karen_faceThe reason why we love Big Brother is the unpredictable nature of the whole thing. Alliances form early, and then fail. People are nearly unanimously loved in the house, then hated with a pure wrath. A person is in power one week, then they are gone the next. A person has great strategy at one point, then it goes horrible wrong later. All the opposites of these scenarios are true as well. If you had bet me at the beginning that Michael would be among the last five contestants, and Nakomis would have won three HoH competitions plus a veto, I would have taken those odds. After lamenting that nobody was thinking far enough ahead, Diane finally stepped up and decided to take a chance. There hasn't been a lot of back stabbing among the final group left in the game, so it was going to be interesting to see what lengths people would go to in order to extend their tenure in the house.

Thursday marked the return of our regularly scheduled Julie Chen outing. The Chenbot has had a tough season. With rumors flying around about a wedding and a bun in the oven, you can understand why Julie has not always been on top form. It has been several weeks since we caught sight of the camel toe, and we have yet to see her blow a fuse and get really angry at people for not paying attention during the challenges. Julie lost the tops with oddly spaced holes, and went back to more traditional morning news host fare. She had a jacket on, for I believe the first time this year, and she resumed the speedy "But first!" pace we have grown to love. Looks like the Chenbot has had her adjustments and is ready to go.

After using the veto to save Drew, Diane really had a unique point of control for this late stage of the game. She correctly assumed that she would only be the third wheel with Karen and Nakomis around. Her chances of being the second wheel are not great with Michael, but much better with Drew. From her standpoint, she had nothing to lose. Karen took for granted that with Nakomis as HoH she would safe. After the apparently dubious circumstances surrounding the veto competition, she should have been more skeptical. More importantly, she should have been gotten friendlier with Diante. Even though Diane was telling Karen and Nakomis that it would be a tie, she was the mastermind behind the whole scheme to get rid of Karen in the first place. Michael, although fairly sure Diane was good to go, seemed prepared to leave the house as well, knowing Diane has been the hardest person to read this whole summer. And while I have called Michael dumb many times, he was savvy enough to realize that if the vote was tied, his sister would send him home with no problem.
