In response to discovering that Guylan is running, Mike says one of the funniest (non-Jared) things I've heard on this show. "Guyan is running against me. Guylan; who on the first day here, addressed me as sir. It's stupid." Mike, you got me laughing on that one, but it's not stupid. It's ironic. Not to mention just plain terrific. Guylan gives a speech to the Pioneers and promises more of a democracy than a dictatorship. Sounds good to me. Vote Guylan. Give that he-she the trophy. I'm just kidding. He's totally a girl.

Olivia is ready for her speech. She reminds the Pioneers that it's not a popularity contest. Which is basically the equivilent of her admitting that no one likes her. At the very least we can give credit to Olivia for knowing how to work her appropriate angle. She reminds the Pioneers that they should vote for who they think will make the best leader, not who they like the most. Good point. If you want to vote for someone you like, vote for Anjay. Otherwise vote for Olivia. Great speech Olivia. Really quacktacular.

Anjay must defend his place as councilman and in his speech admits that he's made a couple mistakes in the past, but will work harder starting now. That speech sucks Anjay. I'd say you have something to worry about here, if it weren't for the fact that you're running against an unpopular duck. You're basically battling the villian from Ducktales, Scrooge McDuck. It's a default win really. (ok fine, two cartoon comparisons per episode).

I'm on the edge of my seat just waiting to hear what Taylor will come up with for her speech. Interestingly enough, Taylor gives what can only be desribed as something along the lines of a "I'm trying to get the ex back after I cheated, and now I realize how dumb I was, please give me another chance" kind of speech. Much like when faced with the cheating ex, we know the speech will never work. But we still love to hear the begging. Nice try Taylor.

Zack's speech is actually quite good, but I'm annoyed by it. It's too good. It's too speechy. It's almost condescending. "Girls and boys, I'm sure we've all heard the phrase deal with it. I'm tired of it...I'm about doing, not saying. Don't tell me that you're gonna vote for me, tell me you agree with me. That's all I ask of you ladies and gentlemen." Yeah yeah, you're speech is good. Go away now.

Hold everything, it's the showdown! There are pinatas hanging and some of the pinatas have a card of a president inside. Each Pioneer has a chance to go knock down one pinata. They need to find 7 president cards and bring them to their council leader who has to put the 7 presidents in historical order. After they think the order is correct they run to a barrel and hit a bell that's attached to it. This is the part where I feel like an idiot about just how little I know about our presidential history.

Speaking of presidents and idiots, it's time for the quote of the week. Unfortunately Jared didn't speak this episode, so we'll need a Jared stand in. I don't know this week's winner's name so, why be complicated about it. Let's call her Jared's Stand-in. Jared's Stand-in's quote:

"You don't have to be smart to be president. George Bush is really stupid and he got elected twice."

And to formally respond to my friend who left me a voicemail during the show, despite the fact that I expressly banned calling me during Kid Nation: to answer your question- no, that does not qualify as treason.

Laurel sort of narrates the showdown for us, which is fun, because we while she does so, we get to play a little editing game I like to call "Laurel and the disappearing herpe." One minute it's there, the next minute it's not. It's so fun I even had my three year old nephew playing. First I explained the game, and then every time Laurel would come on screen, he'd yell either "Herpe!" or "No herpe!" And then we'd both laugh. His mother would probably killl me if she knew I'd introduced the word "herpe" into my nephew's vocabularly, but Gasmi, isn't it such fun nonetheless!?

The showdown comes down to the wire; green against yellow. Laurel and Taylor are in a footrace to the buzzer, and was that a little shove I just saw Laurel? Laurel, I'm shocked. Borderline cheating? How very New England Patrioty of you. If it weren't Taylor on the receiving end of the shove I'd take issue with it. But it's Taylor. So, as you were...

Excellent recap Dr!! I too was afraid to call Olivia a bitch bc she is a child...the duck approach was much better! :) I demand that next week be an entire hour of our Jared!!

