Like OMG! Just when I thought I was done for the day, MTV like totally gave us another episode of Laguna Beach! This time, it was all about Chase's band, Open Air Stereo. The kids like all totally went up to Hollywood to hear them sing, and then like Tessa totally made out with Derek again, and Breanna was like sitting right next to them, and Chase was like "This is a dream come true!" and Kelan was like "I might not go to school" and Derek was all "It's like Tommy Lee Goes To College!" and Rocky was like "I love you again Alex" and then Epic Records was like "We want to sign a terrible band!" It was like so exciting!

After last week's Spring Break episode followed by an exciting excursion at the Prom this week, we knew this season's sudden momentum had to come to an end. And who else could drain the fun out of an episode like Chase and his dumb band, Open Air Stereo -- or OAS, as I call them (and yes, I did notice that's sixty percent of OASIS). Yes, this latest episode was the inevitable band show -- the one where surprise, surprise a major record label would come calling, attracted to the MTV cameras like a moth to the flame. A moth with very, very bad musical taste.

This episode started off with Rocky expressing displeasure that she'd be missing out on Chase's latest concert, to be held in Hollywood's famed club, The Roxy. Particularly upsetting Raquel was the low number of Open Air Stereo concerts she'd attended in the past. "I've only been to two," she lamented, adding, "And they were both AWFUL." Okay, she didn't say that, but I'm sure I wasn't the only one hoping this latest OAS show wouldn't be a total suckfest again.

Anyway, we learned that a bunch of Laguna kids (minus Rocky) would be taking a bus up to Hollywood for the big concert, but who was Tessa traveling with? None other than... Jade? Yes, Jade. Those of you with eagle eyes may remember Jade as that other "ethnic" girl in Laguna. She made a brief cameo in the beginning of the season -- I believe at Tessa's birthday party -- where she surely dazzled everyone with her non-caucasion appearance. Nevertheless, this mysterious Jade (no relation to the ANTM contestant... or the Linda Fiorentino film) was certainly no Raquel/"Rocky." In fact, Tessa felt downright lost without her buddy. "I haven't been like somewhere without you!" she fretted, clearly establishing herself once again as the sidekick in this relationship. Poor Tessa. Nothing is more frightening than Master separation anxiety.

We then watched the opening credits, which were followed by the show's title: "Show Them What You've Got" -- which, in the case of Open Air Stereo, is probably just a lot of screaming and cacophony. Speaking of the band, we then found Chase and company practicing away in their rehearsal space. Needless to say, their "music" was slightly more sonorous than listening to a subway car braking in a station. Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and while OAS was not my cup of tea, the band's manager, Bobby, loved them -- especially the ending he just happened to hear as he walked in the room. He gushed on and on about the ending, saying that they just had to use it at the Roxy. Other things they could use: A MELODY.

We were only about three minutes into the episode, and already I knew the heady days of Spring Break and the prom were behind us. This was like a really, really bad version of Cheyenne. Anyway, Chase then confirmed with the managers, "We go on at like nine, yeah?" To which one of the managers replied, "Yeah, we're going on early, which means more kids will be able to come." Actually, it's more like The Roxy didn't want its teen experience to get in the way of its alcohol sales. Nevertheless, it all worked out perfectly for Chase, who explained, "Also, it's better for my voice." Wait, his career's just starting, and he's already have vocal problems? That's always a good sign. Maybe if his lyrics were anything beyond a long, bellowing scream, he wouldn't be so strained. Or maybe he should just be silent and make everyone happy.
