There's a good reason that this week's Heroes recap is a little late.
Time travel gives me a headache.
After watching this week's episode of Heroes twice with a Tylenol chaser, I actually think I have a handle on the timelines. I think.
One thing about the future, you need a program to tell who's on what team. Either that, or a razor.
A razor?
Trust me.
If they are typing phonetically, then my ignorant moderately racist english to japanese translation classes tells me that Hiro really tells Hiro
that its "on the day after the erection"
This week picks up right where we left off at the end of the last episode, with the "You," "Me?" exchange between Hiros.
It's five years in the future, New York has been half destroyed by Sylar and ever since, Future Hiro and his soul patch have been trying to sort out the timelines to figure out what mistakes led to the disaster. The strings all over the studio are the timelines of various people, a sort of three dimensional model to help him keep it all straight. Hiro relates that Future Hiro's message to Peter Petrelli allowed him to save Claire and keep Sylar from stealing her regenerative powers. Apparently, Future Hiro even went so far as to stab Sylar but he regenerated.
(*Theory Sidenote. It's only a theory, but I've got a hunch about this one. Oddly, this theory is one of the few things this week that DIDN'T give me a time travel headache. We'll come back to it at the end of the recap.*)
As he explains all this, Homeland Security, led by none other than Matt Parkman, burst in and take Hiro while Ando and Future Hiro escape.
"Godzirra!"
sorry too tempting
Future Hiro has lost the happy-go-lucky attitude that we've come to know and love in Present Hiro. Apparently, after the explosion, the world and he got a lot darker. The event turned the government against those with special abilities and Hiro into a terrorist, fighting against the oppression any way he can. In this case, the only fight worth fighting is in the past and for that, they need to get Hiro back, and since the Haitian can somehow block Future Hiro (and any other special person's) power, they need Peter Petrelli's help.
The two men teleport to Las Vegas to find Peter, seeking out his girlfriend who turns out to be none other than darling Nikki, but she won't give him up. The best she's willing to offer is information that Bennet is still somewhere in Texas "rustling cattle". Peter watched the meeting from his bar stool, but since he was invisible, neither Ando nor Future Hiro saw him or his funky new scar tissue and stubble.
In the old days a cool scar was down the cheekbone with a little blood trickling,
but this... this is a whole new level of cool scar.
(Confused recapper side note: How does Peter, who we know has the ability to mimic Claire's power, have a scar? This one's a headscratcher no matter how you "slice" it, unless, he got the scar while in the clutches of the Haitian. Perhaps Peter was one of those "Prison breaks" of Future Hiro's that Parkman mentioned.*)
Parkman has Hiro and with the Haitian nearby, his powers are nullified. Parkman knows all about him, but he doesn't realize that he has a Hiro who is five years, a square inch of facial hair and a murder free conscience younger than the man he's really after. Hiro knows nothing about the terrorist activities of his future self, and Parkman can't figure out why not. He calls the President, Nathan Petrelli and gives him the news. President Petrelli is less than pleased that such a fortuitous event should happen on the very day of the five year anniversary of the explosion in New York. He instructs Parkman to get the information on what he's sure is a plan that the terrorists are hatching, by any means necessary.
Petrelli hangs up with Parkman and summons Suresh and his stubble to the Oval Office.
The President wants Suresh to go to New York and help with the Nakamura situation, but he also has larger issues on his mind.
"Five years ago, you and I allowed a man to blow up in New York."
"...allowed a man to blow up in New York." Strange choice of words, don't you think?

Am I the only one that thinks Sylar's version of the President painting looks like Quentin Tarantino??

I think the reason Scarface has the scar is because he never saved Claire. I think the timeline has been changed since FutureHiro went back to tell Glasses Hiro. Future Hiro is changing the alternate timeline one event at a time to save that future. So when Future Hiro did the save the cheerleader crap Sylar never obtained his regenerative abilty in the alternate timeline since he never killed Claire.
But it seems that Sykar can withstand in an inordinate amount of punishment anyway (save a chalkboard to the domepiece). It would be nice if tehy explained that.

Yeah, very confusing episode. If this was an episode of Lost people would complain that it was meaningless filler ;p

I loved this episode but I realize I am easily entertained. :) Nathan was acting very out of character, so him turning into Sylar wasn't shocking. I do like the twist that Future Hiro was able to leverage what he wanted from HRG b/c he had changed the past. Although, I did wonder if DL was dead or not - the time travel thing was a bit convoluted but a very interesting concept and reaffirmed my thinking that all this will come down to Peter and Sylar having an OK-Corral type of showdown; no one else (so far) can do what they can do, although I'd much prefer Peter to absorb my power instead of Sylar eating my brain to get it. (If that's what he does.)
Nice recap, GB!! Hand over the Tylenol.

Sorry but I didn't like your recap. You usually do some good recaps but you just seemed off this time.
I expected better since this episode was awesome.

Greybishop...You blew my mind with that last sidenote. THAT makes a lot of sense and wouldn't be surprised if that came true. Heroes RULE!

It’s hard to be sarcastic about an episode that kicked so much ass, but I’d say you succeeded. Air Force None. Heh.
I love how they make sure we know it’s set in the future – because everyone either has facial hair or longer hair or both. I expected The Haitian to have an Afro, but alas, he looked the same.
I wish we could have had more of Future Hiro and Peter kicking ass (or at least the screencap of The Three Hirsute Amigos facing off against the guards). Fighting is 100% cooler in a Matrix trench coat. And everyone looks good in one.

I think HRG killed Hana. I think Hana was the leak that told Homeland Security about DL and Candice (thus letting Sylar get them) and HRG figured it out, so he killed her before she could give up Claire.

it reminded e of the "days of future past" storyline from marvel...but either way this episode was sooo good....peter is the breakout hero of the year....the scar, the slickback, and the black cloak definitely works for him

Last night I was watching the previews for next week's episode of Lost in slow motion (yeah, I'm a dork). It looks like it's going to be about the origins of the Dharma project. I'm pretty sure that they showed the guy who plays Linderman as someone connected with Dharma. But they're on separate networks, so I could be wrong. Did anybody else see this?

Excellent episode. Future Peter is so much more awesome than present day Peter. Thanks for another great recap GB!

Question: why doesn't future Sylar just kill the Haitian and take his power of being able to block all other powers? That would totally set him up to rule the world.

missjeanbrodie - Hana was with HRG in Texas when he was giving the blood out, so he didn't kill her... unless you mean he killed her during this episode at some point, off-screen. Too many timelines to deal with, I can't even keep track of what happened within the episode itself!
I loved this episode - sure it was confusing and didn't do too much for plot development (besides giving Hiro a new sense of purpose), but it was really fun to watch.

Mushy (post 4), DL has got to be dead. Sylar can now phase through walls.
Good ep, good recap.

Dave J. (13): I doubt that, without any powers, that Sylar (kind of a wimp without all that super stuff) would be able to take on the Haitian. In that fight, Sylar wouldn't be able to use his cut-head-open power because the Haitian would block it. But if he somehow did gain the Haitian's power, it wouldn't have the same effect as having no more "mutants," as the Haitian's power only works if he is a certain distance away from someone.
Man, I really wish they would give the Haitian a name. I hate just calling him that.
Did it strike anyone else as strange that, after Future Hiro got back to the future (after telling Peter to save Claire), he didn't notice ANY changes or even go to see if Claire was alive? And how do these people not know that Candice and D.L. are dead? Super Friends, they are not, apparantly.
