Big Brother Takes a Mulligan

bbas8-13-06Big Brother just got a whole lot crazier this week. Those of us who were watching Thursday saw Erika win the Head of Household competition, throwing the game into a tailspin. After losing Kaysar, season six was reeling, and with Erika as HoH, it didn't look good. But a lot of you may have noticed that their appeared to be issues with the competition. It looked like some of the equipment had malfunctioned, and it definitely changed the outcome. The producers decided to take the unprecedented step of redoing the HoH competition, kicking off what is sure to be one of the most intense weeks in the history of the game.

Now, we will get on to this whole new HoH business, but this is a recap, and I'm obligated to tell you how everybody dealt with the loss of Kaysar. I know it bugs a lot of people when I call Kaysar the most overrated player ever in the history of Big Brother, but, come on, it's true! I am not going to deny that he is perhaps the most popular contestant in Big Brother history, but Kaysar proved that he was a boy playing a man's game. That man is named Dr. Will, and none of Kaysar's solemn, rationalizing, overused, talk about how he was "not meant for this game" is going to change that fact, and to tell you the truth it shows how lame Kaysar is when he's using Jase's excuse to talk about his elimination. Kaysar would brag about how he is not scared of Dr. Will's game, but if this is the showdown Kaysar was envisioning than he looks like a chump, and Dr. Will gets better with every passing moment.

Once again, we had to hear from the houseguests about how difficult it was to get rid of Kaysar. James said that his game play sucks, but that he is a good person. Kaysar is a good person, but he's playing for the same reasons as anybody else, and that is the money. George said that Kaysar's elimination was the hardest one for him, but don't they say that every week? And wouldn't it have been easier on George if he, I don't know, VOTED TO KEEP KAYSAR IN THE HOUSE? Then we get Erika, who says that Kaysar made her not think about the game, and she must not have been thinking about it when she decided to vote him off.

It was bad enough that Kaysar played so dumb that he got himself eliminated, but it looked like his words were going to taint some of the other contestants, namely Chicken George. Janelle was going around saying that she was mad at Chicken George because he swore on his kids that he would vote for Kaysar. I haven't had a chance to follow the Live Feeds very heavily lately, so I am not sure if this was true, but the portion of the conversation the producers showed made no mention of George promising Kaysar anything other than he'll see what he can do, and you never know what happens.

bbas8-13-06a

Like I said, there could have been other conversations the producers didn't show, but there was something strange about Janelle complaining about sneaky players because she was complaining about George's tactics to Dr. Will, only the sneakiest player in the history of Big Brother. It is this kind of hypocrisy that makes you turn on people that you have previously rooted for. What's next? Is she going to complain to Howie that Mike Boogie masturbates too much?

Erika won the HoH competition, but there seemed to be some issues with some of the equipment. I chalked it up to bad luck, because several people had problems buzzing in. It happened one to Mike Boogie, but since the results of the whole thing were mostly in his favor, he didn't complain. The same cannot be said about Howie. After Howie was eliminated, he made a big deal about the whole thing. Now I know that he was upset, but other people were affected by it and the real reason that he complained was not because of the "technological technical difficulties" or some sense of fairness, but because nobody from his alliance won and he knew that he would be targeted. If Janelle or James had won, Howie would have shut his mouth.

Yay 1st post!!!

But I have nothing to say, except I think Erica got some Boogie in her.

Loved it when James said something like "seriously, you don't know what that means?" about pulling the wool over their eyes. And what a shock- Janelle targeted more women. She did it last season and she's doing it again. Ugh, I can't stand her.

Refresh my memory, but I thought Dr. Will's in-house romance from BB2 was with Shannon. I don't remember Nicole.

There is no BB6 alliance anymore. Kaysar was the last string holding them loyal to one another. They all want to be in on chilltown now. The only person that hasn't made a cross deal with chilltown is Howie and that's because he's dumb as a bag of rocks.

Really can't stand James - what a self-righteous jerk. Wonder how he's going to try to convince Janelle that he's with her in getting Danielle out when he really has to work to save Danielle. And I thought it was rich that he complained that the only elimination votes he got were from his alliance - the alliance that he betrayed!

I'm with you on the whole coup d'etat. It could make things interesting on Thursday, but there is no way for the viewers to know if the person who wins the coup d'etat really won, or if CBS just handed it to the person they like the most. And I can't believe everybody was rushing with their bad guesses. Didn't the Chenbot say they'd get several clues? I wouldn't be surprised if Julie tells them that they were all wrong and no one won!

