Claire is desperate, because she figures that her father must have left some information about her mother somewhere. Unfortunately, the search party is interrupted by Mr. Muggles, who starts barking because Mr. Bennett is back in the house. Normally, this is no big deal, but let's not forget that he just went to a lot of effort to make sure that Claire and Zach didn't remember their relationship. Seeing Zach in the house is quite upsetting, but Claire plays it off like they have a biology project. After telling Zach to go upstairs to her room, Claire acts like she was forced to be lab partners with him on this project about manatees.
HRG is a smart guy and I thought for sure that he would figure out that she was lying, but instead said that the two of them used to be friends, so maybe they could get along. When Claire gets up to her rooms, she decides to that she needs to talk to the Haitian again. He said that whenever it was an emergency, she can leave a signal, and her, ahem, (Port-au) Prince would come. Thinking that a Bat Signal with the map of Haiti was perhaps a little too overt, the Haitian told her to leave some chimes in her window.
Back in New York, Peter's brother Nathan is still looking for him. Having exhausted all his other possibilities and knowing how much Peter believes that his powers are for a greater purpose, Nathan decides to go back to the source of all this trouble and visits Mohinder. And who could have imagined that Mohinder is looking for Peter as well? Gee whiz, why don't we all get together and see if we can't get Timmy out of that well?
Nathan and Mohinder do eventually decide to go and look for Peter, which we all could see was going to happen, but at least we got a little bit more background information on this list that is supposed to be so important. Mohinder explains that his father found a genetic marker that all people with special abilities have. The list was made up of 36 people identified to have that marker.
Peter's DNA shows that his marker is sort of a blend, which enables him to mimic other abilities. Mohinder likens it more to a sponge than a chameleon, but the question Nathan wants to know is if Peter could hurt himself and Mohinder speculates that if he came in contact with a person with an unstable ability, it could be dangerous. At this point, Nathan is about to leave, but Mohinder says that his brother may be the most important hero because of his DNA. If they can find Peter, he might be able to help all of them.
Normally, this is a situation where Nathan would just work alone, but he has never wanted an ability. He still wants to save his brother because he cares about him, but if Mohinder were able to unlock some secrets and "cure" them of their abilities, he would be the first one to sign up.
So, where did Peter end up? Somehow, he was able to track the invisible guy back to his lair. For some reason, Claude has decided that of all the places he could hang out, he would choose and abandoned building. This just makes no sense. This guy should try sleeping somewhere else, like perhaps Brooks Brothers. That way, he could walk out with a new suit every morning! And it's not just an abandoned building. The building just happens to be owned by the late Charles Devoe, Simone's father, who Peter used to care for. It's all just a little too coincidental, and Peter once again makes a please for Claude to help him control his abilities, or New York is going to regret it. Once again, Claude is uninterested and decides to leave.

Ok, I have two theories about Mr. Bennet (which is pretty much the only storyline I care about right now, in addition to Hiro):
1. He actually IS Claire's dad, and
2. He has some crazy, insane, where-did-that-come-from power, which has up to this point been withheld from the viewers, and that this power will enable him to survive the brawl with Sylar.

thanks for the recap JoJo.
Mohinder's opening diatribe reminds me of those "daily sayings" that are supposed to make you think deep thoughts and reflect on your life. Bleech. Just get on with the good stuff.
As soon as the idiot doctor began unstrapping Sylar you KNEW he was a goner. Idiot. Have you never watched any horror movie - they ALL come back from the dead!
Still bored with Niki/Jessica/DL but at least ATM Boy juiced up the family's plot line.
So is Mrs. Matt carrying a little Matt or a little Matt's Police Partner?
Sulu as Hiro's Poppa should make for some great dialogue.
I think Eraser shows up and saves HRG from Sylar. I like Eraser.

I wouldn't be surprised if HRG was Claire's real father or that he had some kind of power. I mean Eraser shouldn't be scared of HRG since he can always erase HRG's memory of anything he does but Eraser is scared.
HoneyBunny, I wondered the same thing about the baby. Mrs Matt better not think of that possibility around Matt! And I thought the same thing about the doctor and Sylar. I mean, come on, he's a guy with special powers! Only way I'd be sure Sylar was dead is if he were fed through a wood chipper.
As soon as I heard Hiro & Ando's kidnapper speak Japanese I figured he was from Hiro's dad. I'd seen Sulu's name in the beginning credits and already knew he was playing Hiro's papa-san so it just made sense.
Boy, do I like this show- thanks for the recap, J-Unit.

