I am now resigned to the fact that we have to deal with the narrator. It looks like getting rid of him will be about as easy as getting rid of the Teamsters at a New Jersey mall construction, so for the love of my kneecaps and my sanity, I will know just fast forward over his bullshit. Mohinder has become almost a minor character lately, but we still rely on his insights at the beginning of the show to keep us informed of a number of things. This week, Mohinder talks a little bit about migration, saying, "When a change comes, some species feel the urge to migrate. They call it [unintelligible], the pull of the soul to a far-off place. Following a scent in the wind, a star in the sky. The ancient message comes, calling the kindred to take flight, to gather together. Only then can they hope to survive the cruel season to come."
Although it has never been said out loud, I think that we have sort of figured out that the heroes are going to come together somehow. We know that there is an enemy out there (Sylar) that seems to be more powerful than any of the other heroes alone. We also know that there is a catastrophe (nuclear holocaust) another few weeks away that is going to take more than just one person to prevent. I mean, if Jack Bauer were a hero (secret ability: the uncanny ability to kick major ass), it would all be done in a day. Then again, it looks like Jack is going to be stuck in China for a bit. Stopping nuclear blasts is no problem, but he does have to get through over a billion communists first. I guess they'll have to call it 25!

Love the "Brown Skin Lady" quote. Favorite song, ever! Moving along..
The scene where Nathan shoots up into the air ("up, up and away !" according to Hiro) made me wonder... has our corrupt Congressman been practicing in his free time? Maybe during times of intense pressure, he can pull a Clark Kent on us.
I agree with you on the HRG being kind of a good guy at times. The way he handled Brody...was the way he should've been handled. So basically he's going to sue Claire because she tried to kill him even though he killed her (after trying to rape her), stripped her down, then threw her in a river? Suuuurrre buddy!
I'm also thinking Micah must have some kind of power. From the previews it looks like DL has the ability to go through walls or something. If both Niki and DL have that superhero gene, Micah has got to have a piece of the DNA action too, right? Either that or the kid's power is just being really smart. Doesn't he always seem to know what's going on without anyone telling him?
I'm also thinking that HRG and CBG aren't that bad (for now) and just want to know how advanced these people's skills are so far... maybe. And I hate Mohinder. The mac-n-cheese comment had me dying.

Hiro, will you marry me?
And J-Unit, when the congressman put on his glasses, the first thing I thought of was "take me to the oracle"
I love this show, love it. I have only one small criticism. Why must they give us all the twists and the end of the episode?
I guess I'm used to Jack Bauer and his knockdown, all out, twists at the beginning of the show.

Minor correction (not that its real important) but Peter did not take the money Nathan offered him outside his apartment.
Another thing that may be a minor detail, but we've heard about Nathan's wife a couple times now, but have never seen her. At his speech where he said Peter tried to kill himself, he said something about his brave wife not being there. Then the uptight asian lady mentioned something about "...with your wife being in the condition she is in." I just wonder if this will come into play later in the show.
Love Hiro! In the diner when Nathan asks if he won the election, Hiro thinks and then exclaims "Waterslide!"
I'm w/ you that HRG maybe isn't bad at all. I guess we shall see.

Peter is 90s-era Keanu Reeves and Nathan is Matrix-era Keanu Reeves.

Did I miss where Hiro learned to speak fluent English? When he was in the diner, he and Nathan had a normal converstaion and then after that on the phone with Peter, he couldn't speak English again...

One thing that confuses me regarding Hiro: When he first time traveled to NYC, he went 5 weeks into the future. Then he saw the explosion, and went back in time. However, he remembered what had happened. Then we see Hiro from the future telling Peter what he needs to do. So why doesn't geeky Hiro remember this, since he obviously went back in time? Does that make sense?

i kind of feel like DL's super power might be invisibility. i mean niki walked right past that door and he wasn't there. then all of a sudden, he was.

Waffles! I agree JoJo, I want to go to that diner. They have such interesting customers.
Mohinder is ticking me off. Talk about waffles...every other minute he wants to throw in the towel. I'll bet his Dad would be so proud of him. UGH.
I love Matt but he seems like such a doofus. So far his power has been used to find the little girl, make his wife's eyes roll back in her head and foil a robbery.
Love this show...Love this recap.

I don't know what DL's superpower is, and the graphic novel on the NBC site isn't clear, either. But, it does give a little DL information.
Plexitoes - ok, Hiro's character is very confusing, because he could be in several times at once. I believe, though, that the Hiro that Peter encountered was a super-future Hiro (in like 2 or 3 years from now). So, the present Hiro would not remember this encounter because the present Hiro has not yet experienced it. I believe he will experience it in 2 or 3 years. Does THAT make sense?

