Like I said, disappearances happen. Pains go phantom. Blood stop running. And people, people fade away. There's so much more I have to say, but I’ve disappeared.
Well, that was an introduction to think about. The words themselves are very interesting, but when you look at what is happening on the screen, I can't help but laugh. No, I am not saying that Meredith's drowning is funny, but the way they choose to portray it is awful. I am not sure if Meredith is just a bad swimmer or whatever, but we just saw this guy with an open fracture climb onto the same platform that Meredith fell off of like fifteen minutes ago. She's perfectly healthy. A little thin, yes, but still healthy.
Of course the creepy girl that won’t say anything exacerbates this whole situation. I actually don't think her portrayal is that bad. It's clear that the girl is in shock, and even though she felt attached to Meredith, I'm not surprised that she isn't running around looking for help. But why did they have to make her so...CREEPY? If the Grudge had taken place in Seattle instead of Japan, I am sure this girl would have been prominently featured.
So, Meredith has fallen, and at least she is treading water. I know that she doesn't have a lot of insulation to protect her from the elements, but it's not like she fell off the platform one minute and was two miles off shore the next minute. The water is cold, but it's not like she is dodging icebergs out there. Really, I can hardly take this moment seriously.
The worst part of this situation for Meredith is that there are people out there looking for her, but most of them are back at the hospital. I could have lived with the rest of the episode if the hospital scenes were at least something to write home about, but they weren't.
George is still looking for the son of the woman who was about to go into surgery with Dr. Bailey. George lied and said the boy would be OK, and when Dr. Bailey called him out on that, he gave what I thought was a great explanation. He said, "If my lie helped saver her life, I am OK with that." Instead, Bailey is complaining that when the woman came out of surgery, she would have to explain that the woman wouldn't die, but she might wish that she were dead because her son wasn't around. Well, I would like my own explanation, like why is Dr. Bailey using a surgical intern to play Sherlock Holmes when there are people who, I don't know, NEED SURGERY?
And let's not forget about Alex. Karev is still trying to keep tabs on the woman he rescued, and he has been given unofficial mourning triage duty in the clinic. He complains that there isn't any system, and although it takes him about 30 seconds to work up his Alex-anger and lash out, he really wants to help these people. Instead of waiting for help to come to him, he improvises instead.
The family members were all worried because they had a bunch of lists to look at, but they were not being updated. The problem the hospital had is that there were a lot of people being treated that couldn't be put on to lists because there was no way to identify them. Alex decides to grab a Polaroid camera and starts taking pictures.

My friends have been raving about this show for the past year or so, saying "It is the best show on TV" So I finally get season 1 and 2 on DVD and watch them straight through. I loved them.
I then watched the first few episodes of season 3 on the Internet....
All I can say is that the last few eipsodes have been bad, and this one was real bad. Not sure what is happening...but with season 1 and 2 fresher in my mind, this is not the show I started watching over the holiday break.

that whole opening scene was just UGH! The surgery scenes were awful too. The best part of this episode was the interaction between Alex and Addison. I find it hard to believe that they'd kill off Mer, so I'm going with the theory that someone suggested where she'll technically "die" but they'll restart her heart and bring her back. Maybe Izzie will bake her some muffins so she'll get her strength back. I love to see Mer pretend to eat!

OMG how hot was Kyle Chandler at the end? A pretty good episode overall...

If they do end up killing of Meredith, I think they'll keep her on as the narrator a la Desperate Housewives. I mean, the show is called Grey's Anatomy so they would never just axe her completely.
That being said, I think these episodes are getting a little hard to believe. I mean, even if she couldn't manage to get out, she could have at least tread water for a little while longer or doggy paddled over to some sort of item to hold on to.

I atually really liked the episode. I thought it was dumb that shep was actually able to find her in the water without any help, and that everyone was able to stand around while one doctor got operated on as the rest of the hospital was in the middle of a crisis but hey, it's thursday night tv. i was entertained.

I actually just started watching the show this year (since it's a major topic of conversation among my labmates) and I find it kind of ridiculous.
Leah3t (#6), I am with you on Derek's miraculous Mer rescue sans Coast Guard assistance.
Were we supposed to think that Mer voluntarily "disappeared"? If so, why choose to drown? Could there be a worse way to go?!

I really wouldn't be surprised if they killed Meredith off and kept her on à la Mary Alice. I actually mentioned that jokingly in the recap of the Code Black episode last year, but I could really see them doing it. I mean given how long they've managed to keep Denny on the show, I'm sure they'd have no problem keeping beyond-the-grave Meredith on for like eight seasons.

I thot it was just me, but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one rolling my eyes with this show. This used to be a good show but ever since they re-introduced Denny last season, it's started on a downward spiral. I'm going to start watching this show via recap only, same as with Desperate Housewives.
Sorry, Grey's, you lost me at 'Denny'!

Seriously, what the hell is up with Izzy's problem with Callie? The "I believe" speech was going fine until they put that line in there. Jesus LET IT GO. You were obsessed with Denny for months and months and nobody called you out on what a horrible mistake that was.
I am totally lost as to what the motivation for her disliking Callie so much is, other than her being selfish and wanting George all to herself. Unless she's in a relationship and then she doesn't care about George's problems anymore.

Meredith will live, and it will be Addison to save her. Derek looked so sad while Mer was being worked on. Izzie was just plain mean to George. Addison & Alex are going to make a great couple. Burke and Christina are not going to make it, period.

I couldn't figure out why with three big guys standing around, they couldn't get their buddy out from under the car but somehow miraculously, he was out and in an ambulance. What did they do to set him free that they couldn't do before?

suebee (#12) Thank you! I was thinking the same thing about the three friends the past two eps. These guys weigh about 600-700 lbs combined and they can't figure SOMETHING out?! Hello?
Burke and Christina are not going to make it, but I think Meredith will.

AWFUL again. So many ridiculous things: We're seriously supposed to think Meredith was kinda sorta attempting suicide? Izzie had to insert that rude non sequitur into an already stilted, awkward speech? We have to deal with Denny AGAIN? (m-ruv, I'm sorry you had to see that -- I imagine you having a small heart attack.) In the interest of full disclosure, however, I will admit that Dempsey got to me with his manly tears. Please, please, please let this week not suck...

J-Unit I can't agree with you more. This show needs to get back to what made it great. I know it's not cool to talk about shows "jumping the shark" anymore but I fear this 3 episode arc may have been a shark jumping moment. I hope the writers can get their act together. Great to see a cameo from Kyle Chandler a/k/a Coach Taylor from Friday Night Lights as our favorite exploding EMT from the "Code Black" episode.

Actually I now recall he was bomb squad, not an EMT.

It is cold enough in Puget Sound to die, no doubt about it...if the cold doesn't get ya, the sewage and toxic dumping will.
Especially when you're the Pomp and weigh so little.

Episode sucked (excellent recap as alwasy though). Hoping for redemption this week.
What Meredith couldn't have yelled for help? It's not like she was knocked unconscious. I hope they kill her off.
