TVgasm Recaps

Recently, we held two contests for DVD giveaways. One for Smallville and one for The OC. The contest was open to everybody (in the US or Canada) and all we asked was that you tell us your favorite moments from each season. Winners were determined by pooling all of the emails in chronological order and then picking random numbers do determine the winners. Hear from the winners after the jump.

When it comes to TVgasm and our readers, we have a bad case of loving you. And now that I think I can happily say that I have won the most painful use of a Robert Palmer quotation in a post for 2005, let's go on with what this post is really about. You might as well face it, we're giving away some more DVDs. The theme this time is NBC medical programs. We have four, yes four, copies of ER The Complete Fourth Season, and one copy of Scrubs The Second Season to giveaway to our readers.

We wish that we could have had these giveaways sooner so that someone special could have a nice little present under the tree or by the menorah, or proximal to whatever Festivus pole you might have lying around, but because we want to give people a few weeks to enter and TVgasm staff will be spending parts of the holidays with various loved ones (not to mention, we are a little lazy about mailing these things out sometimes), you should most likely plan on these as gifts to that special Aquarius in your life. As always, your only entry fee is an e-mail to contests@tvgasm.com. To make things slightly interesting, we ask that you name your favorite moment for either show when you enter. Make sure the subject of your e-mail has either "ER Season 4 DVD" or "Scrubs Season 2 DVD" in the subject line. Because there is only one Scrubs set, we will be taking submissions until Friday, December 16th. Because we have many more ER sets, we would like to give as many people as possible a chance, and submissions will last until January 9th, 2006.

ER season 4 comes out on DVD December 20th, and for you die hard ER fans, you can order it on DVD and still have it get to your home in time for Christmas. People are probably sick of reading how much we love our readers, but it's true. I never thought that I would ever author a post dedicated to Gilmore Girls. I have never seen an episode, but I have enough friends that watch to tell me that I should mention Lorelai and Rory. It doesn't mean anything to me, but I do know Becky is no Gail. So what is important enough that I would decide to mention Gilmore Girls? More free DVDs, of course.

Season 5 of Gilmore Girls comes out on DVD tomorrow, December 13th. I know that many of you will be rushing out to the stores to buy it since there are only twelve more shopping days left to find something special for that tv-obsessed viewer you care about. And although these DVDs won't make it in time to become a stocking stuffer, with any luck, you'll get these DVDs in time to make a great Valentines Day gift. The rules are simple as always. You only need to e-mail contests@tvgasm.com to enter, with the subject Gilmore Girls Season 5 DVD. Since I don't know anything about the show, I had to get a little bit of help distinguishing the fans from the fakers. So, along with your entry, please let us know if you think Jess has been good or bad for the show, and whether you want to continue seeing him. It doesn't have to be paragraphs long, we just want to do something to make sure only the most desperate of Gilmore Fans enter. We'll be taking entries until Friday, January 13th, 2006.

Well everybody, last night was the premiere of Survivor 12 AKA Survivor: Panama: Exile Island. I had no clue that Survivor was starting last night, so I didn't get a chance to preview the cast or do my customary Survivor Pick 'Em last week. I can't punish the loyal readers by not having a contest, so we'll still have the contest, although the suspense factor will be ratcheted down a touch since we already know the first person who was voted off last night. Overall, I really liked the first episode, and the Exile Island is a good idea that I think will add a nice touch, mainly because it increases the chances somebody goes completely crazy. Since some people haven't seen it or are waiting for the recap, please refrain from discussing the show in the comments on this post. But feel free to make fun of the cast as you see fit.

The new season of Survivor really snuck up on me, so I didn't have time to do the customary contest, but that doesn't mean we can't get in the mood for The Amazing Race. Yes, in one week, Phil is back, and now that the teams are back down to a more manageable size, we expect a return to greatness. To celebrate the return of The Amazing Race(Check local listings.), we though we would have a contest for our readers to pick the winners. If you missed out on your chance to win authentic TVgasm merchandise from any of our other challenges, you still have time to take part in this little giveaway fever we've been having the last month or so.

To tell you the truth, I hope that I didn't have to remind anybody that the sixth and possibly final season of The Sopranos is starting next month (Check local listings). The Sopranos is one of the best showcases for original series on premium cable. Although it has never had to go up against the juggernaut that is Desperate Housewives it has always enjoyed one of the most loyal followings of any program on television. I could gush on and on about the writing, the directing, the acting, and the special guests, but by now you already know whether you love this show or not. Whatever the case may be, we're having another giveaway to give out some free Sopranos stuff. I know, TVgasm having a giveaway, it's hard to imagine.

