heroes12-4-06I don't hate Mondays as much as other people, and with the advent of 24, I could say that Mondays were one of my favorite days of the year. And then came Heroes, which actually has me wishing that the weekend is over sooner, even if my hangover is telling me that I really need a three day weekend. Heroes has science fiction without getting too geeky. It has drama without becoming too much of a soap opera. It has enough blood and gore to make you say "ewwwww", but not so much that you can't wait for more each week. It has great suspense and some of the best characters on television. And somehow, I am going to need to figure out how to live without it for another six weeks because the fall finale was on last night and it was so good that I wanted to have cuddle time with my flat screen to thank it for taking such good care of me.

One bad thing about last night - the fucking narrator was back! But is there really anything more that I can say? I don't want to waste any more time dealing with him, so I am just going to get on with the show.

We start this week with the girl that has been causing so much of the commotion this year: Claire Bennet. Her father, the esteemed Horn Rimmed Glasses, or HRG, is kind of silent, and Claire is wondering if it is because what she told him. This is exactly the sort of scenario that Claire feared for the last couple of weeks as she began to learn about her new powers; everybody she loved would treat her like a freak.

Oddly enough, the reality might be even worse. Claire's dad tells her that he has known all along about her and what she can do. She knew before she knew, and she knew even before she and Zach made the tapes. He says he didn't want to tell her because he was trying to protect her and that he has done a lot of things he is not proud of to protect her.

There might have been a couple of seconds there when Claire felt a little relief, but for the most part, she couldn't believe that her father had lied to her and let her feel so alone and like a freak. It's about this time when she realizes that Sylar's attack was not so random and that Jackie died because Sylar thought she was her.

HRG tries to assure Claire that everything will be fine because not even her mother or brother know, which is when Claire confesses that her brother Kyle does now, and so does Zach, her friend that took all of the videos. Mr. Bennet tells Claire to destroy the tapes, and he'll pick Kyle up from soccer practice and talk to him.

When I mentioned the police investigation after what happened at the high school, I wondered how Peter would get out of it. As the forums and the comments quickly reminded me, news of the murder would probably filter down to the FBI where our good friends Special Agent Audrey Hanson and Officer Matt Parkman would be working on the case. News must travel fast because they were in Odessa in less time than it takes Fritz Coleman to get to a tree lighting ceremony in Tustin.

Matt and Audrey are looking over the crime scene and although the locals have picked up a hospice nurse from out of town (that would be Peter Petrelli if you are new to the series), Audrey doesn't think that guy is Sylar. Matt must not travel well because he was popping lots of pills, saying that he was getting headaches. I am surprised that Matt, having lived in LA for so long, hasn't figured out that you should cite dehydration or exhaustion in case of any sudden, embarrassing collapses. Headaches should only be used as excuse when people start questioning your other excuses. On the list of famous celebrity excuses, it follows somewhere after "emergency c-section" and "scrotoplasty".
