This week on Grey's Anatomy, the episode starts out somberly with a voice over from the grave, Denny. Watch out Mary Alice, you aren't the only dead person who can narrate an episode! Denny informs us that he believes in heaven, as the camera subtly watches Izzie. He also tells us he believes in hell, as we watch prisoner Dunn bang his skull into oblivion in hopes of killing himself. Denny let's us know that he hasn't seen either place, but that doesn't make him question their existence. I appreciate faith in heaven and hell, but if I was living in purgatory, I'd start having my doubts.

Throughout Denny's monologue we're treated to "shits about to happen" music as Dunn finally succeeds in his head banging mission. Sadie finds Grey at the nurse's station, fully aware of Dunn's state, and fully ignoring it. When alerted that Dunn is seizing, Sadie asks Grey if she's ready to charge in there to save him, and Grey seriously tells Sadie to go find something else to do. Dunn continues to seize as blood pours from his head and the screen goes crimson into the Grey's Anatomy intro. It's pretty dark, even for Greys!
At the frat house, Izzie rolls over in bed to see Denny still hanging around her bedroom. She reminds him that they broke up, and he is still dead, so go find someone else to haunt. Denny sadly says he's there for her, and Izzie's like, dude, it's not me, it's you, if you had shit I could throw out the window I would, but you are dead, so beat it! Denny then begins to repeat "I'm here for you," rightfully pissing Izzie off. If I were Izzie, I would just go bang Alex every time Denny showed up, that'd get rid of him.
At the hospital, Jackson is starting to circle the drain. The good news is he's at the top of the transplant list, the bad news is, it might not matter. Bailey gets a page from Grey, and joins her in prisoner Dunn's room. Bailey looks at Dunn's bandaged and bloody skull and asks Grey, WTF? Why are you paging me, page Shepherd! Grey introduces Bailey to Jackson's organ match, and she and Dunn tell Bailey not to page Shepherd. Dunn is ready to die and they don't want Shepherd putting on his savior cape and fixing everything again.
Outside Dunn's room, Bailey and Grey argue the situation. Bailey reminds Grey that at all times you need to do what is best for your patient, and by not paging Derek, she isn't doing what is best for her patient. It's a pretty interesting ethical dilemma because in Grey's defense she thinks she is doing what is best, because that is what he asked for. Kill me, I'm defending Meredith...

Bailey seems pissed to even be having this conversation with Grey. She tells Grey she's going to play by the rules and wait for organs, not let someone die for theirs. She reminds Grey that they are not executioners. Not the response Grey was hoping for.
In a less tense part of the hospital, Lexie and Sloan are using the on call room for its only purpose on Grey's Anatomy, dirty sex. A line of interns begin to accumulate around the locked door because they foolishly thought that was a room to sleep in. Ew, would you really want to lay down on those sheets? They hear laughter and moans coming from the room and know they are shit out of luck, especially if old man Sloan popped a Viagra before heading in there.
The laughter is interrupted by screams of pain, and the interns take off knowing those aren't good sounds. Aren't these interns trying to be doctors? I hope I never start choking at a restaurant while these slackers are there. In the on-call room Sloan is screaming in pain. Lexie looks horrified and says that it's bent in the middle and she broke it. Don't be so rude Lexie, some people are born a little crooked. You just don't talk about it. Sloan yells for her to go get Torres.

I thought it was a good episode with the exception of Izzie/Denny. And what the hell did she mean when she finally got what he was saying and she said "I choose life?"

Yeah what a downer about Izzie. It's exactly what everyone thought. Thanks for dragging that shit out more than half the season.
I thought it was a pretty good episode otherwise, but it cracks me up about how little George is given. Seriously like 6 lines an episode, if that. What a joke.
And I also didn't get how Lexie breaking Sloan's dick meant she was awesome in bed. I don't buy for a second that that bumbling hoe is a rockstar in the sack, sorry.

I cried like a baby too.

TWSS, it was a good episode! I didn't even delete it from the DVR, thinking I might watch it again.
So, is Izzie leaving the show or what? I am so over the Denny crap I could scream.
The execution scene was gruesome and the whole ending was just sad.
I liked it! Great recap!

To me, it seems like there would be two ways to break a man's dick (during sex). First, if the woman is on top and falls off (backward, especially) or leans too far back. Second, if the man is not completely hard and the woman (on top, again) pushes down too hard trying to get him inside her. I'm sure there are others. Those just popped into my mind. I can't think of a GOOD way to break a man's dick! Of course those interns are idiots.
You know, interns are doctors. They are first year residents who have graduated medical school. Scary, huh?
Yes, this was a good episode, maybe because there really wasn't all that much of Izzie and Denny. I can't help but think this will have an impact on his career. I hate him now. I don't even think he's that good looking. I never want to see him again.
It seems that Sloan and Lexie are going to be a couple, which sucks. She sure got over George fast. Even moved into a different apartment without anybody knowing about it. I don't dislike her, I just don't see her with him. That man needs a REAL woman, not a little juice box girl.

I thought this episode was really well done. It reminded me, after sooooooo long, why I started watching in the first place. My husband, on the other hand, refuses to forgive the show for all the crap episodes in the last couple seasons.
So...Izzie is gone? I had to rewind and watch that last scene with her and Denny a couple times and I still don't completely get it. Is Denny her hell because he represented her demise? Why was he kept from 'dying all the way'? Because he needed to bring Izzie with him first? I don't get it...
Would have been nice if they had come to this conclusion with Izzie and Denny 10 episodes ago!

