Not to disappoint, we are introduced to our patients for this episode with their super rare diseases. The writers have given up trying to convince us that this is something we would see in a normal hospital. I'm pretty sure that Callie's exact words were "this is a disease so rare that you will never see it again". Anyway, our rare disease of the week is something that causes the woman to freeze up like a statue. Statue lady has a daughter who just might be as crazy as Izzie. George and Callie get assigned to this patient and at the last second Izzie gets to join too. Start counting all the awkward longing glances that Izzie gets to give George. It's a good thing that George picked a crazy woman to cheat on his wife with. This way when Izzie starts rambling about George and sex, everyone else will just ignore her while Christina storms angrily out of the room.
Speaking of my favorite doctor that lacks a bedside manner, Christina gets assigned to the clinic, and her patient is a man who demands pain meds. Drug addict? No, turns out that the guy just has some nasty sore on his foot. BUT, because this is Grey's Anatomy and it can't just be an open sore, Christina informs him that she is going to have to amputate his foot. I wonder which will be blunter, the way she broke the news to him or the stump that is left when his foot is gone.
Sloan sees the Chief and uses his chance to show off by giving Meredith the bone harvest for broken faced pregnant woman's surgery. The Chief looks happy for Meredith, winning some points for Sloan. Meredith runs off to practice for this surgery and to see what sort of face that broken faced pregnant woman has picked out.
Derek stops by to hover over Meredith while she is studying. She seems proud that her dead mother would be proud of her doing this surgery. Forget bright and shiny, try morbid and creepy. They have some strange conversation where he asks her how bad "it" is today. She responds by saying a 6 or 7. I don't know if I just tuned out, but I really did not understand what was going on here. What was "it"? Meredith's self absorbtion level?
I may be looking at you, but I'm still thinking about myself.
Back in infidelity land, George and Izzie are giving statue woman an MRI. Still drunk, George tells her to lie still. This leads to an awkward pause where he realizes that she can't exactly move. I can see this meeting with Callie's dad going really well. Izzie continues to freak out and is wondering HOW George doesn't remember how great sex was with her. I mean, we all saw how great it was with Meredith, so we all know that George must be a tiger in bed. George comments that he didn't mean anything he did while he was blacked out. Izzie mumbles that he meant it more than once, and we are interrupted by something on the MRI. This means surgery montage!
Elsewhere, Addison is practicing her 10 YEAR PLAN!!!!™ speech for the board. Sloan is watching and gets clued on the whole 10 YEAR PLAN!!!!™ business. He seems a bit worried, and asks Addison about her flaws. She replies that she has none, and calls him a man-whore all in the same sentence. Sloan shoots back that he's been celibate for 10 days. I guess he missed the memo that days are so old. It's all about 10 YEARS this week Sloan.
Back in rare disease land, we discover that statue woman has bleeding in her stomach! And they can't operate at the risk of more of her muscles turning into bone! Her daughter jumps in before the woman can say anything and informs the doctors that they can't do surgery. Well yes, they know that, they went to medical school you idiot. Burke suggests a minimally invasive procedure, and statue woman accepts that she could die. Her daughter argues against this, but of course without surgery statue woman will die anyway. She decides to go ahead with the surgery.
Sloan is walking around the hospital trying to figure out what everyone else's 10 YEAR PLAN!!!!™ is so that he won't have to do any work. Derek catches onto him immediately and also accuses him of using Meredith to score points with the Chief. McSteamy admits it, and you have to give him credit, at least he is open and honest about being such a dirt bag.

considering i am the first and probably only commenter on this average recap, i won't feel so bad expressing my opinion.
i think we need a better/funnier/ruder/hotter recapper for this show. call me! if i missed the episode, this would have caught me up, however i don't think i smiled once while reading this recap. That excludes the smile i have on my face right now.

I thought the recap was pretty good, actually. I am not too hard to please.

Actually - I was the first commenter on this recap when it went up in the forums. I couldn't wait to get my eyes on it than and I really wasn't disappointed.
You could tell that the writer really enjoys this show and that comes through in her writing. I sometimes grow weary of recaps where all the writers do is countdown the days until they show is canceled. I don't understand why anyone would spend so many hours writing and theorizing about a show they clearly do not enjoy.
I found this recap to be a nice mix between humor, snark and a retelling of the events. And - I think it's great to have Grey's being recapped again. :)

You need more pictures. Sorry - I didn't really bother reading.

not the best recap i've read on this site. and one correction- the phase is "game, set, match" to mcsteamy. not point match game (or whatever you said).

I enjoyed the recap and laughed out loud at the
"Upgrade!" picture comparison between Izzie and Meredith. Classic.
I thought it was funny and it was nice to read someone who enjoys the show. However, please cut Meredith some slack...she's no more self-obsessed then the rest of them are currently and at least she's trying to be positive.
Also, it the race for Chief of Surgery, not Chief Resident. Bailey is a resident...McSteamy, Addison, Burke and McDreamy are Attending (Area Directors of their specialties).

The screen caps were funny, but they were definitely the only highlights of the recap for me.
On another note, Shonda has lost it, putting George and Izzie together. I am giving this show until the end of the season and then I'm out if it doesn't get better.

