Meredith finds Yang to see how her mom's journal is turning out. Since she has had it for a few hours at work, surely she has had nothing better to do then read Mer's mom's old journal about banging their current boss. Yang has read parts of it, and she said it's pretty hot so far. No sex yet, but lustful glances and loaded questions. According to Yang, the romance of Dr. Grey and The Chief reads like a Victorian romance model.

The next scene...I'm not really sure how to describe it. This weird piano music starts playing, that sounds like it should be in a Jane Austen movie. The music plays as Yang walks down the hall alone and is joined by the Major. He walks very close to her, like weirdly close, and they just miss holding hands. I believe this scene is supposed to be erotic and sexy, but it comes across as weird and goofy. I think it's the music. The situation itself would be sweet and hot, but the music makes me think that one of them will eat a poison apple soon or something. They continue walking in slow motion until the Major barely touches her hand and walks the other way.

Well it was hot until that guy started playing the piano behind us.

After a long dry spell, we finally get a meeting of the boy's club! Derek happily tells Sloan about Grey mentioning kids earlier, and how that must prove she's ready for marriage. Well this is realistic. Men often talk joyfully with one another about how their girlfriends mentioned children casually in discussion. As they are talking, The Chief joins the boys and Sloan tells him the glorious news about Shepherd proposing. The Chief is thrilled for the two crazy kids for finally making it work. Plus he knows how those randy Grey's women are in the sack. The final sack that joins the boy's club is the Major, who Sloan tells about the proposal and asks the Major if he has proposed before. The Major awkwardly says he isn't the right person to ask....That isn't exactly a no, Major. Perhaps the baggage he is dragging around isn't only from the battlefield. The conversation is brought to an abrupt halt as Grey approaches. That mug could stop a freight train.

In another boy's club, the interns are doing their best job to impersonate 14 year old boys seeing boobs for the first time, as they check out horny man's ex-rays. They use every opportunity to get words like suck, reamed, crack and bend over and take it, into conversation, as they laugh maniacally five feet away from the patient. Shoulda gone to Mercy West dude. The Chief takes over the x-rays and promises the man that they'll get it out. I kinda want to know what #9 was.

In the clinic, Sadie is trying to find a vein on an unfortunate victim/patient. Izzie interrupts to see what's going on and the patient tells Izzie that she has tried three times and missed. If I was the patient that needle would be in Sadie's eye by now. If you've ever had a community school graduate try to find your vein and it takes them more than one try, you'll understand my violent reaction. Izzie's reaction mirrors my own as she pulls the needle away and reminds Sadie that they practiced IV's on themselves. She should be better at this. In front of the patient, Izzie begins teaching Sadie how to find the vein and has Sadie find hers and draw blood. I don't care how cheap the free clinic is. This is a good example of you get what you pay for. Izzie asks Sadie to run her blood, and seems relieved that she found a way to get herself checked out without telling anyone that a ghost said she's dying.

Ok, so not to be the first to comment on my own blog, but I just read that NY Post is reporting that after this season TR and Katherine are officially out.

Not that it's a huge shock, but it is kind of big. I wonder how they'll get rid of them? Do you think they'll kill Izzie off? And for George maybe he'll just slowly sink more and more into the background.

Yanksfan24:

Hey TWSS...love your recaps, they are LOL funny! Just to clarify though, Yang didn't tell Deth that Derek was going to propose. It only seemed like it she was actually referring to Deth's mom's journal, apparently the Chief was going to propose. My friends and I were like "Bitch...WHAT?" and then realized that she didn't tell her.
And thank goodness for Addison's phone call, all those roses and stuffed bears would make me say no to a proposal from McD, great hair genes be damned. Deth is all dark and twisty, a romantic and cheesy proposal is not her style.

PS: Honestly, not surprised at the Heigel/Knight news. Bye George...loved ya but they were screwing you over this season. Izzie don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.

Scarlet:

Heigl/Izzie be gone! But I will miss Bambi.

Oh, and yes, the "victorian novel" crap (that's what they were trying to pull with the slo-mo piano snooz-o) was absolutely annoying and out of place.

hejohnsonvc:

Ok, I have to admit, I loved the piano music sections. It probably helps that that is my favorite storyline right now - two people with depth that aren't self-centered - amazing!
I like that they're playing it like a slow, flirtatious romance, instead of "oops, we hooked up in the on call room, now what?".
Sorry the music rubbed you the wrong way, because those two are a really interesting couple!

MelBell:

I agree with hejohnsonvc. I kind of liked the piano music parts and they are my favorite couple right now. I kind of think they were playing off the way meridith's boss and mom were...Yang mentions how they didn't have sex right away...they just stole glances at each other and flirted. But during the second scene w/ the piano music and the Major freaks out because he sees a woman, I was like uh, you've already had that storyline w/ Derek and Addison. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I also thought that Sadie mixed up the results! I guess no.