The Sopranos premieres Sunday March 12 9PM EST, so if you aren't into Cheerleader Nation, this might be more your speed. This was a difficult contest to judge. The volume alone was astounding. Tens of tens of readers submitted trivia questions -- the sheer volume alone required B-Side's coffee to go un-warmed, J-Unit's daily mid-day foot massage had to be moved to every other day, and I had to chew my own food as the TVgasm interns were aflutter sorting through all the submissions. Needless to say, we are happy for things to get back to normal around here.

WOW! What a response!! I recieved over 400 entries for part two of the Scene It? Friends edition giveaway. And I learned something about our readers... you guys soooooo Googled answers. There is no way we would have a 90% accuracy rate on the questions otherwise. All I have to say is I am appalled!! I take the time to get prizes, put together a contest, go through the emails, send out packages to the winners and you ten percent don't have the decency to Google the correct answers. Sigh.

Remember back in January when I announced a Laguna Beach giveaway? No? Well, I did. I wanted readers to submit proof that they were the ultimate Laguna Beach fans, and in return, they'd win a free copy of Laguna Beach: Life Inside the Bubble from Simon & Schuster. Several months have passed without any news of a winner since then, and that's pretty much my fault. I know -- that's like totally standard. Before Paul Reubens was caught doing things in a movie theater that would make him blind, he brought us the loveable character of Pee-Wee Herman. Most of us remember Pee Wee from Pee-Wee's Playhouse and Pee-Wee's Big Adventure (still one of the greatest movies EV-AR), Reubens actually developed the character and performed the act onstage at the Roxy Theater on Sunset. The Pee-Wee Herman that was performed at the Roxy was not a children's show, but now that most of us who loved Pee-Wee are old enough to get the jokes, they've decided to release it on DVD. TVgasm is lucky enough to be giving away five copies of the DVD to our readers. Entering the contest, as always, is simple. Tonight at 10 o'clock on A&E Gene Simmons Family Jewels makes its debut as we finally get to see what goes on in an aged rock stars home as he deals with an ambitious wife and children growing up in the show of a rock star family. How is this not The Osborne's? The Osborne's had funny accents. Ok, well that and The Osborne's first season was warm and awkwardly likeable and uninhibited as where the first episode of Family Jewels feels incredibly scripted, from the first time we see Gene designing his son's band's logo, to his 13 year-old daughter getting picked up on by much older men while playmate mom makes jailbait jokes.

If I clearly seem turned off by the show, why am I mentioning it? Because, the good people at A&E's PR company, have offered me some goodies to give away to you all. I have some key chains (lame) and autographed Gene Simmons Books (kinda cool) to give out to our readers. How do you win them?

Those of you who watched the Live Blog of Project Runway last night heard about a great new giveaway from TVgasm. In case you missed all of the excitement from last week, TVgasm wanted to remind everybody about the greatest contest EVAR. As some of you know, I am not only a sarcastic asshole, who spends much of his time mocking deformed babies, fighting the war on Paris Hilton and developing man-crushes, I am also the founder of The Summer Hope Foundation. And what's the point of being a huge internet celebrity if you can't use it to your advantage? Summer Hope is a non-profit organization that supports the fight against cancer (alas none of our proceeds go to getting Paris exported) through fundraising events, such as "Drink for the Cure" ("We hate cancer... but we love to drink") and "Rock Out for the Cure" ("The Let's Kick Cancer In The Ass" Concert Series). With the money raised at these events we donate money to cancer research facilities as well as fund our own internal programs, like the HOPE package, which we send out to people diagnosed of cancer. This Friday, September 29, 2006 is the 4th Annual Summer Hope Benefit, our biggest fundraising event of the year. Incidentally, the place we are having the event, Leonard's of Long Island, is the same place where Allegra Sachs got married on The Soprano's last season. You see, my committment to television knows no bounds... Regardless, the reason I am posting this is because at the Summer Hope Benefit we hold an EBAY auction with all sorts of fancy Celebrity autographed crap, that I thought some of you might be interested in. A few weeks back, J-Unit created a forum thread for a photoshop contest, but we never announced what the prize will be. Well MTV has offered a his and hers prize pack, that Includes stickers, t-shirts, a mug, and an MTV tote bag to promote their new show, MTV's Little Talent Show wich airs weekdays at 6:00pm. Thus making the total prize pack worth about as much as the daily contestants win on the show. So let's see which of you has what it takes in our TVgasm Little Photoshop Talent Contest. Many people may not know, but I am a fan of bad movies. It took me a little while to gain an appreciation for them, but now I am a sucker for any movie that can be described using words like zombie, evisceration, or "Starring Mila Jovovich" (I keed Mila, I love you, but I want my money back for Ultraviolet). Some people say that these films have no redeeming value, but I think there is some great value in going to a theater just to be scared, or to laugh at how hard the other people are trying to make you scared. Therefore, I was very happy to get a chance to see Going to Pieces: The Rise and Fall of the Slasher Film ahead of it's premiere this Friday, October 13th (how appropriate!) at 9PM EST as part of Starz Fear Fest 06. When Innterube launched a few months back, it was a wasteland of sucktastic failed CBS pilots and low budget new media projects. . . many months have gone by and I am happy to report ... well it's still a lot of that BUT it's a great place to catch the shows you like and may have missed including SURVIVOR and THE AMAZING RACE. When Mark Burnett introduced Americans to Survivor back in the summer of 2000, he realized that a lot of people would enjoy seeing other people fight to win for a million dollars. Although I always thought it would be fun to be on Survivor, I realize that my lazy ass wouldn't last very long. As I survey some of the other reality competitions out there, I realize that there really aren't really that many reality competitions that I would be successful at. After all, they don't have a competition that rewards people for being lazy and knowing lots about television do they? Actually, they do. the game is called Gold Rush, it's brought to you by Mark Burnett, and you can actually win real money. Now, I probably should have talked about Gold Rush back when it was first announced in September, but better late than never and all that type of shit. While it is clearly an exercise in online marketing on a number of levels, it does allow those of us who fear malnutrition or Julie Chen to flex our pop culture muscles and win some money. The actual chances of winning anything may be slim, but the chances that you can waste at least half your day away at work are quite high. The only requirements are an AOL Screen Name and I'll gladly accept the 10% finders fee should any of you win.