I agree with Suzie, I'm sorry, it really was incredibly boring, and the screen caps weren't funny.
Good try though!

the line that #6 commenter quoted was a great one! Yes- you need more screencaps, but that will come in time if you get the job. I think you did a fine job Kitty. Keep your chin up!

I think this was a good effort for a first timer, no complaints here. I agreed with the comments about the computer-generated pictures for broken-face lady, were they trying to depress her even more? Although I didn't really see Izzie's conversation with Addison as one of Shonda's wacky scenes, it seemed like a cop-out to me, an easy way to have one adulterer give advice to another, it was awkward to watch IMO. I did like George's scene in the closet (no pun intended), not many actors can pull off so much wihout saying a word.

You know.. when bside left I thought I'd stop coming on here just because there is no comparison.. but what pisses me off even more are all the readers criticizing the new writers. You should be happy that someone is recapping at all. If you don't like it simply go somewhere else, there are like a billion recapping sites now. I'm not trying to start a fight with anyone, but really is it necessary?
It really sets a negative mood on here; it used to be everyone leaving funny playful stuff that I loved reading. Anyway.. I drank way too much caffeine tonight and now I'm rambling so I'll shut up and go watch Conan.

I originally had more screencaps, but when I posted it in the forums I had to cut the number of pictures down to four. I agree, it is more fun to read with pictures. I would love some constructive criticism, and I'm not holding out for universal popularity.

Kitty,
It's not all about the photos it's about the writing -and you wrote a very funny recap which will help fill a void around here. :)

Anybody recapping this confusing show for the first time deserves a break. Good going, Kitty.
Dizzie's feelings are changing a bit fast as Rhimes attempts to flesh out her character. So far she's succeeded in appearing to be clueless as far as her feelings and beliefs go. I remember in one of the early eps when she ripped off her clothes to show her body but make sure they knew she was a REAL Doctor-to-be, so they'd better get their fill. Then she proceeded to go from Izzie to Dizzie. So far she's nailed Alex and George and would have done Denny in a heartbeat if he could have lived through it. Hm. Considering she ended up killing him anyway, maybe she could have chosen the more pleasurable way to do it.
I thank God this is not a real hospital. I wouldn't want any of these fools to come near me, not even with a warm stethoscope. Please stop abusing Meredith. She's surrounded by completely self-absorbed, preening narcissists that make her look like Mother Teresa by comparison.
The stone woman was a weird addition. Made me feel they were just filling in time to make this a one-hour episode.

I have to agree... As far as humor, this recap fell pretty flat. Some of the old ones had me laughing my butt off, but this one? Like someone else said, I didn't crack a smile. The picture captions were pretty good, but the rest was blah.

I have to agree... As far as humor, this recap fell pretty flat. Some of the old ones had me laughing my butt off, but this one? Not so much. I do understand that it's the first time writing for this show, so I'm sure things will perk up. :)
The picture captions were pretty good, but the rest was kind of blah. As far as what happened on the show, though, it did a good job.

I laughed out loud while reading your recap 5 times (4 at comments within the recap, once at the "Upgrade" caption.) You did a good job recapping this episode & I'm sure you'll only inprove with time. Alot of your observations felt like something my friends and I would say out loud while watching Grey's together.

I agree. Your recap was pretty good... don't listen to the haters. That "Suzie" chick just needs to get laid. Lighten up bitch.....

no...this recap wasn't that funny AND i thought it was pretty insensitive to make fun of the diseases the patients had. "statue" woman prob. had spinabiphida (sp?) which is rare but not crazy rare, i have a friend who's mom has it and her muscles slowly turn into bone basically. Also the diabetic foot amputation is pretty run of the mill for older diabetics who don't take care of themselves like they're supposed to. Those are my big objections--and that's my 2 cents.

THIS WAS THE WORST RECAP EVER
arent these supposed to be funny?
and not enough pics.
plz find someone new

there were a few funny lines that cracked me up, but not enough pics and something else was just missing, but i don't know what it is.
recap was promising, it just didn't have me at hello.

oh, also. a little beef with the zoloft comment...
...first of all, seems a little too borrowed from m_ruv...
second of all...zoloft is just a common anti-depressant. tons of people take it. perhaps the joke would be more suiting if you referred to something like an anti-psychotic. she's got more complex issues than depression.
now i know i may be a little picky because i have a knowledge base about medications, but the joke was way lame.

jim,
it wasn't spina bifida...it's was some other disease with an abbreviation. i don't remember what.
and the recapper didn't make fun of the diabetic patient. he made fun of christina's lack of bedside-manner. although later in the episode christina wasn't very excited about the surgery because it was a very sad situation.

I understand people not thinking the recap was to their taste - I don't understand the need to be so unkind about it. Writing these things is a lot of work and takes a lot of time.

Trying to verbally recap these episodes with fellow GA fans is difficult, I can't imagine putting it down in words. I had a few chuckle out loud moments. I don't think I could do much better at least on a first try. m_ruv had me practically peeing my pants every week but that was his job: making people laugh with his witty writing. I don't think it is inappropriate to borrow jokes from m_ruv either...he had a lot of good ones and I'm sure he wouldn't mind his legacy continuing in some small way with this recap. =) Plus, even m_ruv didn't please the masses--people were always down on him for being too negative about GA.