I wish Janelle would wise up to James!

J unit. Why are you Janelle bashing? Don't make me come off my chair and get ghetto up in here. Nearly every nomination is personal even though everyone says it's not. This has been consistent through every season of BB. Why pick on Janelle for it now?

OK. Janelle is in heat and hasn't gotten laid in a month. Causing her to listen to all the swinging dicks around her. James = "Nominate Marcy". Will = "Nom Marcy and James". Boogy = "Nom Anyone but Erika".

The people who really see what's going on, Howie and Marcy, are telling her to put up ChillTown but she's not listening because she don't want their swinging willies. Surprise!!! Janelle makes nominations based on jealousy and pheromones. Unless this girl get Penis' off her mind she's doomed.

P.S. I think the re-do was a good idea. Not because I'm a Janelle fan (I am, so what?) but because it's fair. (That sounds very whimpy, but true).

TheKid Author Profile Page:

Wasn't it last week when they showed the clips of Boogies and Dr. Wills mothers? Didn't Boogies Mom say that she thought if Boogie had an aliance it would most likely be with Erika? So based on that, I am assuming that Boogie and Erika have been going at it, outside of the BB house. Now he's going to be in a pickle as to which girl to save. He can't admit to either one about the other alliance. Should be a good week.

And does anybody else think it was totally stupid to throw away your one and only guess with only one clue? I mean come on. At least wait for the second clue to see if it confirms your idea. Idiots. I am glad so many of them wasted their only guess.

One last thing. I have almost as much hatred of James as I do for my supervisor. And that's a lot of hatred. Self righteous prick!

Also, the Erika/Boogie chilltown connection is the perfect turn of events. She doesn't play the game all she does is what other people tell her too so it fits that she'd try to go in with aces up her sleeve.

I thought there were supposed to be more clues for the coup d'etat. If the phrase is something like like "you are safe," don't we need a clue for each word?

And I don't understand how they are going to announce the winner on Thursday, but the coup can be used any time in the next three weeks. Someone who can follow this better, please help me out.

Janelle has three HoH and 2 vetos. She'll probably guess the coup d'etat, get the prom queen vote, and win another veto before the end of next week. I agree with Danielle on this: Just give her the money already.

As annoyed as I am with Janelle this season, I still love her. She plays to win. Yeah, yeah, she goes after the female competition; but you know what? She actually takes them down. That's got to be respected on some level.

Also let me say that I love Danielle. Because at the end of the day she is actually having fun with the game; and it's really refreshing. The person I'm having the most trouble with is James. I thought he hated Janelle. I thought she was the dumbest person to ever play the game. SO WHY ARE YOU THE FIRST ONE AT HER SIDE AFTER SHE WINS HOH?! I guess to advance himself farther in the game- but still. It's gross.

They were right to do a redo of the HOH comp because everyone wasn't on equale footing in this HOH competition. Regardless of who came in with whom, when it comes to HOH there can (usually) only be one winner and with wonky buttons it wasn't an even playing field having to figure out how to make the tech work.

and finally- ERIKA, EEEWWWWWWWW!

Have to say, if I was there, I'd be aligning with the golden girl in hopes of getting to the top--I wish Dani would make another secret alliance with Janelle, and tell her about James, and then back door him!

I'll give Dani props for "do not assume" but is it me . . . seems a little too obscure for them, I'm with the "You are safe, You are the next head of household, line of thinking, but I don't care what it is . . .

They may not show it, but I think Janelle must have suspicions about James, and why isn't she telling Marcy about all the stabbing on him . . . wouldn't that get him to change his bitchy tune, shouldn't he know she's protecting him!?

Oh well, whatever happens, please let James or Boogie get the back door . . . please!!!

I do enjoy how CT keeps it interesting, but I'd kinda like to see Dani and Jani take it to the end . . .

J-Unit, why are you congratulating the chenbot? she just had to re-run the HOH contest application (without last one to buzz in option).

I imagined the Chenbot in a different state. Strapped in her harness, probably having her power source recharged while the new daily software programs and updates are downloaded. But I agree that the mechanics and technicians where in the middle of their daily maintenance and repairs to the outer shell and chelmet.

First of all, the "Ewe are an idiot" comment was hilarious. I was thinking the same thing.

Speaking of CG, can someone PLEASE explain to me James' utter hatred of George? Every week he talks about getting him out! And the whole "he swore on his kids" thing is ridiculous. Another example of no one bothering to ASK the person if they really said or did something (see: Marcellas winning the TV and trip).

