The next morning, Dan thanks Rufus for interfering (even though it really had nothing to do with his ultimate success with the Dartmouth rep), Upchuck reveals that he did bag the Princeton cougar, and Cappy calls Nate to remind him to meet up for their morning run. Upon arriving at Central Park, Nate finds Cappy has invited the Dartmouth rep to go running with them, and has lied that Nate had food poisoning the night before as a way to excuse Nate's disinterest and general stupidity. As expected, Nate is back to being his dad's bitch and accepts the manipulation. Meanwhile, Jenny goes to visit the Mush at the center, where she notices an ostentatious floral bouquet. Jenny asks who the flowers are from in a way that could escalate into a full-blown jealousy snit if the Mush isn't careful, and he quickly says they're for Serena from the Brown rep, who evidently had a relative go through some substance abuse problems. So maybe Serena hasn't thrown away her future! Yay!
Serena herself is hanging out on a park bench when Blair approaches, saying this is where Serena always goes when she's upset. Blair merely pulls out a letter she wrote when Serena was at boarding school but she never sent. She begins reading it, and the gist of it is her parents' divorce, Nate's strange behavior (having just boffed Serena), and Serena's sudden and unexplained departure. Blair tearfully says she didn't send the letter because she didn't know where to send it, and accuses Serena of not contacting her despite Serena knowing about the divorce. Serena, also in tears, says she didn't know how to be Blair's friend after boffing Nate. Blair admits that the Mushroom told her that he was the real patient, and she seeks common ground by saying that Serena's family has been through some rough times as well. The two girls smile weakly at each other and sniffle.
Who do I have to manipulate to get someone to love meeee?
So, will Blair and Serena really reconcile? Do you want them to, or do you prefer watching their attempts to destroy each other? And how long do you think Derena will last before the next "breakup?"

that was field hockey, not lacrosse. Both are wicked preppy. Good recap. I did not know this show was based on books, the show does not make me want to check them out though.

flipti! i love reading your recaps. great job. I'm a little sad you missed it when Scar said, "well, hung...." I laughed so hard when I heard her say that. with that said, I'm thrilled that Hung won! I'd love to eat at his restaurant. btw, asian seafood isn't known to have citrus in it. so don't see what they were yammering bout.

Lolo, loved the recap! I feel like if the girls reconcile, what will they do with the show? I (obviously) haven't read the books so I don't know... we'll see though. Turns out Gossip Girl is my newest guilty pleasure.

My cheeks hurt every time I look at Blair. I've never seen someone with such huge cheeks.

Seriously. I hate myself for keeping the channel on after ANTM (which I will be doing tonight as well) and getting sucked into this horrible show! It's so freaking addicting---I like to assuage my guilt with saying it's just because Dan's a hottie and then I remember I'm probably a lot older than him and it's probably illegal in most states. Sigh.
A friend and I were discussing how much we hate Blair and what a big biatch she is and such when we had to remind ourselves that this ISN'T reality TV, it's an actual show. With characters. So humiliating.
I still hate Blair. I'm pretty sure those were faux-tears too!
