The Hottest Robot Sex You'll See on Basic Cable - TVgasm

by J-Unit

bsg_season2.jpg

If you're wondering what the hell the title of this post is talking about, you should tune in to catch the second season of Battlestar Galactica tonight on SciFi at 10PM Eastern. Battlestar Galactica is not really all about robot sex, although that does happen from time to time -- although one guy is apparently only dreaming of his robot sex. But whatever. The series (a remake of a show from the 70s) is about the Cylons, a bunch of humanoid cyborg/androids/robots/whatever that humans created and, of course, they decided that they wanted to exterminate us. The populations that weren't nuked into oblivion are left to flee from the Cylons in space (where else), forever being pursued. I am glossing over many, many of the more intricate details of the story, so check out the Battlestar Galactica homepage where you can watch the finale of the first season to get some context. I probably should have sent out this reminder when they were replaying all of the episodes on SciFi, or when NBC broadcast several episodes in HD this past week, but I think you'll live.

Despite all of the ridicule I get from some of the other staffers in TVgasm's Los Angeles offices, I am definitely going to tune in. And since there appears to be sufficient interest among readers, I will also be doing the recaps this summer as well.

Sweet!! I had no idea when the new season was starting AND ya'll are doing recaps...today is a good day!

::doing the happy dance::

Nice! I had no idea it was airing so soon. I loved the first season. Please do some recaps!

Please do recaps. The 1st season was awesome!

Oh, man I just saw the episode (yay east coast time). AWESOME.

Paul Scheer From Best Week Ever had a really Funny Blog Post on his website about Battlestar.

Please do recaps! It's a great show once you get into it.

Starbuck had the best line: "Bitch stole my ride."

I finally started watching this show a week ago after all the first season's episodes sat on my Tivo for months. I'm happy to say it was worth the 13 hour marathon viewing I had to have in order to get up to speed. Great show, with great casting. Can't wait to see more (and read the recaps).

Umm, a tutorial may be in order:

"Cyborg" is part machine, part human. Cyborg is short for "cybernetic organism." Cybernetics means, essentially, that input is influenced by output and output is, in turn, influenced by input -- cybrenetics is about feedback loops. A man with a mechanical arm that he controls via his mind, would, technically, be a "cyborg."

A robot, is, well, a robot. I won't get into the history of the term. Suffice it to say however that a robot is a machine that performs tasks that, after initial human design and intention, are conducted without direct and constant human command and control. A robot does NOT however have to look like a human -- as per the paint sprayers in most automobile factories.

"Android" is a robot with a human appearance. Here the word history comes into play -- "Andro" is from "Andros" which means "man." It's where we get the modern derivations such as "Anthropology" (study of man) and "Anthropomorphization" (imparting human like attributes to an inanimate or non-human thing). An Android is a machine, a robot, that looks human.

IN sum:

Cyborgs are part machine, part human (i.e., the "Borg" in Star Trek).

Robots are machines, no human components. They may or may not *look* like humans. If they do look human, and could fool a human with their appearance, they are more properly called Androids.

SO, umm, anyhow, it should be "Android sex..." in the title.

Of course there are hybrids... C3PO.. human looking, sort of... he's a "droid" but not a full ANdroid.

And now, this post, combined with a previous post about model rockets, I am consigned to Web-Geek Hell.

Dude that is sad you spent that much time correcting someone. You really should consider buying some sex to help you calm down.

I can't wait for the re-caps!

Elvis...they're not cyborgs, their humans made by robots. Which makes them neither androids or cyborgs, since their people but robots.

Shit I love this fucking show...

For any non-geeks that might be considering giving Galactica a first-look...please don't be scared off by the recent turn these comments have taken. It is, indeed, quite possible to fully enjoy Battlestar Galactica without actually having a dog in the "cyborg/android/robot/hybrid" fight.