I think that HRG has the power of nullification--a sort of anti-Peter. It seems that all heroes basically have one innate power, so the Eraser, I think, just erases memories. HRG is the one whose presence nullifies powers for interrogation. He's smart, though, so he LETS people (like Matt) think it's all the Eraser so that he'll always have an ace up his sleeve should a disgruntled hero try to get him alone without the Eraser in order to attack him magically. That's why the Eraser and Eden were scared of HRG--their otherwise extremely manipulative powers were useless on him. I also think that's how he'll ultimately evade Sylar in the cell. It also explains why Peter went into overload after HRG spoke with him--HRG's power turned Peter's empathy against imself, sendign him into shock. Lastly, I can totally see HRG being Claire's real dad; for one thing, Meredith looks alot like Mrs. HRG and men often go for a type. And HRG, regardless of his twisted ethics, truly loves Claire and wants to portect her, more so than Lyle, who is definately his kid, so I think he sees Claire as his true genetic heir to his superpower or something.

missjeanbrodie: Myself and a bunch of fellow Hero addict friends had a big talk about HGR's power and thought he might have the Null power, but we know he doesn't for one reason. When Nathan was in the dessert in Las Vegas both HGR and the Haitian cornered him against a fence, but he jumped up and flew away to escape. Now, if either of them has a Null power, Nathan wouldn't have been able to fly away.
On another note, I'm betting Mr. Linderman is Claire's father, and they will reveal Linderman and bring him into the story as Claire's biological father. Making HGR her bio father would be a cop out, in my opinion at least. I'm 95% sure he has a power himself, but I don't think he'll be revealed as Claire's bio-father either. My other guess would be Nathan Petrelli because of his sleazy politician cheating ways.
Cheers!

Man, but I love this show. Spine-tingling entertainment at its best. Great recap as always, J-Unit! One thing I need to mention - what was up with that HELlo hot pink (as in color, not as in hawt and pink) shirt Mohinder was rockin' when Nathan Petrelli came to see him? It was so distracting, I couldn't really focus on what was going on. I'm just sayin'.
Also, maybe I missed something, but I still don't get how everyone (read: Matt) knows that The Eraser is Haitian. Hasn't he spoken only to Claire so far? Back when he was dealing with Matt, he was in silent mode, so wouldn't he be just a 'generic' black dude to Matt? I don't get how he pinpointed his origin. Not that it's important to the plot, but still...

Oh I just can't wait for the next episode!
This is by far the best show on tv right now. Lost really needs to take a few pointers and learn that they can still reveal stuff without losing viewers.
Anywho! I was thinking that HRG was Claire's real father as well. Then I started thinking no.. it's probably not b/c that might be too obvious.
I'm thinking that her real father might be the Invisible Man guy.
Maybe that's why he looks like a "bum" b/c he gave up after he thought his wife? and child were blown up.
Sooo.. is Hiro's father yakuza or something? I mean those guys that abducted them were pretty shady... and were carrying weapons... *shrugs*

Soultrance: Great point! Argh--now I am anxious about HRG and Sylar. I was resting easy because I thought he was going to get out! On the other hand, if HRG has a power, Sylar can probably sense it, so maybe we'll finally find out what it is. :-)
What a great show!

Man! Didn't these people ever watch an episode of "Buffy?" The only way you can kill someone like Sylar is to cut off his head and separate the two parts. Come on guys, get with it!

Well they didn't reveal why sylar regained his power/strength but if it is the cockroach theory, then as Stephen Colbert says: "I Called it!"
I thought of the "cockroach powers" and posted my comments in the last recap
Here
I loved this episode, and I too was waiting for HRG to breakup the Eraser/Claire meeting. I wonder if Matt's baby is going to have powers too or end up being lame like his mom. For some reason I think that Ando will become a much larger role or get killed off. They seem to always make a point of how Ando has no powers and is useless compared to Hiro, so I think the producers will do something with him. Maybe he will be their coordinator or something important, he can't stay a sidekick forever. Maybe he dies and that's why Hiro is all badass in the future.

ceenee, the first thing that came to my mind when I saw that thing in Sylar's head was one of those turkey timer thingys that pop up when the bird's done. Maybe they were trying to cook Sylar's brain.

silentfire - Your comment from the last recap seems to be dead on... I usually don't post comments, but the roach theory is bugging me out! Mostly because I didn't think of it first! It's a perfectly great explanation for why the producers contstantly showed the creepy crawler next to the power sucking creep.
Anyway, J-Unit, great recap; I read your postings religiously, but I have one request... Can you warn us when you are gonna be delayed on a recap? Like send out a memo telling us that you're getting your tooth pulled or having a collonic? This way we know you haven't abandoned us... I've been hitting my veins for a "Heroes" fix, but you were no where to be found. Not complaining, just reminding you that "with great power comes responsibility"....

Things are getting really interesting. It looks like episode 15 "Run" will see the addition of yet ANOTHER new Heroes character, Zane Taylor and best of all, he's Sylars buddy - to some degree.
Things could be getting very interesting over the next few episodes.

well, everyone's heard that Eric Roberts got cast right? I'm betting he's Claire's dad for sure, especially since in the previews I could swear that hand belongs to him *when the mom is talking to the dad*. I think eventually he will turn out to be Linderman as well, although I'm not sure they'll give that away so soon. To EmmaV: the writers want us to call The Haitian The Haitain, hence Matt doing the same! Also, does anyone else but me think that Sylar kind of looks like a cockroach?