I must have blinked and missed Erika and Boogie in bed. I was wondering what her "Town called Chill" comment meant. Thanks again, tvgasm!

I cannot WAIT to see who wins the coup d'etat!

j-unit, methinks i detected quite the conspiracy-theorist-ish undertone of skepticism about the game's integrity in your recap. i must concur.

what, is this the third or fourth time in the last five years where either an equipment malfunction or a chenbot glitch has resulted in a disputable HoH competition? and how many times in the past--despite clear photographic evidence (the most glaring example being marvin's 'win' over karen in the BB5 putt-putt comp)--has CBS overturned and replayed the HoH comp? that's right. zero. in the case of marvin and karen, they didn't even have to play the game over--karen clearly won; they could have simply told marvin to hand over the key--but despite the fact that a lot of people noticed and complained, marvin stayed in power (and likely avoided eviction). which makes me slightly suspicious that, had janelle won the 1st time, the outcome would have stood.

add in the fact that a number of the competitions over the past few weeks have been suspiciously lacking in transparency. as juddfan pointed out last week, the graveyard veto comp was set up in such a way that the production staff could easily sway the outcome. similarly, as j-unit observed here, there doesn't seem to be any way of guaranteeing the fairness of the 'coup d'etat' challenge, either.

add to these observations the fact that, by all accounts, big brother's ratings are well below last summer's, advertisers are starting to jump, and thursday night's episode concluded with the eviction of the most popular houseguest ever among viewers and leaving the second most popular houseguest #1 on the hit-list for the next week.

it's hard, given how easily the luck seems to be rolling for janelle, not to suspect that shapiro/grodner or CBS is manipulating the outcome. i have no doubt that the houseguests are being coached on creating 'story-arcs' by producers in the diary room (the 'showmance' storyline between janelle and will seems an obvious example of this, with their forced 'frolics' in sinks, showers, and bathtubs), and strongly suspect that some of the more nonsensical decisions (especially kaysar's refusal to nominate chill-town and the 'take out the floaters' strategy) were influenced by grodner, et al.

sure, the HoH comp couldn't have been rigged for janelle to win, but it gave her another chance, either that she'd win or that the winner might be someone who wouldn't nominate janelle (probably only howie would qualify, but boogie or will might have kept her around to make the others miserable). and, just like the US olympic basketball team in '72, everyone who'd been excited about erika's win must have felt distracted, frustrated, and annoyed during the do-over, and were probably not at their sharpest, as opposed to janelle, who, whatever else you want to say about her, is cool in the clutch and tough to beat twice on the same day.

as for the coup d'etat: it seems sort of foolhardy to guess solely based on the first clue, but more than half of them did. i wonder if it's occurred to the houseguests that the producers can pick anyone whose answer isn't completely ludicrous. i'm sure they already suspect that janelle's getting a little 'help from above.'

as for boogie and erika: er . . . i don't know, erika--maybe you had boogie in your pocket before the game, but if you didn't, you are definitely getting played. it could end up getting ugly.

Thanks Jack, seems I'm not the only one smelling BB's influence (you're even naming names!)

Though I like Janelle (almost only on the show) it's lousy to think there's shady dealings behind the scenes.

I heard Loo voted for the high school postitions, but really, do we doubt miss janelle wont be the queen--when it comes to America, she's always tops!

And I also agree, chances are . . . the new power will go to none other than . . . Janelle, or perhaps, someone too afraid to use it.

Vidle (#3): You're right. Shannon was Will's "showmance" (a word I liked when I first heard it, but now loathe b/c of its overuse, largely by Boogie) back in Season Two.

Nicole was the runner-up to Will that season. She was one of those people who was targeted in week 1 of the season, only to fight back and make it to the end.

The reason she "won" the game for Will is because her abrasiveness (the reason she was nominated in week 1) was too much for people; at least they appreciated Will's honesty about being deceptive. Their season was one where the evicted HG's got to go home (instead of sequester) and watch all the episodes up until the final vote night. Thus, they could weigh Will's duplicitous strategizing versus Nicole's thorny personality as the basis for the vote.

pearlblackdragon Author Profile Page:

Sorry not the last clip
:(...this is the one I meant to post.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJE_4DPaSMA

I think it is funny how up-in-arms folks are getting about whether or not this season is rigged. We've known for years that "reality TV" has do-overs, retakes, and scripted lines. I don't watch this show to see who wins the most PoV's or HoH's. I watch for the characters and the scheming. If either Janelle or Will were voted out, I would probably stop watching altogether. So, yes, CBS, keep up the Chenanigans. I want good TV; not fairness!!!

