2006 Scripps National Spelling Bee, 6/1/06, ABC

Like many fascinated viewers, I watched the 2006 Scripps National Spelling Bee last night, and while the event surely had its share of quirky words, one moment really caught me off guard. Was anyone else surprised by this?

Sad. He's been studying for this spelling bee so hard, he wasn't able to watch any American Idol (or read any recaps on TVgasm)!!

But seriously, that was hilarious! You actually had me fooled for the first few seconds.

I swear I thought I was the only one who watched the show last night. I asked everyone at work and nothing. Thank you for posting and watching; I thought it was great. Poor kid, what a word to get.

It's odd that he didn't get one letter right -- you'd think a good speller like him would! I guess the mystique of Mandisa will continue on.

By the way, your Clipgasms are getting better and better. I seriously look forward to them on a regular basis. Bravo!

Every time I see the pic of this kid, I think of the uncertain "mandisa??" and crack up.