It's my theory that Grey's writers hate Katherine Heigl and wanted us to hate her (even more) by dragging this completely predictable storyline out to forever long. Jeffrey Dean Morgan was collateral damage. I was more affected by Dunn's death than Izzie's bad news. All I felt was joy that she will finally be gone from the show (*crossing fingers*). And take George with you. I will hate those two forever for pressuring GA to get rid of Isaiah W.
Now just get rid of Major Issues and I'll be even happier.
This was the best episode of the season so far because of the Izzie death news, Bailey, and Eric Stolz' great acting. He creeped me the freak out. I agree about the Emmy nomination.
Thanks for the awesome recap. I thought ya'll forgot about this show...

Ok, so i'm glad it was not just me about the bending the cock issue. I was afraid there was some amazing sexual maneuver that I didn't know, and was outing myself for not knowing in this recap. Pixie, I love your explanation of it. Because that was my thought too, there is no good way to break a cock.
So here are my thoughts about the Denny/Izzie conversation. I think Denny was saying that in the beginning, he thought his opportunity to "go back" to Izzie was his heaven. But he was supposed to go back to let her know she was dying. Once he was "back" he was unable to tell her that she was dying, because he was so happy seeing and banging her. So, him not telling her until it was potentially too late makes him now think that he is her hell. Because he didn't tell her sooner.
Does that make sense? Of course not. The whole thing is completely ridiculous. When did Grey's get so soap-operaish?
I don't know if Katherine or T.R. are leaving. I know they have both expressed that they wanted too in the past...but i'm not sure. I know people leave shows all the time, and they get replaced, and the show keeps going, but what do you guys think? With Isaiah, T.R, Katherine H and Kate Walsh gone, would the show ever be able to find the magic it once had again? On one hand, they were all so key, on the other hand, what made this episode great had nothing to do with any of them.

WOW TWSS...you gave George more play in one recap than he has had all freakin' season. Thanks for that! Yeah, maybe he wasn't my favorite character ever but they are stringing the poor guy along. That doctor with Asperger's got more screen time than him and she was only in two episodes!
Despite that, I am back with Grey's too. I was so going to break up with it but these past few eps have pulled me back in. Bailey and Dunn were going for Emmy's in this last ep. Great recap as always! Thanks.

"The whole thing is completely ridiculous. When did Grey's get so soap-operaish?"
Uhm...from the very first episode when Merideth jumped into bed with a stranger, and then discovered the stranger is essentially her new boss.
This show has always been a soap opera with the occasional outrageous medical story thrown in...people just don't like to admit it.
I won't miss George (as far as I know, he IS leaving.) Don't know if I'd miss Izzie at this point. But with those two gone, maybe they can bring Isaiah W. back and give Christina a dilemma: Major Issues or Dr. Ego (although why any man would want that moon-faced bitch is a mystery to me.)
As for Sloan, he should be with Torres. Wasting him on Light Grey is just wrong.

FYI - A penile fracture is an extremely rare injury caused by the rupture of the tunica albuginea, which envelops the corpus cavernosum penis. It is an uncommon injury, most often caused by a blunt trauma to an erect penis.
Penile fracture is a medical emergency, and emergency surgical repair is the usual treatment.

Pixielated: I agree, I never want to see Denny ever again, anywhere. They ruined him for tv by making him the most annoying ghost everrrr.
I miss Izzie as the rags-to-riches story of the trailer park girl that became a doctor and wanted to be badass. Now she's just annoying. I wish instead of bringing Denny back they did more with her and Alex and their on and off relationship.

As I remember, there was bad blood between Isaiah and Patrick Dempsey. They were the ones who had the big fight over the f-word on set. (They were ready to shoot a scene and T.R. Knight was late, so Isaiah let fly with the epithet and he and Patrick Dempsey got in a fight.)
Anyhow, that's how I remember it. But what Isaiah really did wrong (in addition to being stupid and/or homophobic), was that he ticked off Shonda Rimes and that is the kiss of death.
For some reason, I have the idea that Izzie is going to survive. (Read it somewhere?)

I'm so glad I have a place to vent my frustration about this show! (great recap - btw!)
I agree with everyone, I do think this particular epi was a vast improvement over the past few seasons. But, I remember thinking during the Izzie/Denny scenes, "you know, this entire story could've been done in one episode - with an awesome cliffhanger" But now, its like, we all know what is coming and now we don't give a shit. I think I'm in the minority here, but I actually like K. Heigl a lot, and Izzie used to have depth to her character. I guess it's not easy to keep a show relevant in its 5th season - but sex with ghosts? Broken penises? Interns operating on each other? Are you fucking kidding me?!?!
You know Isiah W. and Brooke Smith are like sitting at home grinning ear to ear - all, "F U bitches, that's what you get for shit-canning my ass!"
Not that I'll stop watching, but I'm not gonna like it!

That's how I remember it, too...and I always thought it was interesting Patrick Dempsey was more upset about a stupid word uttered in frustration than he was about T.R.'s repeated lack of professionalism and lousy work ethic (as he was/is often late to the set.)
Difficult stars are nothing new (see David Caruso.) TPTB could have worked something out with Dempsey and Washington. Instead they got rid of one of the best actors on the show. Big mistake.
