The Enemy of My Enemy

starbuck_shot_8-12-05Now that Commander Adama is back on his feet, things should pretty much return to normal for Battlestar Galactica and the rest of the human fleet, right? Well, Adama is a great leader, but let's be honest, Saul Tigh really left them in a hole. The two men are determined to pick up the pieces and move on, but they have a lot of work to do. It was hard enough to run the fleet when the President was cooperating with them. Now that she has decided to do her own thing, everything has become increasingly difficult. When you factor in that nobody knows how many Cylons are around or what they're planning to do, it's easy to understand how things could get so complicated.

As you can imagine, Adama's return to command was widely celebrated by the people under his command. They admired him, they looked upon him as a father figure, he had already led them through great adversity, and, as I've said before, Colonel Tigh managed to be a bad leader and was hated by almost everybody on his command. Unlike Tigh, Adama wants to lead, and when he returns to the bridge, he gives a nice hearwarming speech about how much every single person meant to him. You know, the typical "you are like my family" type of stuff.

To prove he means business, Adama is going to start by finding the fugitives, ie his son and the president, and bringing them to justice for the audacity they showed trying to defend democracy. They are going to find which ship they are on by implementing quarantine procedures. See, the fugitives are like a disease, and to rid the fleet of the disease, you take it through quarantine. Isolate a single ship from the fleet, search it, and if it's free, make sure that no other ships are able to reach it. Eventually, you are going to find what you are looking for or at least make the people hiding nervous enough that they will give up.

Roslin and Lee Adama have enlisted the help of Tom Zarek in order to hide them among the ships. Zarek was a criminal, and was once considered a terrorist, but holds lots of popular support. He and the President don't exactly see eye to eye on all of the issues, but now that they are both in the same boat with respect to Adama, they decide to work together. Zarek is keeping them safe, although since their current hiding place is inside of a refrigeration barge, sometimes the accommodations could be a little better. Everybody was ready to go up against Tigh, because he is inept (as if you needed me to tell you AGAIN) and has very little popular support. When they hear that Adama is back, they know that they are going to have to accelerate whatever plan they had and finish it.

Mike:

Did anybody else think that the make-up people forgot to put the salt-and-pepper back in Edward James Olmos's hair after shooting the flashback scenes of young(er) Adama and Tigh? The old man takes two bullets to the chest and wakes up looking fifteen years younger.

As someone who is hospital-phobic, believes that all doctors are secretly evil, and is Neanderthally skeeved out by all things having to do with pregnancy...this episode managed to punch almost every one of my buttons.

Jennifer:

I finally have Tivo!!! I am caught up with BG season 2 and boy oh boy is this show good! I for one loved that Gaius didn't get to speak for the whole episode, man I hate that self-serving whiner. When telling a friend about this show, I said that one of the best parts is that no one is pure good or evil. Adama is complicated and not perfect, and even the Cylons cause you to pause, they have some many human qualities. Nothing straightforward or predictible about this show.

Lady J:

Starbuck already knew Six was a Cylon 'cause she fought her for the Arrow. Copies were to be expected.

I'm thinking they harvested Starbucks eggs. Since the Cylons knew who she was and addressed her by name (Doc #2) and Boomer pointed out she was important to their plan. Question: who in the refugee group was a Cylon? Who knew that she was close to Anders?

I was very surprised when Adama did his whole I loved Boomer/Why?! thing. Which is great. I love being surprised by him.