"what is that thingy on Sylar's head? I couldn't figure it out the other night either."
I think it is an IV-like thing, so that they can pump the drugs directly into his brain. I don't know the medical term for it, but it's like when you have an IV and they leave one part in your arm so that if you need fluids they just pop the tube right in--this would be the brain equivalent to that.

Does anybody remember the first episode, when they showed Mohinder lecturing at the college in India? He was talking about how cockroaches are actually the highest form of evolution. They can survive radiation and live for a month without food, etc.
I thought they kept showing Sylar with the cockroaches because they were trying to show a parallel between the two creatures.

Howdy all - just wanted to weigh in:
- First off, "...her [Port Au] prince"? That was wonderful/awful! So bad it's good!
- I think that Claire's dad is Nathan - he would have been 21? 22? years old at the time [what is he now, 38? 40?]- he's old enough and I think the arm looks like him [from his shirtless scene]
- missjeanbrodie - I agree that he has the power of nullification, and Soultrain, I think he has to exert it consciously, like DL and Hiro have to. HRG was taken by surprise when Nathan flew away.
- I know this is a minor point, but I hope they explain at some point why DL doesn't leave his clothes behind when he goes through a wall and how Claude's/Peter's clothes become invisible with them

emmaV: Right after we meet the Theodore Sprague, the radiation guy, he tells Matt and his FBI partner that he used to work with a Haitian man or something and that the same guy abducted him later on. I don't remember the story much at all, but we know that The Eraser is Haitian through him.

Ew--if Nathan is Claire's dad, than the definate chemistry between Peter and Claire isn't just cradlerobbing, it's also incest! Why do I keep hoping they'll get together? Must be the princess/rescuer thing.
JBJS--great recall. I agree.
And thanks, Lestat, for recuing my theory--now I can stop worrying about HRG for the weekend! He's way too good a character to kill off now. I do hope Sylar sniffs out his talent, though.
I actually look forward to Mondays now!

Claire's Mom's Babie's Daddy Theory:
15 or so years ago HRG stumbles Claire' Mom and Claude Raines, eventually she becomes preggers. HRG relizes the potential of their offspring. He hatches an evil plan in which Claire's mom believes she caused the fire which killed her husband and young child and of course, Claude Raines believes it was his fault, leading to his life of pidgeon taming. HRG meanwhile scoops up young Claire back to his paper factory. Kinda like Mr.Synister with Cyclops and Jean Grey.
Of course this sets up the whole "Claude redeems himself" scenario and explains his familiarity with others with ability.
maybe?

Matt calls "The Haitian", that because when he interviewed "Radio-Active Man", RAM told Matt that he too saw the silent black man when he was in Haiti.....he was the Haitian student when RAM lost some time in Haiti. 'Member?

Lestat--
Maybe they'll explain the clothes thing on the show at some point, although it's probably not a major priority! If you're interested, they usually explain in the comics that it's as if the hero casts a little tiny forcefield around his body; so it's not necessarily DL that is phasing, but everything in the forcefield, which would include DL and his clothes too (I think that's the reason why Superman's suit always stays so clean!). I don't think that explains why he doesn't just sink through the floor all the time though...

I'm pretty sure that Linderman isn't Claire's father. They recently cast Malcolm McDowell as Linderman and the next episode was probably filmed before he was cast.
I really need to stop going to spoiler sites. The whole George Takei as Hiro's father thing was disclosed weeks ago and it spoiled all the tension in this episode for me because I knew who the "Boss" was they were taking Hiro to.
Soultrance, you made a great point about HRG's power. I've always assumed that he could somehow block powers too, but you're right. Nathan wouldn't have been able to fly away. Hmmm, it'll be interesting to see how he gets away from Sylar then!

SPOILERS IN THIS POST... or at least some semi-spoilers. Skip this post if you're not into previews.
From some of the previews I've watched up here in Canada (where I get both NBC previews and previews from the Canadian network that carries it), I've learned the following, although some of this might already be known to you guys:
-Claire's dad's voice is heard in the preview, but he is not shown. He is talking on the phone with Claire's mom and sounded quite evil. He is definitely not Nathan Petrelli. Whoever it was certainly has bad intentions judging by the tone of the voice. Claire's mom may also be in on this.
-I forget where I saw this, but somewhere on the internet, there is a 2 minute clip from the next episode, which features a new woman with the ability to access the internet with her mind. She meets up with Nuclear Man in the shack in the Nevada desert. She also seems to have evil intentions and gives Nuke Boy some top secret government information that she presumably hacked with her ability.
-Sylar escapes, locks HRG in his own cell (and from I've seen, he looks like he wasn't hurt that badly at all, so he must have some ability we don't know about), and goes to visit HRG's family. When you see him in the preview, he is acting friendly (pretending to be some sort of new neighbor perhaps) and talking to Claire's stepmom, maybe in an attempt to win their trust and track down Claire with HRG temporarily out of the picture.

Thanks for the shout out, J-Unit! It's a week later, but I'm still wondering if they'll explain how Sylar was able to stay alive. I guess we can chalk it up to superhuman evilness, if nothing else.
