Beauty and the Geek: Project Superhero

This week, Beauty and the Geek taught us that the key to any good relationship is moral support, communication, and tight-ass pants (or, if you prefer, tight ass-pants).

"Save me! He's wearing Drakkar Noir!!"

We open on Sam & Nicole entering from elimination to a room full of awkward clapping and shit-eating grins. Everyone is disappointed that the Awesome Twins have returned (and that Male Awesome is doing the Running Man in celebration). "Everyone is worried that we're going to win all the challenges," Sam says matter-of-factly. "I know that scares people. I'm scared of myself!" Yeah, well, I'm scared of your spray-on tan and the sharpness of your spiky hair. Those things could really hurt someone if things get out of hand.

Later on, David is having a pow-wow with Joshua and Chez about the fact that they almost sent him to elimination for being such an unchangeable loser. "If you ever want to talk...." Joshua begins. I don't want to hear the end of that sentence. In any case, Dave decides to have a heart-to-heart with Jasmine about the state of things. As the night wears on while he builds the confidence to talk to her, we see shot after shot of him pouting in his boxers with a glass of Pinot Grigio and looking the way most people do when they start thinking... and drinking... which is a bad combination.

"Why, God, why?????"

He sits on the bed beside her. Excuse me one moment. *shudder* Okay, that's a little bit better - no wait - *shudder shudder* Ugh, just had to get that out. Anyway, he sits beside her and says, "I came upon the conclusion that I'm a terrible person." Yes, Dave, if all else fails (if "all else" is being a LARPer), the way to a girl's heart is with good ol' self-deprecation. Jasmine is forced to boost his ego, telling him that everyone just loooooovvves him and that he's a goooooood person. Give me a break. What this boy needs is a personal trainer and a good dominatrix, not a fucking enabler.

Jasmine sleepily tells him that they have much to learn about each other, themselves, blah blah blah... I think she fell asleep before finishing her sentence. Or maybe that was me. But it seems to make Dave feel better. (pussy whipped!)

The next day Handsome Host tells them that this week is their first team challenge, and they're going to Comicon, which, for those of you not in the know (and God bless you for that), is the greatest gathering of nerds, geeks, dweebs, and every variation thereof in probably the whole world. It's hard to imagine an event that would attract more dorks than a comic book convention. In celebration, William & John give each other the geekiest of high-fives, missing each other's outstretched hands completely.

"Heroes unite!"

The deal is, the beauties have to come up with a superhero character, including a breakdown of superpowers, secret identities, backstories etc, and the geeks have to design and execute a superoutfit for them. But basically what this means is that the next 45 minutes will be chock-full of bad comic book puns.

You know, for people who spend so much time on their beds together....

102307_5time2.jpg

... nobody ever gets it on. What's up with that?

Some of the teams are having a grand old time creating characters, which I think would actually be pretty fun, but some are having a tough time of it. Jasmine has already come up with her character, Princess Bedhead, from an ad for a product called... Bedhead. "Granted, it's printed right here, but I'm still really creative," she boasts. I'm sure Stan Lee would have to agree with you. Princess Bedhead's power is that of willing people to sleep. Baby, you do that to me EVERY WEEK when I have to hear you try to put together a coherent sentence. I can only imagine the moment she saw this ad and the idea came to her like Zeus to Callisto, the bright light and glow that must have bathed that magazine, with that "Hallelujah" song triumphantly playing in her pea brain. It must have been magical.

Loved the recap. I laughed through this entire episode last Wednesday. By the time Princess Narcolepsy hit the screen my sides hurt. Your recap was even funnier...and now I'm using a heating pad because you made me laugh too much.

One correction, though...Superman is faster than a speeding bullet, and more powerful than a locomotive.

Looking forward to next week...

Trey:

The stuffed animal Erin was holding was from the gift basket competition... She was impressed with the little unicorns and stickers, and Jesse was the one who made that basket (I believe...).

I'm not so sure about Jen. While I think it was awful for William to say those things about her, at the con, she blamed Will for making her fail, saying this was his field and he should have put more effort into it. Hello, she's the one who thought having super-boobs would make her win. I mean... really...

Also, I was really happy for Dave and Jasmine. He was so against her in the beginning, the way Shay was with Josh. And it seems like they'll become friends. At least he likes her more, now. I kind of hope that they will win. But I don't think that's possible. I still can be happy for them, though. :)

Thanks for the recap~

fire@will:

I think the cross-gender couple is the hands down favorite. Both are naturally equipped to dominate their respective gender-biased challenges. He is better at guy stuff than the other beauties. She is better at girl stuff than the other geeks. I hope the producers recognize their fundamental mistake and return to the original format.

Thanks for another great recap!

Fire@will,

I disagree and think the gender mix-up was a great move by the producers.

Sam is equally as air-headed than the girl Beauties (maybe even more so) and Nicole is just as ignorant about pop culture and social situations as the other Geeks.

So in fact, all teams are evenly matched.
