This week on Grey's Anatomy the writers did something that makes me happier than most things. They proved me right. The only thing I enjoy more than being right is winning, so Grey's....it has been awhile, but you made me VERY happy tonight. FINALLY. In my last recap I said that I don't like the zone defense because I think people slip through holes. And this week, not only did that exact thing happen...but someone died because of it. So thank you Grey's Anatomy. Thank you.

Exhibit A of why running the zone sucks.
Usually I write the recap as I watch, but this week was a little different so I'm writing post watching. And I have to say, I kind of loved this episode. Not sure how this recap will go, but let's jump right in and find out.
The episode kicks off with Meredith monolouging as she waits to be released from the hospital. The music is eerie and there is serious lightning, so we know some serious shit went down here.

Plus we see this....
Alex is pacing outside in the rain and suddenly launches something at the wall, smashing it. All the residents and attendees and interns are sitting in the hallway looking terrified. MWN (Mercy West Newbie) Pixie says that someone is getting fired and Skipper bites her nails and says to shut up. The tension is palpable and Karev wonders how long they have to wait, to which Jackson asks him mockingly if he needs to make a phone call. The tension erupts and Karev springs to hit Jackson. A full fledged fight breaks out, old against new.

McD breaks it up by cracking Karev's back but the newbies are infuriated by the favoritism.
The Chief finally shows up to break it up. He is furious and lets everyone know that what happened tonight is inexcusable and that nobody can leave until he knows exactly what went down. As the viewer, we have no idea what happened, all we know is that it caused a lot of blood, and that someone is getting fired for it. And we begin the interrogation of each individual doctor to find out exactly what happened and whose fault it was.
The major is up first and gives a lay of the land to the chief. There was a hotel fire that caused massive casualties. Tons of patients in terrible various states of devastation all came in at once. When the Chief asks who was on the patient in question, the Major doesn't know because everyone was everywhere.
Yang is up next as the Major indicates that she was the first one to take the victim in question's chart. She starts her version of the story from being paged to the OR. She was in Meredith's room venting about the newbies and waiting with Mer for Bailey to discharge her. Yang rushes to the OR and takes the chart from the Major, but upon hearing of a more interesting traumas coming in she passes the charts off to an eager Pixie and Skipper.
Pixie and Skipper are annoyed that Yang was rushing outside for the good cases while they got stuck with a mom and son who just have burns. The two girls check up on the patient Kathy (who's fate we already know) and her son. As they do Pixie confides that she thinks they will end up getting fired because everyone hates them. Skipper is more positive because she will eventually win them over with her winning personality. Pixie, having met Skipper disagrees. As the girls talk the other traumas begin to roll in, including a man with an ax coming out of his chest. The girls are momentarily distracted and again disappointed at their terrible fate for being stuck with the boring cases.

I know, the Forehead distracts me too.
Skipper tells Kathy that everything looks good except for the third degree burns, at which point she passes her on to Dr. Sloan to check those out. Welcome back Dr. Sloan! We missed you last week. Skipper tells the Chief that once she handed Kathy over to Dr. Sloan she went to go help Bailey. After she tells us this, we see Dr. Bailey and Forehead treating the axe wound patient. Forehead, most likely blinded by the glare of his upper head region, falls backwards pulling the axe with him. Bailey yells at him as blood flies everywhere and Skipper rushes into help.
Back with the Chief, Bailey quickly corrects that Forehead didn't fall...but fainted. Bailey hopes he has a brain tumor because nothing else is acceptable. Forehead tells us that his dizziness was the result of a blood drive he partook in.

Great recap! This episode DID rock!

This was a good episode...but it was apparent to the viewers what killed the woman when the initial flashback was shown of the ax-in-the-chest guy rolling past the newbies while they lamented their boring cases...and in the process the one lost her place in the exam she was supposed to be giving. I'm not even a medical professional, and I know people exposed to smoke inhilation should have their throats checked...because the affects can be delayed, but the damage is apparent when the throat is checked.
So I maintain it wasn't the "zone defense" that killed the patient, but the childish attitudes of the residents and interns. They seem to forget that the patients and the patients' care are what's important...and that all these cases have something to teach them. I wouldn't want any of the selfish, self absorbed, idiots working on me if I was sick or injured.
Also, I think the big-forehead newbie guy is really ugly...and not that great of an actor. Am I alone?

What kind of a twisted world is it when DOCTORS, those who made the Hippocratic oath "first do no harm", are more interested in how much harm they can get their greedy, bloodthirsty scalpels into?
It's disgusting how a 'minor' injury/condition is scoffed at in favour of the gross & precarious. Every patient, no matter how insignificant his/her malady is, deserves the same care, attention and respect as the ones at death's door.
It's an excellent episode dealing with such narcissists. Chief is so absorbed in trying not to upset the cart that he does just that. Not only that, the 'zone' stuff just perpetuates the 'us vs them' mentality.
Get it together, Dude! Figure out your ship and redesign your delegations, OR let McD do it!

This was a great episode! The first exciting Grey's episode in a long time. I couldn't understand why no one could figure out whose patient it was. I kept yelling at the screen, "It's Notebook Girl's patient!" I mean, she's the one that examined her originally, so what was the big mystery?
I think Forehead looks a Cro-magnum caveman guy. I could get behind the idea of getting rid of him, but I think we have our group now - that final shot of the episode is our gang of MDs. I bet Meredith will be home recovering from her surgery for a while with maybe just the occasional voice over.
Let's hope Grey's keeps getting better. It is good to have the new faces around. But why are there no new attendings? I hope they at least throw in a cardio person for Christina.

LindaLC...they are bringing in Kim Raver as a cardio surgeon, which I find completely unbelievable. Cardio surgeons have to be very physically strong, and Kim Raver is an anorexic little east that a stiff wind could blow away. She is booked for at least a half dozen episodes.
They need to bring back Isaiah Washington as Preston Burke...and throw a kink into the Yang/hunt "romance."

That should have been "anorexic little beast."

Great idea Cattyfan! Having Burke back would make things interesting. I don't like Hunt.
Who is Kim Raver?

Long, narrow face with big eyes...somewhere between horsey and skeletal. Scrawney little body.
She's been in Third Watch, 24, Lipstick Jungle, and Night At The Museum...among other things.

Burke back is what I have been hoping for all along. He never should have left. The chemistry they had was really great. I cannot picture Christine in heart surgury without him.
Please let Burke come back???
I like the Charlie guy. How can people say such things about a persons face? He is a good looking guy. The forehead never was noticed till you said it. He could comb his hair down a little if he wanted. He's fine.

Burke needs to come back as I said just now but I still want to keep Hunt as he is so so sexy. I just think the chemistry that Christine had with Burke was Grey's Anatomy at it's best.
