh is to burn the plans for the landing, Ellen takes it and hides it. I always take notes when I do recaps, and my notes for this moment read "Oh that stupid bitch. Don't do it! Oh fuck me." Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.
Anders and his buddies meet up with Sharon, and some Centurions ambush them. Now would be a great time for her to test her theory on whether the Centurions will obey her or not, but we don't get to see that much. Instead, we are about to find out what the Cylons were going to do with Baltar's order.

I don't think Kara has changed her mind about Leo. I think the comment about her killing him 5 times and it getting her nowhere hit home. So she's using emotions to try and get out of this one. They threw something at her that they thought would be her weakness and she's going to take advantage of that.
Did they ever say that Lee and Dee were married?
Anyway, excellent episode. Kinda makes you think about the state of OUR current affirs.

Great recap, J-Unit. This episode was a great season opener and kept me guessing.
Just to clear up a couple things:
Chani: Lee and Dualla are married; they mention it in their conversation about Lee being soft.
Tyrol does not know that Gaeta is the source. He only knows that Gaeta continues to serve as Baltar's assistant. If you saw the second part of the conversation after Gaeta leaves, Tyrol is talking to another member of the resistance and calls Gaeta a collaborator and doen't understand why he still works with Baltar. I had the feeling that Gaeta was the source, but I was hoping that Baltar himself was helping the resistance. Gaeta was the easy choice, but Baltar would have been a little more dramatic.

Wow, I never thought I would say this about Battlestar Galactica but it is simply the BEST show presently on television.
Better evn than The Wire, Lost or Veronica Mars and thats saying something.
This is a fascinating allegory on war, occupation and terrorism.
I do wonder if it would not be a better use of hardware if you were to use The Pegasus (a much newer and more powerful Battlestar) for the rescue operation.
J-Unit great recap and yes watch the webisodes they will fill in some of the gaps for you. Now that the season has started its not like there are going to be spoilers in them.

Great episode but I think they are delving into too much pop culture references to fit into their setting. Two off the top of my head are the Seinfeld swirl one and the homage to The Great Escape at the end with the prisoners being taken out in trucks, told to get out to stretch their legs then the centurions coming over a dirtpile ready to shoot them.

If you guys have never heard the podcasts that Exec Producer Ron Moore does, you should start. He answers a lot of the issues that previous posters have brought up. In this episode, he puts in the "swirl" comment because he's a great fan of Seinfeld. The end of the episode is a homage to the Great Escape, if I heard him correctly. Yeah, I guess it depends on what you want to see-the pop reference stuff gives a little light-heartedness to what otherwise is a very heavy show.
Someone mentioned the Pegasus - he said the reason they use the Galactica and not the Pegasus will be revealed in a future episode.

I agree with all of you who say this is the best show on TV. Two hours was not enough and I was wishing it wouldn't end.
Thanks for re-capping it, J-Unit!

Big fan of the show. I hope they don't spend all season getting them off the planet. Also, Leoben did mention that Kasey is half cylon. I wonder if she has the same properties as Sharon's baby who, I think, Sharon will find while she is on the planet.
