The Major tries one last time to reason with Yang that he isn't a total asshole, even though he broke up with his fiancé via email. I mean, it's not like he texted her! Yang asks if the Major's mamma knows he is in town. His silence is telling. Although, you'd think after dealing with Mamma Burke, Yang would embrace someone whose mom isn't in the picture.

McD finds Archer/Addision and company and is ready to take on the experimental and controversial surgery. Shocking. Archer, whose loathe for McD is palpable challenges that McD can't do it. McD calls him a coward and even calls his profession cowardice. The neurologists rely on people like McD to either fix the problems they can't, or assume the responsibility when the case is hopeless. McD is up to the surgery and challenges Archer to see if he is.

After winning the sword fight, they begin the surgery. During his surgery, Bailey fills out forms to switch to pediatric surgery and gets crap from everyone around her. I guess to work with children you have to smile a lot, and nobody thinks she can cut it. Hey, just because she doesn't love her own child doesn't mean she won't love others! Addison waits for Derek to say his opening surgery line and when he does, she makes a longing face that fully says, how in the hell did I let you get away.

In an effort to inspire improvement, the Chief put a ticker on the wall of the number of people who want to become patients at Seattle Grace.

The Major meets with Bernard to tell him he has to update his daughter on his actual condition. Bernard argues that she is a Sunshine girl, and couldn't handle this type of news. She freaks when her students get a cold. I'm guessing she also went home every weekend in college to get the house keeper to do her laundry for her. While they are arguing this, Bernard begins to spit up blood. The daughter freaks, but the Major wusses out by saying everything will be ok and wheels Bernard into surgery. I don't blame him, I wouldn't want to be the one to pee in this girl's bed of roses either.

McD is performing Archer's surgery, which we get a good look at. The surgery consists of Derek removing circular cysts with an internal crane machine. When he brings the cyst out, they suck it dry and it turns into a fiery looking ball that becomes a flash of light then turns into a worm in the Petri dish. I'm not even kidding about that description. And then he goes in for the next one. That's it? Buster Bluthe should have been a brain surgeon if that's all it takes! He rocked the crane machine.

In a quick check up of patients not related to Addison, the pregnant woman is getting increasingly antsy and terrified about her brain surgery. She doesn't understand a hospital where she has to wait. And in Bernard's surgery, they find another tumor and the Chief insists that now they will have to tell the daughter. The Major tells them that after her mom died, her dad kept her completely sheltered so she wouldn't feel anymore pain, but Yang argues that she deserves to know what she is dealing with for the future. Anyone else sense double meaning behind that?

In Archer's head, McD busts the last cyst and accidentally releases the worm into the brain. McD isn't ready to bring in the crash cart, he wants to find the worm. Watch out for guys at the bar who always want the worm. He has two minutes to track down the worm or its game over. Addison and Naomi watch terrified from above as God-like McD gets the worm, pulls it out, watches it turn to gold and finishes successfully.

This is my last quarter so I better get the worm!

After a successful day of games, The Chief, Karev, Izzie and George wait for the winner. Izzie asks for a prize from the Chief as the interns round the corner. In a race to the finish, Lexie ends up winning. The chief tells Lexie that her prize is to scrub in with Shepherd and hold the doomsday sucker. Nothing Meredith hasn't done for McD I'm sure. Lexie is stoked about her prize.

Does this mean we'll never know who Sadie's very influential father is? What a train wreck her character was...

The screencap about giving Torres back her dignity was funny, but in a sad, too true kind of way. Why, oh why, can't they put her with Sloan? I will never buy her as a lesbian...she's just not as convincing with a woman as she is with a guy.

This epi crystallized why Merideth and Derek don't work for me. When he's with Addison, they're equals, and they challenge each other. Mer will always be less...and that's how he will always see her and treat her. (And so will his friends.)

Lifetime is running the first season right now. I watched the second epi Sunday night and confirmed several things: this show used to be far better written...Izzie actually was a badass doctor once upon a time, instead of a snivelling cheerleader...George has never added anything to the landscape...and Burke was a great chracter. The show is less for his absence.

Great recap, and thanks for summarizing the Private Practice part for me. It's still on my DVR but now I'm ok with skipping it. If you want to do a one week crossover, fine, but to really jam another show down our throats for 3 or more weeks is obnoxious.

I don't watch PP for a reason, namely when in the pilot the elevator started talking to Addison and she was talking back, I couldn't hit the channel button fast enough. All I could think was they were going to turn a great character into "Ally McBeal, M.D."

One thing I think you missed was that I don't think Karev was concerned about Izze because she was organizing the intern game, but rather because on two occasions it appeared there was something serious wrong with her field of vision. First she didn't see scissors that were on the table right in front of her, and then at the end of the intern game, when Alex was handing her the end of the scotch tape finish line she had a problem seeing it. Apparently our girl is not out of the woods yet.

Good riddance to Sadie. By far the most useless and annoying character yet on this show, and that's really saying something.

I actually watch PP, but I can see why people are annoyed by it. Addison is nowhere near the Addison she used to be on GA and I dearly miss the Badass Doctor and Amazing Woman that she used to be.

I was so excited for Sadie when she first arrived. But damn, did they ever drop the ball on that one! There are so many hanging plotlines, it looks like my grandmother's old angora sweater!

Mer/Der got to the point where they annoy the crap out of me. I loved the first three seasons where they were together, then not. It was drama and angst and I loved it. Now they're trying to keep them together but inject some of that drama back into it, and honestly, it's just not working for me.

Owen and Christina are, by far, my favorite couple on the show right now. They ignite my TV screen every time they're on. I hope that the GA writers don't just drop his issues with the war once they finally hook up. PTSD is a pretty serious issue, and I don't think that it's adequately covered (guess you can tell that I'm former military).

I love Alex & Izzie together when she's not all batshit crazy. Too bad they won't have time to fix her (I've heard that despite Shonda's previous claims, they're going to kill off Katherine's character), because I think that theirs could be an amazing relationship. I hope they don't turn Alex back into Prick Alex. =(

I won't be sad to see George go. He adds nothing to the show and never has. The Gizzie storyline made me almost as sick as watching him pine over Meredith (don't get me started on The Worst Sex Ever). Bye-bye TR. Hope you find something better.

Callie. Sigh... I loved her when she first came on. She was strong and smart and beautiful and amazing. Yes, the marriage to George was a nightmare (was there ever any doubt it would be??), but she should've been able to pick herself back up and MOVE ON! Her fling with Sloan was freaking HOT and I thought they'd be great together. They're amazing as friends (I love every scene they're in together), and could've been more amazing as a couple. But honestly, I think I like him better with Lexie just because of the person she's bringing out in him. Sensitive But Still Dirty Sloan is HOTTTT. I don't buy Callie as a lesbian AT ALL. Not even close. No.

I don't know what they're doing with Bailey, but I hope they do something soon. I hate seeing her float in the wind like this.
