What is it they say? Better late than never.
With apologies (and a promise to put up some pics just as soon as I can), this week's Heroes recap is finally here, late and short.
Sometimes real life gets in the way of tv watching and recapping. Sorry 'bout that.
And away we go...
This week opens with Hiro and Ando returning to the "present" with a copy of Isaac's comic book. They figure it can guide them to what they need to do to stop Sylar, but without the words in the speech balloons, it's going to be difficult to determine Isaac's vision. Too bad they don't know that the real danger to New York isn't Sylar, but Peter Petrelli.
Speaking of Petrelli the Younger, he and Claire have a heart to heart about her leaving for Paris. She just wants to let Nathan and Mamma Petrelli protect her, but Peter is convinced that Claire is a pivotal component in the race to save the world. He tells her that it's him that explodes and destroys New York in a nuclear type event. She immediately makes the connection to Ted, the guy that burnt down her house.
Ted is busy warming up the car while Matt Parkman and Claire's Father, Bennet discuss The Company's new tracking technology, "The Walker System", that can track anyone, anywhere. Bennet convinces Parkman that their first priority is to "wipe out" this tracking system. Of course, they don't know that "The Walker System" is actually a little girl, Molly Walker, who was once on Sylar's hit list, but managed to evade him by hiding in a closet. Isn't it funny that one of Parkman's first "hits" was finding a little girl who turns out to have the power to locate people?
Coincidence, good writing or excellent planning on the part of the writers?
Speaking of Sylar, he's using his newly acquired powers of prescient painting to take a peek into his future. What he sees doesn't make him very happy. Obviously the paintings that come from Isaac's power don't come with crib notes. From the painting he's created, Sylar infers that he is going to take Ted's power and then cause the disaster that Isaac painted on the floor of his studio. Surprisingly, Sylar's next move is to call Suresh and try to enlist his help in preventing the explosion, but when hyper hearing detects Mohinder dialing 9-1-1, he decides that asking for Suresh's help was a mistake.
Jessica and D.L. are arguing about what happened to Micah. D.L. decides that he'll get his son back on his own, regardless of the consequences.
Micah is being babysat by Candice, but she's doing it in the guise of Nikki. Not realizing that Micah has a lot of experience in figuring out just who his Mom is at any given moment, she is unaware that the little boy sees right through her illusion.
Thompson and Mohinder meet, apparently right below the rooms where Micah is being held. Thompson wants Suresh's help with Molly Walker. She has a virus that is stopping her from accessing her powers and it turns out that Mohinder's late sister Chanti holds the key to a cure. While Suresh is angered by Thompson's manipulations, when he learns that little Molly may hold the key to stopping Sylar, he has little choice but to agree to help.
So, will Molly's "Find a person" power be the key OR will that nifty virus she's managed to contract (No doubt with The Company's help) be the weapon that puts a stop to his rampage.
As Sylar freshens up for his Mother's Day visit, Hiro and Ando show up at Isaac's studio. When they realize that they aren't alone, they hide behind one of the large canvasses. Of course, Sylar can hear hearts beating, so he knows that they're there. Fortunately, Hiro seems to have grasped better control of his powers and is able to teleport both he and Ando before Sylar finds them.
D.L. phases himself and Jessica into Linderman's art restoration room. Jessica didn't seem to enjoy the ride.
"Do that again and I'll kill you."
"You're lucky I didn't leave your ass stuck in the wall, after what you did."
In the room they find a picture of Micah, surrounded by flames, and by the style it's a Mendez. They also find that Linderman has tracked their entire lives, possibly even to the point of manipulating the two of them into a relationship.

Hmmm, too short, no jokes and no pics?
Anyway, about the show, one of my theories:
Does Sylar's mother have the power of suggestion? (as opposed to Eden's power of Persuasion.)
ie. 'You could be president' which didn't occur to him until after he killed her. And Sylar's insistence that she say that just being a watchmaker 'is enough'. Perhaps its not passive agression that's making him act out?

A little disappointed by the recap, but I understand that life doesn't let you know ahead of time so you can plan around it.
This was one of my favorite episodes all season, honestly. Actually, I liked it a lot better than last week's, which I thought was a little... I dunno. Not quite gimmicky, but if that doesn't happen, then it was pointless.
One of the more amusing parts of this episode for me was when Peter and Claire are telling Nathan about Ted, Peter mentions that Nathan can fly. Claire: "You can fly!?" Nathan (blase): "yes". Claire (to herself): "That's cool." Since she found out about her adoption when she was relatively young, it wouldn't be suprising if she had wondered if he was a superhero or something. It just keeps her age in perspective I guess.

Overall, it wasn't that great of an episode, and the recap wasn't great either, but I loved the bridge club part n_n

Since Peter controls his powers through remembering the people who gave him the powers, he just needs the Haitian to show up and erase Sprague's memory.

Although I wasn't as excited about this episode as I have been about the previous 2 or 3, I can see that they are setting up some things for some major excitement as the season finale nears. Dramas like this need a kinda-slow episode like this occasionally before they get the momentum really going.
On a completely different note, it took me a while, but about halfway through watching the episode, I finally figured out where I'd seen Sylar's mommy before. It's Ellen Greene, who played Audrey in "Little Shop of Horrors" on Broadway and then in the movie with Steve Martin and Rick Moranis in the mid-80s. And I mention this just in case anyone else is as much of a theater/movie geek as I am. :-)

Sylar's mother said "You're one of THEM" at some point during his visit. So, I don't think she has any special powers, per se. But maybe his father did.

His father may have had powers, but I'm pretty sure he stole all his own powers because he likes to figure out how things work--hence being a watch maker who was never special enough.

Love the short length, but unimpressed with the recap. I miss B-Side.

I'm totally a Broadway geek but I couldn't place Sylar's mom. It was driving me crazy. Good to see she's still working. I agree this was kind of a slow episode but it's true that you always have to have an emotional dip before something big happens on a show (anybody remember the "Smile Time" puppet episode of Angel before Fred died the next week?). We-e-e-ell played Heroes. Well played.

JayhawkAnne--"SUDDENLEEEE SEEEE-MOOOORE..." :o)
Greybish--Loved the recap--maybe because I got it read late. Keep up the good work. I,too, loved the bridgeclub references, Jeopardy salute and your love for the show.
p.s.--I adore Hiro's reference to the Bushido Code.

I still can't believe the Peter would forget that he absorbs powers,,, He suddenly needs to find Ted because it means he might not be the cause of the explosion after all...WTF?!?
Surely Hiro, or at least Future Hiro could just go to the past and kill Sylar as an infant, as well as Ted and/or Peter...but wait, that would leave the show approximately 5 minutes or so left...