I believe, Gunn...er DL has the power that Kittie Pry has in X-Men. He can walk through walls.
Did Nathan pull money out of his a$$ or what, how did he pay for the shirt and the coffee?? I know I shouldn't look to much into it, just bugs me sometimes.

txgurl (#13): I was thinking the same thing. I'm not a guy but I'm pretty sure they don't carry their wallets in their pajama pockets. His people could have given him the money but I didn't see any come in the diner. Oh, well.
Great recap, J-Unit but there is a mistake the writers made with Mohinder. When Future Hiro stops time, Peter is standing next to Mohinder and when time is going again, Peter is halfway down the car. Now to Mohinder it should have looked like Peter moved that distance in the blink of an eye so wouldn't that be proof of special powers?!?
Dent (#6): I don't think the conversation Hiro had with Nathan was "normal". Hiro was speaking a heavily accented broken english while Future Hiro's english was perfect.
And I agree with others, DL wasn't just hiding in the corner. He wasn't then was there. Obviously he has a power and walking through walls would explain how he got out of custody. And Micah must have a power because both his parents have the gene.
This show is way too good for television. Can't wait to see what happens next.

I'm not sure if the online graphic novel is considered 'canon', but it goes into a little bit more detail about DL this week, in terms of superpower and in terms of why he was in jail. I won't spoil it for anyone, but check it out if you're interested. Also, the comic from a few weeks ago showed Nathan flying into a burning building to rescue someone, so I think it's safe to assume he's been doing a little practicing.
Looks like we're going to see a lot more of Niki 2.0 next week (as opposed to just seeing 'more' of Niki like we did last week) ... it would be interesting if she just turns out to be a nut with multiple personalities!

dumbanddumber- speaking of the graphic novels: In the first one, it tells of Mohinder being haunted as a child by stories of monsters, specifically one named Kali (?) who tried to kill mankind. The depiction of this Kali person in the comic looks very much like the "person" (could be symbolic?) Peter painted when he finished Issacs painting.

Great recap J-unit. This show just doesn't disappoint me. Can someone tell me what was the finished painting? What did Peter paint at the bottom, I couldn't figure it out.
Hiro's face when Nathan landed outside the diner, was priceless. I was hoping the security from the show Las Vegas, would have been at the Montecito hasseling Hiro and Ando. Would have been a funny cross-over.

Thank you Samynoodle!! I was trying for the life of me to remember where I've seen her from. Probably helps that I've only seen that movie once.
Anywho! I really enjoyed this last episode!
HRG just totally won me over with his actions in it. I loved how concerned and angered he was when he learned what had happened to Claire. I also don't think he's a bad guy. IS he good? I don't really think so.. I think he's gonna be more of a neutral.
Peter painted a dead cheerleader (least that's who it looked like) at the bottom of the painting may1. She was laying on the ground with blood surrounding her and was sporting a huge hole in her torso.

Great Re-Cap!
I missed something though. How'd Ando know where to find Niki?
I can't remember who posted it last week but they hit the nail right on the preverbial head!. Peter does assume (soak? abosorb?) other peoples talents or so it seems. But is he able to retain those powers? (Probably not). It's kinda a downer thinking that when he's all by hisself that he's just a normal guy. :(
And Yes, it is bugging me exactly what IS niki's power?...so far she's either bi-polar/ schitzo / severly pms-ing. (I'm a chick and allowed to say it :P)...

Something about the diner bugged me - Nathan is so super-cautious about appearing in any way different or bringing any attention to himself, yet he lands in full view of a diner full of people?? And walks in half-naked??? Just doesn't fit his usual MO.
And I noticed Hiro's use of english also. He could have a conversation with Nathan but not be able to warn Isaac at all??
Anyone else notice that DL (Niki's husband) looks similar to the Eraser? Just a coincidence?
And do we know why Sylar killed that whole family in the scene where Matt found the little girl?

twnpeeks: Ando knew where to find Niki by doing a "whois" lookup on her website (he mentions this). It gives information about who registered the domain - address, phone number, etc.
Anyone else notice - at the very beginning of the show, when everyone is frozen you see a guy spilling his briefcase. When time starts again, you can see him in the background cleaning up the mess. The only problem is that if you look closely he's actually not picking up anything - rather the actor is pretending to pick up paper. Could they not afford real paper? Did they think it would be out of the shot?
I'm realling liking this show. My wife and I usually wait a season to see if a show is going to make it before getting into it, so I hope enough people are watching it that it doesn't get canceled.

"By the way, wouldn't it be hilarious if the Eraser's name turned out to be named Stu or Ralph or something?"
LMAO! Great show, great recap. And two Thom Yorke/Radiohead references in a row, loving it.
Comments:
1 - As mentioned previously Peter didn't take the money from Nathan.
2 - May1, the finished painting is actually on this page. It shows a cheerleader, presumably Claire, with the top of her head cut off. This would seem to indicate Sylar's involvement.
3 - It seems pretty safe to say that DL has the ability to phase through solid objects (e.g. walls, prison bars, handcuffs, etc.), sort of like a ghost.
4 - I think Niki's alter ego must have some form of advanced fighting skill and super strength to be able to perform the feats she does.
5 - Mohinder sucks! He really is the one glaring crapbag in an otherwise fantastic show. I wish he would return to India but that won't be the case, it's pretty clear he's meant to be an integral part of the show.
6 - The only thing that bothered me about the episode was Hiro's sudden ability to carry on a half-decent conversation in English. It wasn't just the words he could say but also the fact that he understood everything Nathan was telling him. That wasn't the case just a few days ago when he spoke to the cops in the future (at Isaac's apartment). I hate to nitpick on such a great show but that seemed inconsistent.
7 - I really like the "Save the cheerleader, save the world" tagline. It's kind of goofy and prophetic all rolled into one. It's rare when a show actually gets better with each episode, loving it.
Oh, the Peter/Pink hairdo caption was a stroke of genius.

