Over at the Official Football Field In Smash's Front Yard, some kids are playing as he and Waverly watch. She's telling him all about her bipolar disorder and that she wasn't actually in Africa, she was in a hospital. Smash gets that I'd-rather-jump-off-a-cliff-than-deal-with-this face, which Waverly calls him out on. He says he just needs time to digest this. Yeah. Got a few decades, Wav?

Smash's neighborhood contains a clue in The Amazing Race! Hurry, Smash, you're the first to arrive!

Buddy and Lyla are hanging out in his hotel room, looking at old family pictures. Buddy somehow has it in his head that making a sappy photo album is the way back to his wife's heart. Because he saw it on Dr. Phil once. Sigh. Buddy, you're a moron. Lyla says she doesn't want her name attached to this, that she doesn't want to take sides. She thinks Mom needs some more time, but Buddy says that he can't live without his family. Um, weren't you screaming a couple weeks ago all you need in life are the PANTHERS? Yes, yes you did. Refer to NBC.com for more details. Lyla keeps at him, but it's slightly hard for me to buy since she could pretty much be saying these things right into a mirror and they would still apply. I guess cheating runs in the family.

For the ladies.

Tim pulls up to one of those schoolyard playgrounds that is pretty much built as an arena for bullies to beat up little kids. Sure enough, Bo is surrounded by a handful of bigger boys, and is about to get his screechy little ass kicked. Tim rescues him and tells the brats that if he ever catches them again, he's going to "punch a hole in your chest and rip your heart out." Haha. That would have scared the everliving crap out of me. The bullies run away, and Bo says that this happens every day. I almost start to feel for the kid, but then he yelps "I can't believe Tim Riggins is picking me up from school!" and I remember that I hate him.

Coach is trying to convince his daughter that she'll love Austin. He says it's arty and she's an arty person. He says the word arty about five more times, then goes on to describe the culture, and this scene is so hilarious I just have to quote the whole damn thing: "There's a lot of dancing, you love dance. There's a hell of a lot of dance. There's dancing all over Austin. There's an Austin dance troupe. Tell her about all this!" He motions to Tami, who gives him probably the best Look in the history of television. She deadpans, "There are lots of different kind of dancing honey, and they've got a beautiful ballet." Coach pipes up again: "No, they got an EXCELLENT ballet there, that's what they got. They got some top notch balleters." Julie chooses this moment to storm out of the room. And I choose this moment to reestablish a normal breathing pattern, as I've almost lost consciousness from laughing.

"But dance is the hidden language of the soul!"

"You're fired from this family."

Over at the Arctic Freeze, Matt is worried that he's not going to be able to pull off a win at the big game and then the whole town will hate him and he'll be benched for the rest of his high school career. Landry reassures him that he is Coach's little "Seabiscuit", and that he will always be QB1 as long as Coach is around. Julie gets a guilty little look on her face. Isn't it funny how seemingly innocent conversations can always hit you exactly where it hurts at exactly the right moment?

On the ride back to Dillon, Jason is explaining to Suzie the situation with the lawsuit and how everyone hates him. She doesn't understand how he can want to go back to and live in a place where he's not wanted, but he simply replies that it's the only home he's ever known. She suggests they go chill out at Stonehenge II, which sounds like fun, as the camera pans to what must be the 135th "wheelchair in back of pickup truck" shot of the season.

Loved the recap! If they cancel this show, you'll have to make room for me in the toaster bath Screampillar.....

I can't stand Herc, how obnoxious can one person be?!

LOL, Buddy Garrity is finally reaping what he sows... That was so cool when Lyla went ballistic on the cars.

Coach and Tami are too cute for words.

I loved the Chris Hansen comment about MILF and Tim! I love how she trusts her young child to someone she barely knows and that usually has a beer in his underage hand...lol!

Now that Jason might have a future in coaching, do you think he'll ditch that ass Herc?? I sure hope so....

OMG, only 2 more episodes?? I can't be over already?!

I LOVE this show and I love your recaps even more! FNL is so awesome - this was def the best episode yet. I felt like it moved faster, making more happen in a shorter time.

Screampillar, if you are going to run off and marry Jason - you better make it a dual ceremony, because I love coach. he's just perfection! Damn, this show better get a second season!!

Katella:

I can't believe this show is almost over for the season! what will i do? anyways, this was another awesome recap...screampillar please say you'll take over recapping Grey's Anatomy too, you've got to be the best writer Tvgasm has got!

Screampillar -- you write the Best. Recap. Ever. Seriously, your recaps turned me on to this wonderful show, and I love it -- but I wonder if I would love it as much without your recaps. Your own love for the show comes through and makes my love double. ;)

E! Gossip's Kristin's On-Line has a "Save one Show" campaign going on -- go over and vote! (http://yahoo.eonline.com/gossip/kristin/index.jsp)

The other info from that column site was reassuring, however --
"Friday Night Lights: NBC execs love this show. And that makes me love NBC execs. This is without a doubt the most underappreciated new series on television, and sources tell me NBC knows that and is expected to keep it around. Hooray!"

Still, go over there and vote.

I LOVE Coach Taylor. He is #1 on my Top 5 list! He and Tami and Julie are the most realistic portrayal of a family on TV. Please NBC do not cancel the best show EVER!!

