I really hate exclamation points (sorry Meeshie), so the fact that I placed three in a row together in the title of this post should give you an indication of how much I enjoyed Dancing with the Stars. The show doesn't wow you with its production values, but in the abyss that is summer programming, it just seems to work. Say what you will about the "celebrities" chosen, but they all have their own unique style. Luckily, the dances this week, the rumba and the quick step, focused much more on the skill of the celebrities, giving us a lot more to enjoy, and plenty of fodder for us to laugh about.
I think I read somewhere that some people were trying to make ballroom dancing a Winter Olympics sport. God, would that ever add some excitement to the Winter Olympics. Seriously, how many people even know that there is a two-man luge? Why do they waste their time? They certainly don't make an entrance like they do on Dancing with the Stars. Yes, I am still basically waiting in anticipation to see how awkward Evander Holyfield is going to look each time, but that doesn't mean I can't look forward to other things. Take, for instance, the set, which looks like they grabbed leftover pieces from the Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour and let the set designer from Lawrence Welk have at it.
They also don't waste any time getting started. I thought they were going to do eliminations at the beginning of the show, but it looks like the scores from this week will be combined with last week's, which will somehow be combined with the internet vote to come up with a final score at the end of the show. That score will determine who gets eliminated.
The first couple to go are Rachel Hunter and her partner Jonathan Roberts. The lady celebrities will be dancing the rumba, which is described as "a dance that tells the story of love and eroticism between a man and a woman." For Rachel, this is going to be easy; she only needs to pretend that Jonathan is a giant chocolate bar, and she will have no problems making people think she's in love. When they were practicing, they said that they had three dangerous moves, two of them involving getting in between Rachel and the craft services table.

I am so embarrassed that I love this show!
John and Charlotte are great to watch dancing, but I cringe when they interview them...she hangs on him like a cat in heat.

anyone else think that joey mcintyre was just FLINGING that girl around the stage? poor her.

I'm so glad that TRISTA is gone! Maybe she'll get the message that nobody can stand her! And she was so unsexy last night! She just walked around on stage, never swizzled her hips at all. My fave is John O'Hurly - he's a real showman.

evander makes this show! i voted for him first thing this morning.

Are the songs they play for the dancing on this show the same kind they would play for a real ballroom competition? I think they sound weird, but i don't know anything about ballroom dancing. John O'Hurley makes this show for me...I loved him on Seinfeld and I love him on here.

Wow, who knew J Peterman was such a showman? He was great.
I understood exactly why the judges hated Kelly Monaco's rumba--there was very little dancing. It was mostly striking poses and looking aroused. I felt like I was watching a love scene from a soap opera, which makes sense since that's what she knows how to do--her movements and expressions on the dance floor were exactly what she must do during a sex scene in daytime.

Whew! I was hoping I was not the only one who likes this show. I know it's silly to feel embarrassed for liking a show about ballroom dance, but I do! And what's worse, my macho football-playing, basketball hooping, 3 girlfrients, got detention for cutting up in school 15-year-old son also likes it! (Although, he has sworn me to secrecy. Image, Mom, image!)
My favorites are John and Charlotte. I've always like John O'Hurley and I'm suspecting he has had dance lessons in the past. He was so smooth out there and his expressions are so animated. He and Charlotte are fun to watch. But I was really worried for a minute during the backstage interview. He seemed like he was going to pass out or have a heart attack or something!
And I know you like Holyfield, J-unit, but last night he was so bad it was just painful to watch. He missed so many steps and you could see on his face that he knew he wasn't doing well. I actually felt sorry for him. Maybe we should put him out of his misery now.

This show is hysterical. My husband even cracked up when J. Peterman and Evander were dancing. It's too much.

I really liked Kelly and her partner, I thought it was sexy. When the judges didn't like her, their comments were obviously negative...but when Evander screwed up the dance more noticably, the judges seemed to kiss his ass a bit more...what's up with that? I'm hooked either way!