P.S. Marcy said on Live Feeds (NOT a SPOILER!) that they all have now made $25,000 by being in BBAS House this long, so it's not about the Prize Money. Even the losers of this game end up handsomely paid.

aholic Author Profile Page:

J-Unit - I haven't been a fan of the "go after the floaters" strategy either. However, you keep saying Janelle started this. But wasn't it Danielle's idea in Week 1 to try to get Jase to disagree with Janelle's co-HOH nominations so that Jase and Janelle would go on the block....and then they would vote out Janelle.

So, I think Danielle did attack first.

ah yes, aholic, you are right!

I forgot to say, duh, James, when 2 of your alliance are on the block, one of you has to get votes--and that they'd prefer Kaysar to you . . . hello . . .

And subgenre, I'm sure they get the money from those text votes--whatta ya think, they make like a million and then give ten percent to the winner . . . (oh well, had to vote on the diry hands)

Laska Author Profile Page:

I wanted to slap James worse than usual when he started complaining about the only votes voting to evict him came from his "alliance". Uh, dude, if they had voted for Kaysar, would you still complain that they betrayed the alliance? I don't recall a non- Season 6 option. Idiot.

james_woods_rules Author Profile Page:

So I guess Booger and evil are voting for Erika to stay????? (or using the POV on her, NOT danielle....)

J Unit Author Profile Page:

jack,

You got it exactly right. I am able to handle my share of shenanigans, but the producers shouldn't get onto their high horse and talk about "fairness" in this competition because they have never bothered before.

subgenre,

I don't care how fair reality TV is either, but when the producers use it as en excuse to redo a competition then "fairness" becomes something to complain about. Look at the Amazing Race. If a team loses because a tire blows out, they don't make every team redo the leg. If somebody has, say, a bowel obstruction on survivor, they don't stop the competition until that person gets better. It sucks, but those are the breaks

aholic,

very good point. The only thing I could counter with is that Danielle never actually nominated anybody, so her talk of getting rid of Janelle was just talk until Janelle actually nominated her. Danielle's move was not aimed at Janelle specifically but season six in general; and there is nothing to say that Danielle wouldn't have tried a similar strategy with any HoH pairing that was up at the time.

Seriously, though, BB has to investigate these claims and if they're true, shut 'em down!

Thanks for the great summary. It spared me the boredom of actually watching the show--which I swore I would never do again once I heard about the switch with Erika/Janelle. I was a major Season 6 fan until they proved themselves so inept and stupid in not busting Chilltown, and now I've come full circle and am rooting for those two jerks. This show has always sucked, but at least it was fun sometimes. The times have been too few during this season, so I'll skip the commericals and get my fix here. Thanks.

Ed Author Profile Page:

First - CG never said he would give Kay his vote, let alone the "searing on his kids" baloney. Kay lied to Janie about that. I saw it when this went down. Kay flat lied.

Second - the buzzers absolutely screwed Howie out of a legitimate chance the first time. Given that his was not the only malfunctioning buzzer, it is clear that the equipment was substandard.

HOWEVER - there was no reason to let back in Will and Janie. They each went off for being wrong. It had nothing to do with electronics. They should not have restarted from the beginning.

As for the coup...i am satisfied that it wasn't fixed. The way it played out was very obvious and several players were still alive to make a guess.

You want controversy? Howie and Erika are still supposed to be on slop thanks to Janie's graveyard sellout of the house (two-weeks on slop penalty for the four non-players). They each are on regular food now (5 days early), but poor CG is made to stick to his pov penalty from before. Chenanigans!

That was amazing video!! Funny as hell. I really didn't care for CT before, but they won me over with their audacity.

The best part, aside from the resturant plugs, is Will saying that he is loosing money by being in the house, unless he wins it all. I guess he barely breaks even then. So, with my basic math skills, I peg him making $2million a year (before taxes)?

I'm guessing Will makes even more than 2 million. Aside from his practice he is an investor in the restaurants and in some weird teddy bear company. He's still making money while being in the house. And it's really not a sacrifice for him to be there financially, even if he doesn't win he will get tons of publicity.

I've gone from supporting season 6 to rooting for CT. As annoying as they are they have shown they are superior in their game playing. It's actually amusing to see how blind people are to what they are doing in the house.

I missed Sunday's episode, but I already had known the outcome to the re-do of HOH, so I figured I didn't miss much. But the recap was good.

