Bailey finds the Major with John Doe and goes off on him for encouraging George to join the Army. Upon hearing this, all the women in the room cluck in reproach. Torres and Grey sya things like, "The army?" "George O'Malley" which makes me laugh because it's the first time anyone has shown interest in him all season, and it makes me laugh because for some reason in my head I think they should be saying it in thick Georgia accents. Like, "the Ahhhmeeey? Goge O' Mahley?" I don't know why. Bailey doesn't care why or how he did it, just as long as the Major gets him out of it. Meanwhile, the patient has flatlined and they have to get him to surgery. With every female doctor efficiently pissed off at him, the Major requests that the patient not die, so he can save face with the female doctors.

Arizona, not quite done being the overbearing and annoying female approaches Bailey to ask her why she didn't act more ecstatic about getting into the pediatric fellowship. She keeps trying to get excitement out of Bailey, who only responds when Torres approaches. Torres tells Bailey she has a plan for O'Malley and asks if Bailey's in. Bailey finally shows some excitement and is in. Arizona, incapably of not being clingy and nosey asks Torres what they are saving George from. When Torres tells her that George joined the army, Arizona is like...so? And Torres is like, uh...we were married and I love his family and he joined the army... and again Arizona is like, so....that is awesome. Listen lesbians, there is way too much going on in this episode for a political debate about being pro or against war. We need to see if Izzie is living or dying. Torres agrees and walks away. Being a lesbian is tough.

Uh....can we just go back to you being hot and fun and going down on me? I'm only like 50% lesbian anyways

At lunch, the whole crew discusses George's "You can't go to army" intervention. If for no other reason than this is who you will be standing side by side with.

How tough can Army really be?

When Alex and Yang hear that George has joined Army, Karev laughs asking how 007 would last 4 minutes in the army and Yang concurs saying that George is the type of guy who would kill himself cleaning his gun. Or he'd get his hand bitten off by a seal. One or the other. I don't get the 007 reference, but I've heard that they called George that in season 1, and let's be honest....you know why I'm pointing that out. The episode aired like 4 months ago. So they all discuss the 6PM intervention with keeping George from joining army.

Before John Doe's surgery, Meredith preps him and tells him that he was a hero for saving the annoying girl. At least for her family, the rest of us hate him for saving her. While Grey is telling him this he tries to write something in her hand. She gives him a pen so he can express himself, but he drops it and passes out. Not surprisingly, in the hospital that has no walls, the annoying girl is standing right outside the OR watching. Meredith comes out and tells her she can't be there. Well, I dunno, maybe make it a little more secure? The annoying girl says that she doesn't want him to be alone because even though when they first met she was trying to find someone hotter, he is now her prince.

Arizona, who gets more annoying every episode chases Bailey down the hall and reprimands her for not being more excited. She said its an easy decision as their fellowship is the most competitive and everyone else would kill for it. Bailey lets her know that this small thorn in her side comes from the fact that her husband told her if she took this fellowship he would divorce her. I guess he is sick of her hanging out with other kids more than her own too.

I loved the episode! I was so shocked when that turned out to be George!! And he did indeed look HOT in the Army uniform!!

Oh, and they called him 007, because he had lost some patients (season 1 or 2) and the others were teasing him that he was like 007 because he had a "license to kill"...

Great recap!!

Clair:

I gasped out loud too when George wrote 007. Definitely SMOKIN! in that uniform. Yummy.

WizeChiklet:

I keep thinking that if T.R.Knight wants out of the show, they could still have George but with another actor (like, Tobey Maguire, perhaps? Same build, height, similar face & voice), because with the disfigurement's requirement for plastic surgery, it'd be believable.

pixielated:

I heard that TR Knight is indeed leaving, so I imagine that his character dies. That was the implication, I thought; that he was dead and she had to decide whether to join him.

If she kisses enough ass, she'll probably stay but on a reduced schedule. She is a bankable film star, and she could be in, say, half the episodes as she goes through rehab.

The finale totally rocked. And, one way or another, we've seen the last of Dead Denny!

Malbec31:

LOVE the Flowers in the Attic picture! I almost spit out my wine I was laughing so hard...

fire@will:

Maybe the best episode since the first season. Some great surprises. Add me to the list of gaspers (and I seldom get surprised like that. George wlking into the recruiters office was another good surprise.

Thanks for recapping.

I hope you all are doing well - or about to have your own surprise turn for the better!

I read online, right after the finale aired, that Shonda Rimes, the creator of Grey's purposely left George out of most of the season so that we wouldn't notice that he was basically gone for this entire episode. Honestly, I think her plan worked. I was totally shocked. And if that's the case, it sounds like this was in the works all season and that George/TR is really gone :(
