Why, NBC? Why?

Last night, 30 Rock premiered on NBC, and while the show may not have been quite as hilarious as I was hoping, it still showed promise. However, one thing that I just couldn't understand was why network brass had replaced Rachel Dratch as the star of the fictional Girlie Show with Jane Krakowski. The Ally McBeal alumna was not only dreadfully miscast, but she seemed to lack the quirky, beguiling zaniness that has turned Rachel Dratch into a scene-stealer in recent seasons on SNL. The rumor all summer has been that NBC executives wanted Krakowski in the role because she's prettier than Dratch, but honestly, she's really not that hot. If I had to choose between Krakowski's looks and Dratch's comedy, I'd choose the latter. What did you think about the show? Worth the hype? And should NBC have demoted Rachel Dratch?

I didn't care for this show enough to9 care who was cast first....I thought it sucked and don't plan on watching it again. It felt too much like I was watching SNL....and that show hasn't been funny in years (IMO)

This show is not only not funny (as a sitcom should be) it is unfunny. NBC has made the huge mistake of premeiring this program a fully three weeks after Studio 60. Now I know Studio 60 is not a comady but thats the problem, it smarter and funnier than 30 Rock. This show is a precious waist of television airspace. Even if you added a laugh track for the mentally challeged who need to be told or signalled as to when something is funny it still woulbn't work. Stick with The Office and My Name is Earl if you want to actually watch NBC sitcoms that are funny.

Rachel is so way better than Jane...and I like Jane.
Let's see -- show replacing good people...so this is like the show imitating itself? Or vice versa?

I actually really liked it! It's definitely the best new sitcom this year. I heard the second episode is a lot funnier though.

I heard that they replaced Rachel Dratch because they wanted Alec Baldwin's character to hit on Jane Krakowski's character. I guess there's gonna be a love interest there or something. Frankly, I don't mind Jane Krakowski. She made me laugh with the "lady rapist on C.S.I." line, and the line where she says "it's only weird because my sister peed in it". I hope they get Rachel Dratch a regular character on the show, which Tina said she would do. However, seeing Rachel Dratch in different characters every week could be hilarious.

Anyway, Tina Fey's got balls! She managed to make fun of GE and NBC at the same time, and those people probably didn't even realize were being made fun of. Also, I didn't even know that the oven they were talking about was real.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE Rachel Dratch. LOVELOVELOVE. Like, she's my fav SNL alum from the past decade. Yeah, I know, but I loved her.

B-side, I liked this show. I am a fan of Tina Fey, love her writing and always liked when Alec Baldwin hosted SNL. Thought the strip club scene was funny. I agree with you about Rachel Dratch. I give her alot of credit for being on the show after the obvious recast. I'll watch again.

I saw a screener of the original pilot (the one with Rachel Dratch as the star of the Girlie Show) earlier in the summer. It really clicked.

Watching the re-tooled version (to accommodate the recasting) was a letdown. It just didn't feel like it had the same fun timing. Maybe it was just because they had to cram so many reshot scenes in with the original scenes that made it awkward. Hopefully next week will work better.

I thought Rachel Dratch's part in the show was perfect for her and I did not see it as a demotion. She shines in whatever she does. I saw her as her usual quirky self.

I noticed "Smith" has been erased from the TV show list, and I would really like to comment on it, even though it has been canceled. I think a lot of people would like to comment on it; so I wish this site would have an area reserved for shows that have been canceled so we can discuss them.

i got to say that while the show wasn't the homerun i was hoping for, i did laugh a bit. even at the beginning where tina fey bought all the hot dogs. I thought that was hilarious. However, the pilot did feel retooled while watching it. And Tina Fey while a brilliant writer and fake news anchor, isn't the best actress in the world. i'm wondering when and if those limitations are going to come back to bite her in the ass. As for Rachel vs. Jane, I like them both, Rachel more so than Jane. I actually think the NEGATIVE press over replacing Rachel for not being bangable enough wasn't worth it. How funny would it have been if Alec Baldwin hit on Rachel's character much to the confusion of many of the other characters. Couldn't Rachel's homely appearance been played up? Just a thought...

You really have to sit back and marvel at the delusion of Tina Fey. Talk about a suck up and brown nose. And so eager. 30 Rock..wait..that's where SNL is taped..oh you!, how self referential, Tina. How clever. This show is about as exciting as Megan Mullally talk show. Alas, Rachel is probably the only person talented enough to make her crappy material funny. Shame the shafted her.