I thought poor Kelly was going to cry when the judges were being so harsh on her.

sure, evander can't dance very well, but i love him anyway. he's just so cute in that huge boxer sort of way. and he really is trying. but i predict peterman takes it in a landslide...unless kelly keeps wearing those skimpy outfits and gyrates her way to a win.
i can't stand trista, but in her defense, i don't think i'd want to be too close to that creepy fabio wannabe louis! dude was wearing a skin tight LACE SHIRT that was open in the front and black spandex pants. and he has long greasy blonde hair, in a ponytail. need i say more?

I love this show! Great re-cap too! Does the final team actually win something at the end?

I love this show too:-) And no, the music on this show is NOT what is played in a professional ballroom dance competition. The only songs on this episode that were even close were the ones for the quickstep. the rumba is supposed to be danced to a Latin beat. That is really the only disappointing thing about this competition. Can't wait for next week!!!

I propose that the next iteration of this show feature ONLY Seinfeld supporting characters. Newman, Babu, Peterman, Puddy, Soup Nazi...seriously, that show would RULE.

Great post Dave J. Bring on Puddy!

Trista sucks somethin' fierce! The whining about Fabio being too close was rediculous. Why would Ryan suddenly care about her being a skank? Did they not meet on a show where she was dating 20-some-odd men? She made out with a few on national tv, and he married her ass anyway. Lame!
Evander reminds me of a tiger preforming in a Las Vegas show doing dancing tricks on his hind legs.
Rachel Hunter needs to go next.

seriously, rachel hunters dance partner is a total hottie.
but j peterman is just awesome to watch. he looks like he just totally loves being there, and he and charlott(a) have great chemistry!

Evander's faces creep me out. That being said, I would definitely like to see him square off against Bruno Tonioli in the boxing ring.

Too true, RHM, Louis is freakish! In addition to his (cough, cough) fabulous outfit, he has the most bizarrely shaped head I've ever seen. Between that and Trista's freakshow face, I'm glad they're gone.
Love me some Evander! My favorite moment was when he got a face full of scarf and had to push it away. Too funny!

I think the judges have been extra harsh on Kelly Monaco because she's the least famous and they want to keep their more high-profile people (like Evander) longer.
Their plan obviously backfired though. By nearly making her cry 2 weeks in a row America felt sorry for her and voted for her enough times to place her above the 2 other ladies.
They should've learned something from American Idol... Simon Cowell giving fatboy a hard time only kept him around longer!

Unfortunately I missed the show...but I think that I might have to watch just for J Peterman! I actually worked with him once and when we were on location, we went to a dive bar where he proceeded to take over the stage and sing with the local band. He really is quite a personality.

Newman, Puddy and the soup nazi ballroom dancing...the mental image majorly cracks me up!!!
As if J. Peterman isn't funny enough!

You have to check out this email that was supposedly from Trista before the show started, begging friends and family to vote for her -- it's quite pathetic:

I don't know what Trista's problem is. She has got a dance instructor whom in the dance industry is highly regarded for his work (genius level) and is trying to do his best to portray her as a beautiful dancer. And the ironey behind her uncomfortable feelings about his sensual appoach is that HE'S A HOMOSEXUAL, GAY AS THE DAY SHALL WE SAY!! I think her apprehension comes from her own insecurities and unfortunately Louis is getting the blame for it... Holyfield's cha-cha WUZ DA BOMB BABY!! Peterman by a landslide.

I thought Trista was good :-(

Does it look to anyone else that Evander is chewing gum throughout the whole routine? I didn't see the first show, but last night that's what it looked like to me--like he had a big ol' wad of Big League Chew in there, and was chomping away furiously.
Peterman rules, though I wonder how much I'd love him had he not been on Seinfeld. I mean, his pretensions as Peterman set up his ballroom dancing perfectly. I can just hear him going "It's a Ziggy!" throughout the whole performance. Genius casting.

hey did you guys know that john o'hurley is THE REAL PETERMAN.
ie after his stint on seinfeld he was asked by the j peterman company to join them (at the time the company wasnt doing well) so o'hurley joined j peterman as an equal partner.
so he really is the real j peterman!

Boy, those judges are not going to cut Kelly a break. She was not as good as she was last week, but she wasn't all that bad either. Rachel looks like an elephant dancing and she gets decent critisim. The just pound on Kelly. Evander is just awful, and yet they are nice to him. I am confused by their coldness to Kelly.