I wasn't shocked to see they paired Arizona up with Torres. The minute she entered the bar I was like oh she's going to be Torres' new love interest. I like Arizona and hopefully she'll stick around.

Sadie is leaving the show too, I believe.

tracy831:

I thought the exact same thing when ABC said "for the first time ever..." I was like...wait, that's how this whole mess STARTED.
Also, just interesting note, Arizona played a lesbian on The L Word in...I think season 2 or 3

pixielated:

I predict that the blonde woman who the Major freaked out over is the wife or girlfriend of one of his buddies who was killed in that ambush that he is all messed up about. (In Iraq or Afghanistan? I forget.) He doesn't want to face her because he thinks that he should be dead instead of (or along with) his comrades.

Bailey's son is named George? I thought he was called "Tuck" or something like that. George Bailey--that's the guy in It's a Wonderful Life.

If Lexie and Sloan end up a couple, at least we'll never have to see them hook up again. I don't think Derek and Meredith every have sex anymore.

JasonR:

TWSS, great recap, except for missing that Yang didn't really tell Mer Derek was going to propose.

By the way, I must say, shame on you for dissing Jennifer Westfeldt as "plastic face". Fell in love with her in "Kissing Jessica Stein" and was glad to see her working. I still think she's gorgeous. If she's had some work done, it was good work.

Wonder how they're going to get rid of Izzie? I hope they do something really funny to kill her off, and not sentimental . . . like when on "E.R." they had a helicopter fall out of the sky and land on Dr. Romano. That would be hilarious. Or maybe she walks past a Denny's and the sign falls on her . . LOL.

TWSS:

You guys are 100% right about Yang not telling Meredith. My bad! I watched it again, and actually Mer's reaction was kind of cute....almost endearing.

I'm glad that other people liked the Yang/Major music scene. I really do think it was the music that threw me. I usually think that GA rocks when it comes to music choices, and the music choice alone will bring tears to my eyes in certain scenes. This music just grated on me a bit. If they had some sentimental indie pop song in the back, I probably would have loved it. I do like that relationship a lot though, and love that they are taking their time to develop it, and not just throwing them in the on call room to do it.

"Or maybe she walks past a Denny's and the sign falls on her . ."
LOL!! That is the funniest thing I've ever read. I would laugh for a good 10 minutes.

JasonR:

You crack me up every week, so I'm glad I could return the favor.

crmsnkatt:

I'd heard that Katherine & TR are leaving. Can't say I'm overly surprised or sad about either departure.

Maybe it's because I'm a huge nerd and love Austen (and all things related to Austen-type things), but I really liked the background music. I thought it set the mood for the "Victorian-era love story" angle they're working. I personally LOVE the fact that Yang and Hunt aren't hopping into the sack immediately and falling in love later. He's got too many issues that he needs to work on before he can truly love someone else. I certainly hope the blonde that showed up isn't a significant other, but knowing GA, it probably is.

The minute that Arizona followed Callie into the bathroom, I knew she was going to kiss her. I still don't buy Callie suddenly switching teams, but I think this one was handled WAY better than the fake chemistry between Sadie and Callie (I'm sorry, those scenes were just PAINFUL to watch).

Can't say I'm too excited about the crossover, despite the fact that I like Private Practice. The last time they did a crossover (when Addison came back for an episode), it was a let down. I don't expect much more this time around.

BRaps:

Hahahaha! That comment about a Denny's sign falling on Izzy was the funniest thing ever! You are awesome, JasonR.

Also, great recap TWSS!

fire@will:

Another great recap (with an assist to JasonR - Denny's, LOL).

I liked the piano scenes, too. I prefer that slow build up of tension to the jump into bed and exchange names later approach to romance.

Man! I wish I'd read your recap before sitting through the Private Practice. Nothing in that episode made me change my mind about not watching.

blahblah:

Countdown to George, Izzie, and Sadie's departures. Yay!!!

blahblah:

"Sadie brings Izzie her test results from the day and it turns out she is fine. However, the woman they were also treating has cancer and the outlook is not good. I'm wondering if Brain Child Sadie accidentally confused the charts. Normally I wouldn't entertain this thought, but at this hospital anything is possible, so you never know."

Yes. Looks like you nailed it a week early. Sadie prob mixed up Izzie's chart since she's completely incompetent as a doctor.

I saw Arizona coming on to Torres as soon as she walked into the bar. Apparently, Seattle Grace loves to recruit lesbian doctors. Who knew there were so many??

I guess I'm the only one who doesn't like the Major (and that crease between his eyebrows) or his budding rship with Cristina. No slow piano music is gonna convince me they are hot together. I still miss Burke :(

JasonR, I liked Jennifer in Kissing Jessica Stein too! But she did look kinda...off in GA. Too botoxed. It's ironic that actresses (cough*Ellen Pompeo*cough) get botoxed to look good but end up becoming worse actresses because we can't read the emotion on their faces. Oh Hollyweird.
