Arizona tentatively approaches the Chief and warns that she is about to cry, because that is what she does when she is angry with people of authority. She cries and tells him it is wrong to try and lure Bailey back to general surgery with a robot because Arizona doesn't have fancy robots. All she's got are dying kids. She continues to complain to him while weeping. She tells the Chief that she will fight him for Bailey and she will win. To which the Chief laughs and walks away. I still don't get this whole storyline. Why would the Chief not want one of his best surgeons to perform on children? Doesn't he know that children are the future? Treat them well and let the lead the way!

Way to push the women in the workplace movement back 18 years. Don't worry boys, it's probably just her time of the month.

Just in case the women's movement wasn't far enough back, Karev learns that Izzie has decided not to have the surgery. Upon learning this, Yang and Cancer bitch leave him and Izzie to "discuss." He closes the door and demands her as his wife to have the surgery. He goes on to tell her, that since she is incapable of making the right decision, that he as the man will make the decision. Now that she is his wife, his makes the calls. Don't worry Izzie, at least there is a very good chance you will have no memory of the chauvinistic asshole you married.

And, just in case the male/female relationships weren't verbally abusive enough, Derek finds out that Izzie is refusing the surgery and puts the smack down, telling Meredith to stop making things personal and tell her patient she has to have the surgery. Who's making things personal EGO? Just because you think you are the greatest surgeon who ever lives and can't F up, maybe not everyone wants one of your experimental surgeries to go awry when your fist first into their brain. Meredith reminds him that she saw her mother lose every part of her mind, and she doesn't want that to happen to Izzie.

The Major pulls Yang into a storage closet, the location of all major conversations. The same way the on call room is the location of all major bangs. He tells Yang that he has figured out why he hasn't told his mom he is home, and why he can't sleep at night, and why he is an all around mess. His work in Iraq wasn't finished. He has to go back. The Major has the exit strategy all backwards, but I think it is just because ABC is trying to see how many shows they can get the phrase "We have to go back" said multiple times. He asks for Yang's support and offers her a yellow ribbon to which she firmly refuses and walks out.

After this discussion Lt. Charlie apologizes to Torres and George for asking them to cut off his perfectly healthy leg. He asks them if they couldn't do their jobs anymore, wouldn't they do whatever they could to do it? The music slows down and the pan to George while Charlie is talking, but I'm not really sure why? It's not like something has happened to George and he can no longer be a doctor. He just had a super crappy day where all his patients died. But I guess Charlie and his leg are what ends up convincing George to join the military.

The should she or shouldn't she have surgery debate rages on as Izzie talks to her new chemo friend about it. She is distressed because it hasn't even been 24 hours yet, and her husband already demanded obedience from her. But she doesn't want to hurt him by not having the surgery. Her friend says, that once the treatment works, he'll forget all about how he was mad at her for having the surgery. Or Izzie will be dead, and she never has to worry about him being hurt. Mer and Yang continue the same debate of what to tell Izzie. While they are discussing their pagers go off and Izzie's chemo buddy has flatlined.

I loved the episode! I was so shocked when that turned out to be George!! And he did indeed look HOT in the Army uniform!!

Oh, and they called him 007, because he had lost some patients (season 1 or 2) and the others were teasing him that he was like 007 because he had a "license to kill"...

Great recap!!

Clair:

I gasped out loud too when George wrote 007. Definitely SMOKIN! in that uniform. Yummy.

WizeChiklet:

I keep thinking that if T.R.Knight wants out of the show, they could still have George but with another actor (like, Tobey Maguire, perhaps? Same build, height, similar face & voice), because with the disfigurement's requirement for plastic surgery, it'd be believable.

pixielated:

I heard that TR Knight is indeed leaving, so I imagine that his character dies. That was the implication, I thought; that he was dead and she had to decide whether to join him.

If she kisses enough ass, she'll probably stay but on a reduced schedule. She is a bankable film star, and she could be in, say, half the episodes as she goes through rehab.

The finale totally rocked. And, one way or another, we've seen the last of Dead Denny!

Malbec31:

LOVE the Flowers in the Attic picture! I almost spit out my wine I was laughing so hard...

fire@will:

Maybe the best episode since the first season. Some great surprises. Add me to the list of gaspers (and I seldom get surprised like that. George wlking into the recruiters office was another good surprise.

Thanks for recapping.

I hope you all are doing well - or about to have your own surprise turn for the better!

mariabird522:

I read online, right after the finale aired, that Shonda Rimes, the creator of Grey's purposely left George out of most of the season so that we wouldn't notice that he was basically gone for this entire episode. Honestly, I think her plan worked. I was totally shocked. And if that's the case, it sounds like this was in the works all season and that George/TR is really gone :(