I LOVE the 'Bo' joke!

I agree with everything you wrote Screampillar. My heart was just bursting at the scene with the boys on the football field. The kid who plays Matt did an interview recently and said that the majority of the scenes are improv. They are just given topics and told to talk.

And like #4 said- go to Eonline and Vote for Save one show. It actually got that crapfest One Tree Hill saved last year. So maybe the powers that be at NBC will be paying attention.

And really do you blame the MILF for going after Tim Riggins? He was looking especially good this episode and he has totally bonded with her kid!

Best show on TV!!!

First off: Love Friday Night Lights! :)

And I guess you'll be happy to hear that there are THREE MORE episodes remaining (3/28,4/4 & 4/11) not two.

One thing that confuses me is Coach's timeline in Dillan - maybe you can straighten it out for me?

In the last ep , Street is telling tattoo girl that he wouldn't consider leaving Dillon because it's the only plae her has ever known and it's the only place he calls "home".

In the pilot , during the interview with coach & Street - the interviewer says that Taylor had coached Street through pee-wee etc... and followed him to HS and was now his coach again.

YET - Julie says "We are moving again, aren't we?"

And she is younger than Street , so.... How can Street be in Dillon his whole life - Taylor be his coach all those years and Julie moving from town to town ... ?

Maybe I am mis-remembering things and what was said ... but that's my recollection...

Any help? :)

JasonR:

This was a stellar episode. It almost seems like the writers are trying to leave things in a way that will be at least somewhat satisfying if God forbid the show doesn't come back next season. Let's all hope many more people discover FNL in summer reruns and/or some much deserved Emmy noms get it some more attention and viewers. Screampillar, I loved this show from the pilot, so you had me at "hello", but it's clear your enthusiasm for the show is contagious here at the 'Gasm.

BTW if you want to experience the very weird (the highbrow NY Times actually GUSHING over a TV show), check out their review of the pilot:

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/10/03/arts/television/03heff.html?ex=1175054400&en=2fd1592780653826&ei=5070

Jupiter-2 (#9), interesting pick-up. I totally missed that.

The Chicago Tribune also did a three page spread on FNL in their Sunday entertainment section yesterday. It was called 'The Best Show You're Not Watching' and it was also pretty gushing. Which it should be, because this show is the best thing currently airing on television, and the second best thing in years, after The Wire.

Screampillar: Your recaps for FNL are SO wonderful and truly do this superb show justice!! THANK YOU! Indeed, you must be the best TVGasm writer-- well at least of the recaps I read.

one of my favorite highlights of the recap (so what i was thinking):

Tami is in a meeting with Tyra's mother. She says she fears that Tyra is relying too much on her looks and not her brain, which is a problem because her looks won't last forever. "You're living proof of that," she fails to say. But you know she's thinking it. Or I am. Whatever.

SO911BABE:

Screampillar, your love of this show really shines through on these recaps (which are fan-freakin-tastic,BTW) My husband, 14 year old daughter and I watch this show together religiously each week. It's the only show we all enjoy. Plus we are forever hitting the "pause" on TiVo, to dicuss the many issues/situations the show brings up. How many shows can truly spark that sort of thing with a 14 year old?? It truly is the best show on right now. Oh, and I am in love with the Taylors as much as you are - I heart them to pieces!!!!

Yes, this is one of the best shows on TV! Few shows can make you laugh and cry in one scene. This show is so real and I hope they come back for a second season. It would be a total shame to lose such a quality show with such quality acting from the adults as well as the kids.

Maybe we should call Lyla the new Smash after that car dealership scene! That was great!

My wife always gets annoyed at me when I randomly shout out, "IT WAS A BLANKET!" from earlier in the season in the scene with Matt and Julie. I hope Coach will continue giving me quality lines to annoy my wife with. She gets me back, though, telling my friends how I get all teary-eyed when I watch this show. Totally worth it, though.

Great Recap, Screampillar! Made me laugh almost as much as the show did. Keep it up!

I agree, this is the best show on tv. I so want to be married to Coach. And I so want to kick Herc in the jaw.

I want to scoop Matt up and snuggle him in my bosom. He and Julie make my teeth hurt.

I can't watch this when my husband is around cause it makes me weepy. And then he points and laughs at me.

TinkerbellAPixie:

Only three episodes left and I go and miss one. Damn my DVR - it broke the cardinal rule and missed one of my favorite shows.I can't believe I missed what sounded like one of the best episodes yet. THANK GOD FOR YOUR RECAP! And what a wonderful recap it was. I really really enjoy reading your thoughts on this show. I want to hang out with you and watch it live. Can we have a contest to watch a show with a Recapper?

"Smash's neighborhood contains a clue in The Amazing Race! Hurry, Smash, you're the first to arrive!"
Funniest line of the recap!

But I also had to LMAO at the photos "For the ladies" you nailed it on that first one - the second one...haha not so much.

"Are you taking any notes? Notes on a SCANDAL?"
You kill me with your references :)

"I'm just going to have to come on down there and kidnap Jason and marry him myself! See what you're forcing me to do?!"
Just so long as you have a pick up to toss the wheelchair in.

Screampillar - when FNL is over you have to HAVE TO recap Kyle XY. It's got another interesting family dynamic and I think your writing style would suit it perfectly!