Babeblue (#33)- Erika was trying to make nice-nice after just evicting Kaysar, being totally two faced and I'm guessing Janie saw through that.

scorpiella Author Profile Page:

Wow.

You have really turned on the Season Sixers. That's sad.

Howie complained (rightfully so) the minute he was kicked out and James was still in the competition. We all know that James is no longer with them, but he doesn't, so you can't really say he was only complaining because no one from his alliance won.
If you rewatch the tape, he was one of the first to buzz in and he was eliminated. There is no way CBS would risk a lawsuit over this low rated show by rigging it.

So Janelle "won" the Sham of Household. Not once since I've heard about it has anyone been able to explain to me how the technical difficulties caused her or Will to answer incorrectly the first time around. And for someone who did answer wrong, she's awfully arrogant about being such an awesome player.

Tony A. Author Profile Page:

I guess the precedent was set in Season 6 for significant others to play along with their mates in the house. James and Sarah were the first example, even though there were several showmances, including the infamous lovemaking on camera by Amanda. However, to allow two business partners AND the live-in girlfriend of one, people quite capable and likely to decide to split the prizes no matter which of the three wins (assuming one does) stretches the credibility of this show way beyond the snapping point. I say the producers are on a par with the ones that colluded to create the scandal of "The $64,000.00 Question". BB needs to carefully evaluate the backgrounds of its contestants or risk what's already happening- declining ratings and poor TV of a once-interesting show. I'll watch the rest of this season but I'll be among the missing next season, if there is one.

Whoa, Nelly...

I think people are jumping the gun on this Boogie/Erika thing. First, it's very difficult to keep something like this a secret on the feeds for 5 weeks. Even if the Producers attempted to black out conversations. It's impossible for Boogie not to make some type of overture to Erika besides the 2 UTube presentations which, the first is really ambiguous and the second appears to be ChillTown fucking with the internet fans as they usually do.

All of Boogie's strategy, and Will's for that matter has been to let Erika fall if it fits their plan...to string her along when possible. And nowhere in their secret talks have Boogie said anything about his live-in girlfriend. I think it's all balderdash.

I do believe, however, that Will, Boogie and Erika (who is a casting director for CBS which should have eliminated her from participating in the first place), got their directions from the DR this week to play this relationship up simply for the dramatic aspect of it.

Case #1. Erika was on the block before and CT hardly lifted a finger to save her. There was a good chance she was going.

Case #2. It's impossible to have your girlfriend in the house for 5 weeks and feign feelings for her.

Case #3. It's impossible that any strategical conversation between Will and Boogie didn't include his "girlfriend" Erika. If it had been why wouldn't the producers show it. Simply for the fact that it would have caused major bru-ha-ha for the internet fans.

Case #4. I think this was manufactured last minute to bring drama because fan-fave Kaysar is gone. Will, Boogie and Erika are not above playing against the rules and acting out scripts for the Producers. Will has said it before that he gets his directions from them.

Case #5. James and Sarah failed in their attempt. And even then live feeds showed their convo's and private hookups.

No real alliance there. I think it's all a last minute sham to shore up ratings.

Do we really think Boogie and Erika have anything going after Boogie so blantantly said that he didn't care if she got voted out this week? The truth will be told at the eviction this week... if LoD pushes for Marcellas we will have a clearer picture of where Boogie lies... besides the "Jack Shack".

I used to agree with those people that hated Chill Town. Will was the only returning winner and I didn't think he would return with the same juice as Season 2. I also admit that I was all about BB6 to start out the Season... Kaysar, even though incredibly nieve, was my favorite, but unfortunately the day that Kaysar started dominated and overcame all his shortcomings as a player never came. I have gotten to the point that I can't stand Janelle. She has a 3 opportunities to rid the House of Chill Town and never even once made a real thought about it. She is stupid and as James said "Deserves to be evicted". Howie has turned into a petulant child that I can't even listen to anymore.... SOOOOOO After watching Chill Town move every target that has landed on thier backs to other players I gotta give them props. They, by they I mean 75% Will and 25% Boogie, deserve to win this and at this point it looks like no one will be able to stop them. So go Will and go Chill Town! I want the evil Doctor to take them all down and show them exactly how stupid they all are.

As for the Coup de Tat... what a joke... you have to reveal the answer to America because if not you can give it to any schmo with a reasonable answer and that is exactly what the producers are doing... they are going to give it to Janelle or Howie and extend the Season 6 Drama out for a few more weeks. Because really without season 6 LoD goes unoppossed to the final 4 and it makes for some really boring BBAS and the producers know this.
