The Chief and Yang are talking to the mysterious blond who stopped the Major in his tracks last week. Her father is the patient being treated and it's Bernard!! (At least we know where he and Rose have been this whole season) The blond daughter dotes on her father as she tries to determine what's wrong with her. He asks her to leave for a bit and she says he's as stubborn as her second graders. Once she leaves, Bernard tells the doctors that he has cancer, but his daughter doesn't know. As he's describing his treatments, the Major walks in. Bernard looks scathingly at the Major and basically calls him a pussy for waiting until the daughter left instead of facing her like a man.
The Major avoids this conversation by telling Bernard that his daughter has the right to know about his cancer. Even though she's an adult who still calls her father "daddy" she isn't a bad person. Bernard is basically like, uh as much as I LOVE getting advice from the guy who walked out on my daughter the day before their wedding and broke up with her over email....you can pretty much can it. This conversation is only more awkward by the fact that Yang is listening to the entire conversation.

Just in case the awkward conversation quotient isn't high enough, we are then treated to the world's most awkward situation. Grey is checking up on Archer, while Naomi (who I'm finding increasingly more obnoxious) sings the song that Derek wrote for Addison for their wedding day. The song talks about cadavers and scalpels, which makes it all the more shocking that after such intense passion Addison ended up in Sloan's bed. Sloan joins them and finally notices the elephant in the room that is McD's girlfriend. Grey tells them it's fine and that she's planning on uploading the instant classic onto her ipod as soon as she gets home.
McD interrupts the jam session to give Archer's wormy brain update. Turns out the worms have multiplied and there are now eight, where there used to be one. Surgery isn't possible for Archer, and without saying so....all the doctors in the room know this means he is going to die.
The intern Day'O'Fun is in full swing with Izzie and a room full of dummies. Oh, and there are mannequins for the interns to work on. The first game consists of the interns getting a surgery and racing to see who can dress their mannequin first. The interns get their assignments and their off! Everyone frantically rushes to dress their mannequin with the exception of Sadie, who looks like her card was written in Japanese. Izzie runs around cheerleading the interns on, reminding them how fun this is. Brown-noser Lexie is not surprisingly the first to finish. When Sadie sees that Lexie is finished and correct, she throws the drape over her patient and calls finished! George looks at her patient and in so many words says that unless her patient is heading to the dentist, she is dead wrong.
Addison finds McD in the brain viewing room and starts a very well rehearsed speech. She tells him that she keeps him in a very small box, one which she thinks is petty and inconsequential and that even though it has very nice hair, she thinks about the box as little as possible. But now she needs him to come out of the box, and be the medical God she once knew him to be. She needs him to save her brother, and she 100% believes he can. McD begins to tear up a little and you can tell the Hero complex will be kicking in very shortly.

At the front desk, the Grey's Anatomy hotness significantly rises as Bailey hears someone asking about the Montgomery patient and it's none other than Taye Diggs. Rawr. Bailey asks about his connection to "the crew" since Addison is Shepherd's ex wife, Archer is Addison's brother, Naomi is Addison's best friend and Archer's girlfriend who is divorced from Derek's old best friend whom he doesn't speak to anymore. And, they are all doctors. And Taye Diggs is door #4! Ex- husband to Naomi and ex-best friend to Derek. Everybody got that?

Does this mean we'll never know who Sadie's very influential father is? What a train wreck her character was...
The screencap about giving Torres back her dignity was funny, but in a sad, too true kind of way. Why, oh why, can't they put her with Sloan? I will never buy her as a lesbian...she's just not as convincing with a woman as she is with a guy.
This epi crystallized why Merideth and Derek don't work for me. When he's with Addison, they're equals, and they challenge each other. Mer will always be less...and that's how he will always see her and treat her. (And so will his friends.)
Lifetime is running the first season right now. I watched the second epi Sunday night and confirmed several things: this show used to be far better written...Izzie actually was a badass doctor once upon a time, instead of a snivelling cheerleader...George has never added anything to the landscape...and Burke was a great chracter. The show is less for his absence.

Great recap, and thanks for summarizing the Private Practice part for me. It's still on my DVR but now I'm ok with skipping it. If you want to do a one week crossover, fine, but to really jam another show down our throats for 3 or more weeks is obnoxious.
I don't watch PP for a reason, namely when in the pilot the elevator started talking to Addison and she was talking back, I couldn't hit the channel button fast enough. All I could think was they were going to turn a great character into "Ally McBeal, M.D."
One thing I think you missed was that I don't think Karev was concerned about Izze because she was organizing the intern game, but rather because on two occasions it appeared there was something serious wrong with her field of vision. First she didn't see scissors that were on the table right in front of her, and then at the end of the intern game, when Alex was handing her the end of the scotch tape finish line she had a problem seeing it. Apparently our girl is not out of the woods yet.
Good riddance to Sadie. By far the most useless and annoying character yet on this show, and that's really saying something.

I actually watch PP, but I can see why people are annoyed by it. Addison is nowhere near the Addison she used to be on GA and I dearly miss the Badass Doctor and Amazing Woman that she used to be.
I was so excited for Sadie when she first arrived. But damn, did they ever drop the ball on that one! There are so many hanging plotlines, it looks like my grandmother's old angora sweater!
Mer/Der got to the point where they annoy the crap out of me. I loved the first three seasons where they were together, then not. It was drama and angst and I loved it. Now they're trying to keep them together but inject some of that drama back into it, and honestly, it's just not working for me.
Owen and Christina are, by far, my favorite couple on the show right now. They ignite my TV screen every time they're on. I hope that the GA writers don't just drop his issues with the war once they finally hook up. PTSD is a pretty serious issue, and I don't think that it's adequately covered (guess you can tell that I'm former military).
I love Alex & Izzie together when she's not all batshit crazy. Too bad they won't have time to fix her (I've heard that despite Shonda's previous claims, they're going to kill off Katherine's character), because I think that theirs could be an amazing relationship. I hope they don't turn Alex back into Prick Alex. =(
I won't be sad to see George go. He adds nothing to the show and never has. The Gizzie storyline made me almost as sick as watching him pine over Meredith (don't get me started on The Worst Sex Ever). Bye-bye TR. Hope you find something better.
Callie. Sigh... I loved her when she first came on. She was strong and smart and beautiful and amazing. Yes, the marriage to George was a nightmare (was there ever any doubt it would be??), but she should've been able to pick herself back up and MOVE ON! Her fling with Sloan was freaking HOT and I thought they'd be great together. They're amazing as friends (I love every scene they're in together), and could've been more amazing as a couple. But honestly, I think I like him better with Lexie just because of the person she's bringing out in him. Sensitive But Still Dirty Sloan is HOTTTT. I don't buy Callie as a lesbian AT ALL. Not even close. No.
I don't know what they're doing with Bailey, but I hope they do something soon. I hate seeing her float in the wind like this.