Farrell100:

Re: Laurel quasi-cheating to beat Taylor..."Very New England Patrioty"...GOOD ONE!!.

I'm happy for Laurel. She was so genuinely touched by her team mates loyalty!

I think Zach is kind of annoying. My feelings about Zach are best summed up using the old adage we Red Sox fans like to spout about any team who plays against the evil empire, The NY Yankees. Who do we want to win??....ANYONE BUT THE YANKEES. So too with Zach V. Taylor. ANYONE BUT TAYLOR!

Why no mention of Greg's (very) brief call home?? I would have been interested in an observation or two about those who spawned him.

Krizzatch Author Profile Page:

Not that it matters much, Doctor, but the Yellow team won the challenge and Green team came in second.

Guylan is totally a tranny.

What is it about those olive green hats they wear that make their heads look HUGE?

"I'm happy for Laurel. She was so genuinely touched by her team mates loyalty!"

But look at how manipulative Sophia did it... she said, "Ok, is there anyone here who would not vote for Laurel?" with Laurel standing right there. What is there to say to that? Sophia is my favorite, anyway.

goosegg1001:

First we announce that Taylor is remaining Green's leader.

hmmm maybe we dont get the same show. ok ill let that error slide because this recap was amazing! All the duck jokes were great. I really cant stand olivia. ugh.

Im excited for next week with taylor. I hope she makes me proud.

humperdinck:

Flintheart Glomgold. Unless you were thinking of Magica De Spell.

Mcsteeny:

Magica De Spell!!! Humperdink, you are my savior. I called everyone I knew to get that name and no one could tell me- so I had to inaccurately go with Scrooge McDuck. It's been killing me ever since, thank you!

Krizzatch: you're right, yellow won- I forgot Laurel had her order wrong the first time.

Gooseg: a typo of sorts on my part, of course. Clearly Laurel is green's leader.

Thanks everybody, hope you enjoy!

ebnoia:

Great recap!

I too was very disappointed in the lack of Jared in this episode. We need more Jared!! He is the best.

I did notice the boy trying to eat his food during the food fight. I almost peed my pants. That was great!!

My favorite caption...
"YES! Now I can buy all the tampons and boxer briefs I need!"
Who the hell is Guylan anyway??

sweetblondie:

My 14 yr old son turned to me while watching Guylan and he was all serious and awkward and said "Mom, ummmm, is that a boy or what?" with a truly confused look on his face.

But I liked Guylan (even though I have issues with those that were home schooled) and honestly I can't believe the ages of this "kids". I can't even imagine my son saying anything remotely as mature as these "kids".

Another excellent recap Doc!

Dawn:

I had no idea what sex Guylan was but I thought he/she/it was awesome for giving that leadership thing a shot just because the opportunity was there.

Mike and Anjay never won a decision against Taylor ever! I almost wish Taylor hadn't been dethroned just so we could see Guylan tell her off and let these kids eat something good for a change!

Beauty Queens neither cook nor eat food, but they do need to brush their teeth so you don't smell the bullemia breath.

lloyd dobbler:

Dr. McSteeny!!! Great recap!! So happy with the pageant queen being dethrones, SO UNHAPPY there was no jared!!! I alomost corrected you on the scrooge mcduck reference, but i see i was beat to it:) Heres to next week and a dethroned beauty queen turning to hardcore sprite drinking, and assault on town leadership!!!

fanofjared:

I missed Jared in this show. :-( But I have seen his youtube video and it seems like we will get to see a whole lot of him in the next couple of weeks... At least that is the way it looks because of who is on the council in the video. YEA. I can't wait to see what he has to say next week...

purplesoup:

Excellent recap.
I love reading your KN recaps, they make me laugh out loud every time.
I noticed that you did not mention two things that I thought for sure would be included:
-Michael's laugh (if you could call it a laugh) at that pro-Taylor vote
and
-Greg's erm... position while he comforted Leila. Looked to my friends and me like he was looking for a very special way of comforting her.
Anyway,
Can't wait til next week's recap!