Ah crap, this is freakin sweet! With only a couple more weeks until Family Guy returns to with new episodes on November 12, 9:00pm on FOX, and since I'm such good pals with the series creator, Seth Macfarlane, I thought now might be a good time for a fun filled Family Guy giveaway.

It has been far too long since I offered a give away, almost a week!? Well my dutiful readers. . . to help promote SPIKE TV's Game Head: Call of Duty 3: Challenge which airs Friday November 10th at 12:30ET/PT on SPIKE TV, we will give away three CALL OF DUTY 3 games for the Xbox 360. Is this just another shameless shilling of a show for the sake of getting free stuff? Ok, initially yes but then I heard what the show was going to be.

The press release describes it as being shot "at a secret military base this past September, when 16 unsuspecting average-Joe gamers arrived straight from their couches and game rooms to be confronted by real-life military drill sergeant.." I still watch any daytime show that throws kids in military camps, or fatty's in boot-camp, so this was right up my alley. Then the press release got boring, bla bla bla "mental challenges" bla bla bla "obstacle course" lame lame lame... until "Challenges culminate in a sudden-death paint-ball "Deathmatch" competition." JACKPOT! As long as any of this is stylistically shot in the same tone as the Call Of Duty games, I'm so there. If I watch it and the show blows, hey...at least I got a few of you a free copy of the XBOX 360 version of Call Of Duty 3, which is released on Nov 7th.

It's time for an important update in our America's Next Top TVgasm Writer contest. We have some finalists and a winner.

First, the finalists. For Survivor, Schoonie and Gary will be battling it out for the right to document Jeff Probst's every televised move. They'll be each submitting a recap of the season premiere on February 8th, and from there, you'll vote via the comments section on your fave.

We were going to announce the finalists for Days of Our Lives too, but I just realized I had forgotten to post someone's submission (sorry!), and that's not really fair. Be sure to read the Days samples, including the new one that's up, and I'll announce finalists next week (click here to go to the Days of Our Lives samples).

A few weeks back I mentioned in the forums that I think it's time for change. Specifically what I said was, "I think its high time TVgasm undergoes a make over. I think we can all agree the main page is a bit cluttered. Maybe all over the place. Ads are at times imposing and not well integrated into the site and there is so much content on the site, its become a little hard to navigate."

At the time I suggested a contest for you guys to come up with a new design for the site. I delayed announcing it fully until I had a killer prize. Im still working on that, but I dont want to delay. So fuck it. Even though the prize is TBD (it wont suck, I promise) I thought I'd open it up to you guys now.

A while back in an effort to consolidate all my remotes for my TV's, DVD Player, BluRay, VCR, DVD recorder, CDplayer, Radio, XBOX 360 and Cable/DVR. . . I was given a great all in one remote as a gift. The Logitech 880. I must have registered it online because now I get emails about upcoming products.

Why do you care about my remotes and emails? Well, last week I got an email announcing the Logitech Harmony One which is supposed to be the new must have remote, and thought maybe they'd want to give us a few to giveaway in exchange for shamelessly promoting it on TVgasm. One email later and I have 3 of these remotes for a few of our lucky readers.

At $250 per remote, this is more expensive that my first TV I bought upon moving to LA 6 years ago, but I can honestly say of the Logitech Harmony line, if you are fortunate enough to be able to treat yourself, this is a must have. . . if you aren't, thats what TVgasm is here for.
