While all the doctors are in John Doe's surgery discussing how George will do in Army, Alex is trying to help Izzie retain some type of memory. He has notes written around her entire room that she reads and remembers, then forgets, then remembers, then forgets. Some of the highlights from Karev include "your memory sucks" "O'Malley joined army" and "You promised me head after surgery....i mean, you don't have to, but I know how much you hate to break promises." Karev's persistence for Izzie to remember things reaches an alarming level, prompting Yang to pull him in the hall. She basically tells him that if he doesn't back the F up then she will revoke his visiting hours. He goes off on Yang about how freaked out he is showing that he is pretty much losing it.
After her fight with Karev, Yang finds Meredith who is about to leave and go get married. Yang is like, today....this is the worst day ever for that? But Meredith tells her that she looks around at all the patients we are focusing on this episode and the one thing they all have in common is their desire to show and experience love. Meredith concludes that you have to take time to tell the ones you love how much you love them. Yang...and me are both like, WHO ARE YOU? This is the same person who had the stone wall built up around them with the therapist in the season premiere. This therapist must be AMAZING. Yang agrees and even wants to hug it out.

Smiles.....facial expressions and hugs? It's a whole new day on Greys.
Arizona, unable to enter a scene unless she is confronting someone, finds Torres to argue the "awesome versus not awesome" feelings towards war again. Arizona makes a valid point, but it also sounds like something you'd hear on FOX news so I'll just top line it with Arizona lost her brother to war and truly respects anyone who wants to go and save lives over there. (I do too BTW, but with one dying from cancer, do we really need to have the war debate in this episode too? I mean....I'm still watching this while drinking cheap wine.)
In the air vent room, Yang sits in deep thought when she is interrupted by the Major. I'm convinced that these two are incapable of having any type of interaction that isn't completely awkward. But I guess that's what happens after you strangle someone. The Major goes to leave and Yang stops him. She begins to try to say something but acts like her tongue is 24 pounds. I feel like I am watching that scene from Saved by the Bell where Zack get lemon juice in his water after sabotaging the school's new song so he could win and sings "Doe bitty doo" in front of the whole school in their fifth year as high school students. Only it's not as awesome. After a minute of stuttering Yang spits out "I love you." And it is sweet...ish. The Major says that they can make it work if they want. She just has to meet him halfway on the Brooklyn bridge, or just say yes since the whole meet halfway on the bridge is so 2008.
Alex continues to try and jog Izzie's memory, but it is one useless try after another. He begins to get increasingly irritated as Izzie gets increasingly exhausted. Dude, she had surgery like 14 minutes ago, maybe let her take a couple days off before drilling her. Instead of following my advice though, he tries for husband of the year again by shouting in her face. I think the highlights are when he tells her he only married her because she was about to die and asking her what is he supposed to do with her now...smother her with a pillow. Aw, heart? He's a rare breed ladies who is sadly taken. Frown. He thinks he is ok though, because its not like Izzie is going to remember any of this repulsive conversation. Only she does....a few seconds later, she remembers, then a few more seconds later she still remembers. It's kind of a joyless victory though because, yeah your memory is coming back...but now you can remember what shithead you married. Maybe Alex should have taken my advice to you know...give her a day or two?

I loved the episode! I was so shocked when that turned out to be George!! And he did indeed look HOT in the Army uniform!!
Oh, and they called him 007, because he had lost some patients (season 1 or 2) and the others were teasing him that he was like 007 because he had a "license to kill"...
Great recap!!

I gasped out loud too when George wrote 007. Definitely SMOKIN! in that uniform. Yummy.

I keep thinking that if T.R.Knight wants out of the show, they could still have George but with another actor (like, Tobey Maguire, perhaps? Same build, height, similar face & voice), because with the disfigurement's requirement for plastic surgery, it'd be believable.

I heard that TR Knight is indeed leaving, so I imagine that his character dies. That was the implication, I thought; that he was dead and she had to decide whether to join him.
If she kisses enough ass, she'll probably stay but on a reduced schedule. She is a bankable film star, and she could be in, say, half the episodes as she goes through rehab.
The finale totally rocked. And, one way or another, we've seen the last of Dead Denny!

Maybe the best episode since the first season. Some great surprises. Add me to the list of gaspers (and I seldom get surprised like that. George wlking into the recruiters office was another good surprise.
Thanks for recapping.
I hope you all are doing well - or about to have your own surprise turn for the better!

I read online, right after the finale aired, that Shonda Rimes, the creator of Grey's purposely left George out of most of the season so that we wouldn't notice that he was basically gone for this entire episode. Honestly, I think her plan worked. I was totally shocked. And if that's the case, it sounds like this was in the works all season and that George/TR is really gone :(