Hiro does have super powers and maybe that is why he is learning English so quickly??
As far as Peter not keeping the powers after he "absorbs" them, well...maybe he will be able to keep the powers once he develops his skill better.
Maybe Sylar rips out the brains of his victims so HRG and Eraserman can't get at what is in there.
Too many theories and what ifs....need to keep watching

I'm wondering if the heroes have had their powers for a long time but the HRG has been erasing that part of their memories on a regular basis?
Maybe since DL has been in hiding, he has developed his powers better too. Maybe Silar is that way also.
Hiro's language skills are confusing. Sometimes he can speak the english and sometimes not. Has learned english in the future but HRG erased his memory?? Maybe that happened a few times explaining the different accents?
The comic book writing could be the same way. Hiro maybe took them to the future, but their memories were erased. Maybe the herion is like an antitode to what the Eraser does.

Ando gets on my nerves. I was getting a kind of Lex Luthor vibe from him. Right now he thinks it's all cool that Hiro has powers but I think in the future he might get a little bitter and want a piece of the action.
Seriously, WTF is Niki's power? It's killing me!
I can't wait for next week's episode with Micah telling DL that Niki has asecret too.

Future-Hiro said something about not being able to stay too long, or he'd "create a rift." I wonder what that means and how he discovered the danger. Also, why didn't he create a "rift" during his day-long first trip to the future? Also, Super-Hiro is clearly more than 5 weeks older than regular-time Hiro. Does this mean that, by definition, they succeed in saving NYC?
Peter seems to only be able to absorb a small amount of power--enough to not splatter on the ground, or to sketch a stick drawing. I don't think he'd be able to match Sylar one-on-one.
How did the FBI find out Sylar's name? How did they find him as a suspect, esp. if they have no idea about the superpowers?
Lastly, and this is total speculation but I keep thinking of it...I teach in a high school and a huge percentage of teenage girls hurt themselves to some extent, esp. if they feel isolated, pressured, family troubles, etc. I wonder if Claire found out she was unhurtable because she was suicidal. She had no close friends and a lot of lonliness & identity issues before the show's timeline even began. Plus, her "tests" were truly lethal--like she didn't even care if she found the limits of her healing power and really killed herself, just like that. On the other hand, she is also the most accident-prone girl imaginable (the neck-breaking tackle)--if she weren't super, I wonder if she'd've made it this far.
Her dad probably knew she was special if she healed fast as a kid. Maybe his "research" is partly just to help Claire?

oh JUnit you crack me up. They totally should have showed that video in 'sex ed'. Loved the now you see him now you don't. yeah, what was up w/ Hiro suddenly knowing enough English to talk to Nathan in the diner? That kinda came out of nowhere for me.
I didn't catch that Claire had her brain scooped out in the painting, just that there was a hell of a lot of blood. Way to notice!
Samynoodle: you're right!ha!

I am starting to think Nikki is like the hulk. Nikki 1.0 is a plain Jane. Nikki 2.0 is smarter, stronger, and sex kitten. Maybe as her powers develop, she will grow other personalities, each withe thier own abilities (Flight, X-ray Vision, Ice beams).
I am really loving the show, can't wait to see what happens next.

I'm beginning to think that Nikki's split personality is just incidental. She's got super strength and whatever else and that's just the way she's coped with it thus far.
And yes, the whole, I'm running for my life but I can't get over a fence, was the worst part of the episode!
And so Eraserman is not Sylar?
And what's up with the waffles?! Claire's mom last week needed to die with her incessant "WAFFLES!" and now Hiro was about to wet the seat over the waffles. heh

hi everyone, this is my first post.
just wanted to put a sort of theory i've been playing with...
perhaps sylar is future peter. maybe future peter has been able to hone his abilities enough that he can retain other people's powers, maybe even needing to take their lives in order to keep the power. peter is such a nice guy right now, even a bit of a push over. perhaps with his family's history of mental illness and his own realization of how powerful he is (i think he might have the best ability so far), he could go a little nutso, and cross over to the "dark side."
when future hiro told peter he didn't recognize him without his scar, perhaps it's a scar that future hiro gives to him with his bad ass sword. i would only assume that future hiro couldn't go back and kill past peter because they need him initially to save the cheerleader...
i don't know. it's just an idea i've been toying with.
