Newsgasm: Messiah Complex Edition -
by m_ruv

- Great, so now Mel Gibson is doing a movie about the Holocaust. To cap off his let's-offend-everyone trilogy, for 2007 he's planning an all-transvestite musical adaptation of the Koran. [Variety]
- Julia DeMato, a finalist on season two of American Idol, was arrested in Connecticut for the much-coveted hat trick of marijuana possession, cocaine possession, and DUI. According to DeMato it was "just a misunderstanding." Phew, I was worried there for a second that she might have a SEVERE DRUG PROBLEM. [E! online]
- And two more designers are suing the producers of Project Runway claiming that the show was originally their idea. Just a matter of time before Catherine Zeta-Jones makes this a class-action thing, cause hell it's been like three weeks since her last lawsuit. [Reality Blurred]

What, is it like Steven Spielberg owns the Holocaust or something?
I think you might be surprised. Pleasantly.

This is the second or third newsbit I've read about Mel Gibson doing a movie about the Holocaust and in each one, there were biting comments towards him about it. I don't understand what the big deal is about him and making the movie, "Passion of the Christ". There was all this talk when that movie was released about him being crazy and whatnot and I see that it continues on today. I doubt very seriously if there was this much hubbub towards the guy that made any of the other numerous movies that depicted the last days of Christ (well except for the Last Temptation of Christ). I guess it is true that people are gonna be persecuted...

Julia DeMato was on AI? I thought she was the star of Joey and The Sopranos. Damn that girls career is really expansive.

I thought that was a picture of Saddam.
I actually didn’t think Passion was anti-Semitic at all, just a bit overdone with the gore. I mean what does 5 close-ups of a gushing chest wound do that can't be achieved with just one? No, the problem with him as his statements in interviews about his undeniably insane anti-Semitic nutbag of a father. Still, I think ultimately he got a raw deal out of the thing.
Actually, he made enough money of that movie to buy a small island, so maybe it all came out even in the end.

Michelle, point taken, but have you ever seen Mel Gibson in an interview? "Unhinged" is putting it kindly.

Everytime I see that pic of Mel it get flashbacks of that disgusting photo of that middle-eastern guy sticking his finger up thru his nose coming out of his eye. (sorry)

Not only was Passion anti-Semitic (in my opinion), but Mel's father is a leading Holocaust denier, and Mel, despite many opportunities, has never disavowed his father's bizarre and vicious views.

BigMax, you kind of pre-emptively took the piss out of my "Uh oh, I hope he doesn't tell his dad" joke, but that's okay.

I thought I was the only one who even watched Project Runway. Go figure.

EdHill, you are correct sir. That is Saddam. Witness the evidence of the entire picture. http://www.brutallyhonest.org/photos/saddam_husseins_demise/saddamshirt3.jpg

Mel Gibson may be a closet Neo-Nazi, but he still has the right to produce his own films that spread his messages. He has every-bit-as-much right as Michael Moore (whom I am a fan of, BTW), Steven Spielberg, or anybody else whose "agenda" (""=Dane Cook: Rock'n Roll quotes) is wrapped up in their "art". I disagree with his ideas, and I refuse to participate and/or contribute, but he shouldn't be lambasted because his ideas are different than mine.
That said, I asked a co-worker if his picture of Saddam was from a porn site (Get it?...for Saddam supporters. You see, that was the joke was that Larry was a Saddam supporter.) and he turned around and said, "No, it's Mel Gibson."
Yes, he is a nutcase.

jenny10girl, PRoject Runway kicks royal reality ass. I loved it, but not as much as sg-dub who will be doing the recaps. It is the best reality show in years. seriously.
mel Gibson is nutty, tis true. And the worst was his refusing to condemn his fathers statements. BUt I actually liked Passion. The violence was over the top but I didnt think it was that anti semitic. There were some moments where the "evil" people who killed and booed christ looked a little too jewish, as opposed to sparkling white Jim Caviezl, but that was about it.
I want them to do a christ movie with an accurate christ. You know, a dark skinned middle eastern guy instead of another super white dude.
I think last temptation was a better movie. More ballsy and challenging.

Nick -- Sorry!!!
Hate to ruin a joke.
Comment from the person whose life-story this is..."I know his father doesn't believe in the Holocaust - but maybe when there's money involved, maybe they don't care," she added. "His father will probably say this is not real, this is a novel."

Personally, I love how crazy celebrities are acting these days. A few years ago, and we would never hear from whackjobs like this in public. Maybe people will now stop worshipping them like they are gods.
Now excuse me while I write another post about Tyra Banks.

Saddam's actually all shaved and in a suit nowadays. What's it say when the former Sexiest Man Alive now looks like and is less well-groomed than the Butcher of Baghdad? The first time I saw that pic of Mel, I thought it was Saddam too. I'm all about South Park's take on both of them, I guess.

I'm with EdHill. (He keeps trying to tell everyone I'm not...) Can we get a semitic Jesus up in this bitch? At any rate the Gibson movie sound like a love story. And I like my love wrapped up in lots of mindless death and hate, so I'm looking forward to it.
