Bennett promises that if Peter loses control of his power when he confronts Sylar, Noah Bennett will put him down. His name is "Noah"? Who knew?

Back in the Kirby Plaza Building, Nikki and Micah return to find Mohinder and Molly helping D.L. in the hall. Micah works a little magic and the group slips into the locked down elevator just as the guards pry open the stairwell door. Mohinder's bear is longer than ever. The guy is barely recognizable.

Mohinder Almighty

Out in front of the Plaza, Sylar and Peter square off. With Bennett effectively out of the game thanks to some of Sylar's telekinesis the two men are left to settle it.

"Didn't I kill you before?"

"Didn't take."

Yeesh. Somebody get Peter a superhero banter guidebook.

Parkman comes out of the shadows, gun blazing. Sylar stops the bullets with a move he learned last night while watching The Matrix and fires them back at him, putting him down.

With a parking meter, Sylar continues his beat down of Peter, until Nikki (COOLEST moment of the episode!!!) grabs it from him and returns the favour.

Peter recovers and takes over for her.

"Go back to your family. I got this."

Stripping off his jacket to reveal his white shirt, Peter and Sylar become the twenty-first century equivalent of the old white hat, black hat westerns.

It's old imagery, but it still works.

A few punches later, Sylar is laughing at Peter, who is rapidly losing control of his power.

"Turns out you're the villain, Peter."

arthritispainsabitch.gif

Arthritis pain's a bitch.

Can someone PLEASE tell me why Peter doesn't just fly away right at this moment?

Anyhow, Hiro arrives and as Isaac predicted, plunges his sword into Sylar's chest. Just when it looks like Hiro might be able to stop Peter by using the sword on him, Sylar uses his telekinesis to fling him away. Hiro teleports before he can be crushed against the wall of the Plaza.

As the power grows further and further out of control, Claire comes running out of the darkness. She shares a look with her father and takes his gun.

Peter begs her to do it. She hesitates. When all that's left is the shot, out of the sky drops Nathan!

"The future isn't written in stone."

"I can't let you die."

"And I can't let everyone else. You saved the cheerleader, so we could save the world."

"I love you Nathan."

"I love you too. You ready?"

With that, the Petrelli Brothers ascend to the heavens. Moments later, night is briefly transformed into day, but New York remains.

algoreozone.gif

Now which one of you smart asses is gonna answer to Al Gore about the new gaping holes in the ozone layer?

In the aftermath, Molly begs Parkman not to die. As he's loaded into the ambulance, Mohinder's voice fills the air.

"We dream of hope. We dream of change. Of fire, of love, of death. And then it happens. The dream becomes real. And the answer to this quest, this need to answer life's mysteries finally shows itself. Like the glowing light of the new dawn."

Bennett sums it all up.

"Let's go home."

"Home where? Our house burnt down."

"Home is anywhere our family is together."

Pan to the blood stain where Sylar fell and the trail that leads to an open manhole cover.

"So much struggle for meaning, for purpose. And in the end, we find it only in each other. Our shared experience of the fantastic and the mundane. The simple human need to find a kindred, to connect, and to know in our hearts, that we are not alone."

britta.gif

Dear New Yorkers, If you don't own a Britta, now's the time to buy one.

End of Volume One.

As the tag, we see Hiro fall to the ground, teleported to a tranquil field.

Only, it's not so tranquil. On one side, some feudal Japanese warriors draw their bowstrings to their cheeks. On the other, a single rider bearing the "Godsend" symbol on his standard brandishes his blade. Then, we are given the date. Hiro has managed to teleport himself outside of Kyoto, Japan, in the year 1671, just in time for an eclipse. Wait a second. Is that Daddy Yakamura?

can peter only use one of his new found powers at a time? that would be my only explanation for why he didn't just fly himself out of there, since he was occupied by going nuclear.

I think Peter is still trying to get a hold of all his powers. With those distracting bangs on his mind, he can only use one at a time. Remember how long it took him to control the invisibility cloak?

Is Sylar really dead? Maybe the BoogeyMan that scares Molly pulled Sylar into the sewer to drain his powers.

I was a little let down, but then I didn't know what to expect. I knew they weren't going to blow up the city, but the way they saved Peter was hokey. Nathan flying in like Superman....

Nice recap.

The easy explanation as to why Peter didn't fly himself was that he just didn't have any control at that time. If he did, he wouldn't be glowing.

I totally agree that Niki grabbing the parking meter and hitting Sylar was the best. I wish it could've looked cooler (like her catching it in midair), but it was still awesome nonetheless.

Hiro's training might be explained that he had previous training before, but he didn't have the "warrior's spirit" or whatever.

I'm wondering why none of them noticed Sylar going away.

did anyone else think that was LINDERMAN's laugh when Peter was beating up Sylar?
It sounded like it to me.

I hate to be "nitpicking guy", but this episode was a bit of a letdown. So much buildup for the Sylar vs. Peter fight. And then people take turns trying to hurt him. Taking turns is lame. Peter has so many powers (perhaps all of Sylar's now too?) and he actually resorts to punching Sylar.

