Apparently whatever the Lt. said worked because the next thing we know Torres, George and the Major have him in surgery about to cut off his leg. Torres is still reluctant but the Major says that they don't know how many lives he'll be able to save. Umm...yeah if he can go back to war. I was saw a report about a guy who had the slightest problem seeing and he couldn't go to war! He had to beg the nurse to fake his charts. Ok, it was Pearl Harbor, not an actual report, but really now they are letting people who have had their legs amputated? But Torres begins the procedure, saw in hand to cut off his leg.

Bailey gets a robot to operate with and Torres has something bought on sale at Home Depot? I call bull shit.

In Allison, Izzie's chemo friend's, surgery Yang begins to change her mind about treatment versus surgery. Cancer bitch does not take this lightly. She reminds Yang that there is no cure for cancer, and that Allison had three months to live with she first arrived and now she has been alive for two years. Basically, there is no right answer to this debate.

Sloan and Lexie have a highly awkward conversation where Sloan asks Lexie to move in with him. And she says she'd love too, in 10 years. Um, huh? One minute you withholding sex because he wouldn't tell people you guys were dating, now you don't want to move in together for 10 years? And where are you going to live? Are you going to stay in the attic forever?

Because nothing good can come of that

Yang and Cancer bitch update Allison's family on the failed surgery. She can't breathe on her own, and after this surgery she never will be. Izzie is standing within 10 feet of them and hears the whole thing. I know Izzie's a Doctor, but shouldn't there be some type of patient indiscretion? After Izzie hears how unsuccessful the surgery was she goes to her happy place, which incidentally is my annoying place, the make believe, horribly CGS designed beach with Denny. They don't talk, Izzie just sits and thinks and I realize that Katherine Heigl has a giant rack. How did I always miss this? Girls with flat stomachs and enormous perfect boobs make me think that God hates me, but that is another rant for another blog.

Her moment of beachside solace is interrupted by the rarely heard sound of George's voice. He asks why he paged her and she repeats the debate of the episode. Should she or shouldn't she have the surgery. George tells her that she knows the answer to that, and that she always knew the answer. She just keeps forgetting because of her trips to the beach with Denny. A few moments later she finds Derek and tells him that she will have the surgery. But she refuses to sign a DNR, because if something goes wrong, she doesn't want to live like a vegetable. Right, because her best and only friends in the world who have trained their whole lives to save lives will be able to stand by idly while you die in front of them.

On the way into surgery, Alex still vying for husband of the year, yells at Izzie to rip up the DNR. He asks her if she wants to destroy his career, because her having a terminal brain tumor is really all about him. She explains to him why she has to have it, and how she would rather find peace in death then spend a miserable non-life in a hospital bed. She finally convinces Alex and they tearfully kiss. When they wheel her away, Meredith tells Derek she wants to go to city hall the next day, because she doesn't want to spend another day not being married to him. Yes, you say that now, but there will be a few days when you are married when you'll eat those words. As a side note, this is when I started to cry for the first time this finale....and there is still an hour left.

Our doctors begin to come to grip with the reality of their lives.

Yang realizes that sometimes no matter how much science there is, you just can't save people and she tells the Major she can't support his decision to return to the war because she doesn't want him to die.

Torres admits that she cut off a completely healthy leg.

Cancer bitch lost her miracle patient, the one miracle she thought she had. They all wonder aloud why they do this job. Bailey, who has wrestled this before has the answer and tells them to follow her.

I loved the episode! I was so shocked when that turned out to be George!! And he did indeed look HOT in the Army uniform!!

Oh, and they called him 007, because he had lost some patients (season 1 or 2) and the others were teasing him that he was like 007 because he had a "license to kill"...

Great recap!!

Clair:

I gasped out loud too when George wrote 007. Definitely SMOKIN! in that uniform. Yummy.

WizeChiklet:

I keep thinking that if T.R.Knight wants out of the show, they could still have George but with another actor (like, Tobey Maguire, perhaps? Same build, height, similar face & voice), because with the disfigurement's requirement for plastic surgery, it'd be believable.

pixielated:

I heard that TR Knight is indeed leaving, so I imagine that his character dies. That was the implication, I thought; that he was dead and she had to decide whether to join him.

If she kisses enough ass, she'll probably stay but on a reduced schedule. She is a bankable film star, and she could be in, say, half the episodes as she goes through rehab.

The finale totally rocked. And, one way or another, we've seen the last of Dead Denny!

Malbec31:

LOVE the Flowers in the Attic picture! I almost spit out my wine I was laughing so hard...

fire@will:

Maybe the best episode since the first season. Some great surprises. Add me to the list of gaspers (and I seldom get surprised like that. George wlking into the recruiters office was another good surprise.

Thanks for recapping.

I hope you all are doing well - or about to have your own surprise turn for the better!

mariabird522:

I read online, right after the finale aired, that Shonda Rimes, the creator of Grey's purposely left George out of most of the season so that we wouldn't notice that he was basically gone for this entire episode. Honestly, I think her plan worked. I was totally shocked. And if that's the case, it sounds like this was in the works all season and that George/TR is really gone :(