So why didn't Peter fly away (maybe he couldn't), why didn't Claire just shoot him, since Peter can heal? Can Peter really survive a huge explosion? Are we supposed to assume that Nathan knew just when to let go of Peter, or is he supposed to be dead?

Hiro stabbing Sylar was cool, but I really hate the "say something and then do it" thing. Sylar reacted fast enough to stop bullets, but Hiro manages to get off a sentence and then stab.

It looks like Sylar is alive, but there better be a damn good explanation for it.

Nice to see you back, GB! I was afraid that you left for good. Can't wait to read your LOST recap.

Back to Heroes...I was thinking the same thing that Merick mentioned, if Peter can heal, why didn't Claire just shoot him to stop him from exploding and he'd heal? I too was a little let down by the Sylar/Peter fight. After seeing so many Comic Book Movies, I was expecting something along the X-Men fights. Oh well, I still can't wait for next season!

sweetjane Author Profile Page:

for those of you who didn't pay attention, peter once nearly died because of a piece of glass right in the top of his neck. apparently his achilles heel, so to speak. and when he told claire she'd have to be the one to shoot him a few episodes ago, he told her "you know where."

OMG...I totally LOL'd in my office at that one...

I thought it was pretty good, and i kinda liked where they all came together to fight the big bad boogeyman. Nikki was VERY cool for once! (FYI, hubby saw her on that h/s football movie w/ Vanderbeek. Dream Whip Bikini anyone?)

I wondered how come Hiro didn't chop Sylars head off, he was there, there was opportunity...but, i guess we'll find out next season. The last fight was not as 'dramatic' as i would have liked, but the result was as expected.

All in all, Season One of Heroes was by far the best watch TV this year!

I can't believe how many recappers I've read that thought that Peter could just fly away by himself. If he couldn't get a grip on his nuclear hands, how could he possibly have summoned the power to fly?? Seems pretty obvious to me. Plus, the meaning of Deveaux's whole "unconditional love" speech became very clear at that moment - although Deveaux said Peter was capable of uncondtional love and I'd argue Nathan was showing a bit more of it when he flew him off into space!

GB - you didn't mention the cockroach that was crawling in Sylar's blood stain. We saw a cockroach the last time we thought Sylar was dead at Primatech Paper...

Where the SMEG is last week's Lost recap?? Dude, season finale last night and no recap yet from last week? Am I on crack? did i miss it? C'mon Greybishop, your recaps are so f-ing awesome, and I am dying ova 'ere.....I am gonna hold my breath till i turn blue!!!!!

Unlike so many other Heroes fans, I loved this episode and didn't think it was a "letdown" at all. When you consider the level of greatness that we've come to expect from this show, what is a "letdown" exactly? I'd argue that a Heroes letdown is the equivalent of the best epsiode of most other shows out there.

Anyway, I have a question: Why didn't Claire just shoot Peter, then remove the bullet? That would have been the simpler solution. And will Nathan live or does he blow up with Peter? I guess he could take him up high enough, then drop him and fly away. Nathan was just starting to grow on me too... he was one of the more interesting characters; he was torn between the life of a Hero and a normal existence, but finally came into his own.

Also, could that ancient warrior be Kensei himself? And if so, perhaps Kensei had some sort of ability that made him such a great warrior. That was my first thought, but I'm not sure if the dates work properly. Maybe somebody could fill me in.

I'm counting down the days til next season. Can't wait to see the "boogeyman" and suspect that it's somebody we know, just because it seems like something the Heroes writers would do.

Also, I don't think Candice's power has anything to do with bending light like Micah thought. I think it has more to do with her changing people's perceptions of reality by screwing with their senses (sound, touch, vision, etc.)

"Also, could that ancient warrior be Kensei himself? And if so, perhaps Kensei had some sort of ability that made him such a great warrior."

I've always assumed that Hiro IS Kensei--I think Ando's comment about one day people telling stories about Hiro is the setup for that in Season 2.

I am still laughing about that...
Greybishop--will you marry me? :O)

BlueEyedAngel Author Profile Page:

When I first heard about the "Boogeyman that saw her" I thought she might be talking about the Haitian. I figured since he could get into people's minds, he could get into hers.

Dave-it would be quite interesting to find out that Hiro is Kensei, but I've been wondering if Hiro's father has a similar power, and he is Kensei.

Merick, you read my mind. i was so psyched for the finale, and i felt it was totally anti-climactic. and everyone made things so much harder than necissary!! usually i just go with it, but Hiro hands down annoys me the most often bc he acts like he can't do whatever he wants. if he wants to save ando AND kill sylar, whose to stop him? what he SHOULD have done is gone to future hiro and been like "dude what do i do" instead of giving up when he died. SO WHAT? YOU CAN TRAVEL TIME AND SPACE!!!

also, i have to say that sylar is my favorite villian of all time- he's complex, super-powerful and so hot i get a little tingle whenever he's on screen. he better not be dead!
